"Is everything settled?"
Chen Yanyan walked over, passing Lin Feng, and began tidying up the bedsheets and blankets in the bedroom. Lin Feng noticed she had replaced the entire set with new ones, now stained with traces of blood.
This was far more intense than the video they had filmed before.
It was clear that Jiang Yuner's presence in the camper's bed was not accidental, but rather part of Chen Yanyan's deliberate arrangement.
As Chen Yanyan looked back to inquire, Lin Feng nodded:
"Yes, it's done. I've formed a mental link with her. As long as my mental strength is much higher than hers, she'll be subtly influenced by me, showing strong dependency, which won't diminish with distance, but may even deepen..."
"Additionally, the camper absorbed part of Jiang Yuner's scattered mental energy during its fusion, granting it a mental function."
"I'll call it a bio-radar."
"By consuming some energy, it can detect mid to late-stage Red Beetles within a five-kilometer radius, including all first-tier Black Spinal Bugs."
"Now, when we go out on missions, we won't have to worry about being surrounded by a Black Spinal Bug army."
Chen Yanyan flashed a pleased smile, clearly not expecting such a benefit. She closed her eyes, activating her Mechanical Pioneer ability to feel the changes.
While sensing the camper's transformation, she said:
"This time, the camper's exterior hasn't changed much, but the armor has thickened by half. The average armor thickness is now 50mm, which ordinary Black Spinal Bugs can't penetrate. Only late first-tier Giant Black Spinal Bugs can tear through the side armor with sustained attacks."
"The toughest front has 70mm armor, which even late first-tier Black Spinal Bugs can't budge."
Lin Feng nodded. The Lv14 armored vehicle was no longer just a camper; its defense had significantly improved, evident in Chen Yanyan's perception.
He opened the door and stepped outside.
Admiring his first armored vehicle, its black iron armor was solid, providing a strong sense of security. It looked like an oversized black rhino, ready to charge fearlessly down the road.
Circling around, he arrived at the rear.
Turning the latch, he opened the double doors to find the internal space more than doubled. The filming equipment left by the crew was still inside.
Lin Feng retrieved them.
These needed to be returned to Jiang Yuner.
With editing, the footage could become a promotional video. They only needed a few dozen seconds of footage, and they had filmed at least half an hour, so there were no worries about the final cut.
As Lin Feng prepared to set off with the equipment, Chen Yanyan emerged from the camper, carrying a bag with the sheets and blankets:
"Let's go together."
Seeing her earnest expression, Lin Feng nodded thoughtfully.
No longer needing coercive measures, giving this to Jiang Yuner would strengthen her reliance on Lin Feng.
The two walked side by side to the luxury camper not far from the repair shop and knocked on the door.
Jiang Yuner, now dressed in her clothes, opened the door warmly upon seeing Lin Feng, but stopped mid-sentence when she noticed another woman—Chen Yanyan, whom she least wanted to see.
Yet Chen Yanyan smiled, handing over the bag:
"I thought this might be meaningful to you, Miss Jiang, so I brought it over."
Jiang Yuner awkwardly accepted the bag, stunned by its contents.
"Let's exchange contacts. We might have future collaborations," Chen Yanyan said, taking out her phone.
Lin Feng had placed the filming equipment in the camper's trunk, and as the two women exchanged contacts, he approached to say goodbye.
"The filming mission ended safely. Let's meet again when there's a chance."
Jiang Yuner looked a bit down but quickly composed herself with a smile:
"Sure, come to the capital when you're free, and I'll host you."
With that, she waved them off.
They weren't on the same path, and Lin Feng couldn't leave the front line for her. Watching Lin Feng and Chen Yanyan walk away, chatting happily, Jiang Yuner felt a pang of jealousy.
Soon after, her phone rang—it was Lin Feng's friend request.
Accepting it, she received a comforting message from him, reassuring her to return and develop in the rear, promising to visit after the Wu City battle.
Jiang Yuner set aside her disappointment, focusing on work. She contacted her agency to send a plane for her departure and informed the publicity team to edit the footage for the military client.
After arranging these, she contacted Qin Hu to send protection for her departure from the service area to Jincheng Airport.
...
Elsewhere, Lin Feng packed his gear and saw Chen Yanyan scrolling through his phone, chatting with Jiang Yuner. He glimpsed the messages, smirking:
"You women really know each other well, soothing her in just a few words."
Chen Yanyan rolled her eyes:
"When do we leave? Han Yuxin already has Shen Jie and his team waiting on the way to the front."
Lin Feng nodded:
"Let's go now. Before the battle, we need to train a capable group of awakeners under me."
Chen Yanyan put away the phone, buckled up, and drove out of the repair shop, leaving the service area once more for the front line.
En route, they soon met Shen Jie and his team parked in the emergency lane.
Chen Yanyan slowed down, honking for the three patrol cars to follow.
Under Han Yuxin's support, they had upgraded their gear—uniform black outfits, rifles, and patrol vehicles from the security bureau.
Fuel consumption wasn't a concern now.
Capturing live Red Beetles for Han Yuxin to sell provided enough income to live with dignity.
Though the risks remained high.
Soon, the four vehicles stopped at the insect expansion line. The sight of the familiar, dashing figure in black-and-red armor stepping off the vehicle reassured Shen Jie and his team.
Although Shen Jie had suspected that their employer might be Mr. Lin, Han Yuxin had hinted at it.
Seeing this confirmed, they felt a rush of excitement.
Following Mr. Lin was their original goal when they came to the service area.
Now, it was finally realized.
But achieving this goal required passing one last test.
The purpose of their outing today:
To kill Black Spinal Bugs and complete their superpower awakening.
Lin Feng surveyed the eight standing by the cars. Under Shen Jie's leadership, all had reached nine enhancements, just shy of awakening.
As they stood in a line, armed and solemn, Lin Feng nodded in approval:
"This test is simple."
"Complete it, and you can follow me on missions at the front. Your awakening speed will increase until you become formidable warriors."
He pointed to the barren land behind them:
"That's the insect heartland. Black Spinal Bugs no longer act alone but in groups of at least twenty."
"Ninth-level enhancers need more than courage and bravery to handle so many; they need exceptional intelligence."
"Now, who will go first..."
"To lure them out!"
