"Now let's celebrate!" The king clapped his hands signaling the trumpets to start playing a softer tone.
At the same time waiters in black suits brought out trays full of champagne glasses that sparkled in the light.
Unfortunately what came next was a wave of nobles swiftly approaching us from all angles, Alexia and me were the only ones left by the time I blinked.
'Ella and Evelyn will be fine' I let out a soft sigh
Ella was used to such things and despite my elder sister's stupor I knew her filthy mouth was one glass of champagne from being unlocked. In truth I should probably be more worried that she didn't blow up on someone. The only person I was concerned about was Nessa, After all despite her trying to act like a gracefully princess I knew she was nothing but an innocent girl.
"You have to tell me all about your battle hero" The king shook me from my thoughts as his hand patted my shoulder gently.
"Yes hero I would love to hear the details as well" Yet before I could respond a haughty voice sounded out.
I gazed over to my right and saw a middle aged man with a face of indifference walking in our direction. His thick black hair was gelled straight back with a single strand falling into his face and a pair obsidian colored eyes held both arrogance and tranquility. The man's clothing was a simply black suit and yet I could tell the fabric was just as expensive as the other nobles around, If not more.
'The Grand Duke' It was easy to recognize the neatly dressed man who I had spoke to a few times over the years.
Competent would be the word I would use to describe the Grand Duke. I didn't know a lot about him but what I didn't know was that he truly cared about the kingdom, He didn't hesitate to march into battle against whoever threatened the kingdom's prosperity.
"Of course if I'm not intruding" He came to a stop to my side while swirling around the champagne in his half empty glass.
"Kaden!" The king seemed pleased with his arrival and patted his shoulder a little more roughly than he did with me.
"…Your majesty" Kaden glanced down at his shoulder while respectfully bowing putting his hand to his chest.
"Duchess bower" He looked toward Alexia and I could swear his voice turned slightly colder.
"Grand Duke" Alexis tilted her head shallowly as I saw her eyes fill with a rare chill that made me f confused.
'Do they have a bad relationship?' I wondered in my head but was quickly given an answer as the grand Duke spoke.
"After so many banquets over the decades you've finally worn a dress worthy of your beauty" I frowned seeing Kaden's eyes trail across Alexia's overflowing bosom of flesh.
"Watch your tongue Grand Duke" Alexia's voice was cold as she wore an expression that could make any man tremble.
"Lighten up Alexia" Yet the Grand Duke didn't seem bothered as he met her gaze head on not backing down an inch.
"…." Alexia didn't respond before the King interrupted with an awkward cough.
"So hero tell me about the demon" The old man wrapped his arm around my back and led me away as if trying to escape.
Kaden matched his stride standing to the kings side while Alexia followed next to me with her muscular legs flexing with each step. I narrowed my eyes when I noticed the grand dukes gaze landing on them with a glint in his eye, Although it quickly disappeared almost as if it wasn't there in the first place.
"I know how hot it is in the south so the battle must…" The king already started to talk and I heard his words mixing together filtering out my ear.
'Ha…' I could only sigh in my head already wondering when I could leave the banquet already.
*******
it took approximately half an hour to go over the details with the king. I'm pretty sure I could have told it in a few minutes yet the old man seemed to want to know every detail to the last tea. I had even told him what I had for breakfast that day to which he applauded my choice of food, It was at that time did I have to hold back the urge run away.
"The demon king is coming…" The king repeated the words spoken by the demon with a dark voice as the mood around us turned gloomy
'How is it far she got to escape' I grumbled glancing to my side where Alexia had disappeared saying she had business to attend to.
Even the Grand Duke left as soon as the king interrupted my words for the fifth time. Leaving only me and the old man who made me want to jump off a mountain, I felt as if I was a few seconds from falling asleep.
"Thankfully the goddess has blessed us with you hero" The king rested his hands together making my eye twitch at the heavy statement he said with a straight face.
"Now that I think about it" The old man quickly changed the subject as I gazed around the bustling room.
"I heard you came in with little Aria" My body turned stiff when I heard his words and I clenched the glass in my hand
