Capítulo 63: Chapter 63: Instant KO against Yanma

"Go, Charmeleon!"

Although everyone knew it was Kalia's Pokemon, at this moment, to the spectators, the Charmeleon belonged to Julian.

Lian reached his starting position and glanced around at the other participating Pokemon, noticing Scyther among them.

With its tall green body standing on the grass, Scyther wielded two large scythe-like arms as its formidable weapons, perfectly suited for moves like Slash and Fury Cutter.

Behind Scyther were thin, small wings constantly vibrating. In reality, Scythers rarely use these wings for sustained flight; they typically rely on short leaps instead.

Adjacent to Scyther stood Yanma, surprising Lian by recognizing it as the same Yanma from Kalia's earlier challenge against the blue-capped Trainer.

Fortunately, before facing Yanma, Lian hadn't yet mastered Hidden Power, so he could now utilize it against Yanma effectively.

However, Lian couldn't unleash Hidden Power right away. Several Trainers present frequently visited the Pokemon Center, so he needed to choose the right moment.

"The second group's race is about to begin. Let's countdown - 10, 9...3, 2, 1!"

"Begin!"

With the referee's command, the competition officially started. Lian instantly surged forward with explosive speed. Unlike the first round where he needed to conceal his true capabilities, this time there was no need for restraint; he could unleash his full potential.

Tina, riding her Staraptor, caught up to the five Pokémon and transmitted live footage to the big screen. She announced, "Now we're witnessing the second round of the Extreme Speed Conference, Group Two race. Initially, I anticipated Scyther would maintain the lead, but it seems I was mistaken. Currently, the fastest is actually Charmeleon!"

"As you can see, although Charmeleon appears to be running at a similar pace as Scyther, it's slightly quicker. The Yanma behind them isn't faring poorly either, closely trailing both Charmeleon and Scyther."

"Everyone knows that Yanma has the Ability 'Acceleration'; given enough time, it will become the swiftest Pokemon in this group."

As Lian sprinted at full throttle, after maintaining top speed for some time, he glanced sideways and noticed the Scyther not too far away, their speeds nearly matching.

This time, Lian had no room for luck; Scyther was undoubtedly around Level 25. It could be due to specialized training by its Trainer or innate talent, but either way, it wouldn't deviate much from that level.

"To secure a safe spot for advancement, I must eliminate Scyther. Even if I don't initiate an attack, Scyther will surely come after me."

Lian pondered, then glanced back at Yanma trailing behind him. Although currently at a distance, once its Acceleration Ability activates, it would likely overtake him swiftly.

The true strength of the Acceleration Ability lies here: as per game mechanics, each acceleration boosts speed by 1.5 times, easily surpassing a base speed ability value of six hundred.

Therefore, Lian needed to either defeat Yanma before it accelerates or immediately when it's about to overtake him. Missing this opportunity would leave him unable to catch up, watching Yanma's tail vanish ahead.

Deciding not to focus on Scyther just yet, given their similar speeds, Lian prepared to tackle Yanma first.

Looking up, he noticed commentator Tina consistently directing her camera towards his section, as all five Pokemon were within close proximity, fitting perfectly on the large screen display.

"I won't use Hidden Power (Rock); instead, I'll instantly take down Yanma with Fire Fang." After some thought, Lian decided against using Hidden Power due to potential risks.

Fire Fang is a move any Charmeleon can learn, posing no significant concerns. Moreover, Lian felt confident that Fire Fang could swiftly defeat Yanma.

Although his attack ability value might not be high, Fire Fang's power was substantial. Combined with double type effectiveness, considering Yanma's defense base stat of just over forty, it likely wouldn't withstand Fire Fang.

Scyther fluttered its wings, soaring and diving rapidly, leaving behind only blurred afterimages due to its incredible speed.

Scyther had noticed the distant Charmeleon but, given the distance and its disdain for Charmeleon's aura, chose not to engage proactively for the moment.

As Yanma picked up pace, the flapping of its wings accelerated noticeably, indicating its first burst of speed was imminent.

"Yanma is about to surge ahead. How will the other Pokemon respond?" Commentator Tina observed this as well, directing the camera focus towards Yanma.

Yanma's wing speed continued to accelerate, visibly closing the gap between itself and Charmeleon with each passing moment.

The Acceleration Ability has always been highly sought after in Pokemon battles, especially advantageous in the Extreme Speed Conference. Ninjask, relying on this ability, became the fastest Pokemon in the competition.

Imagine a Pokémon already exceptionally swift, continuously becoming even swifter during a race. How could others compete against it? It was simply unbeatable!

While Yanma couldn't match Ninjask, once it surpasses its opponents, there would be little chance but to watch it fade into the distance.

Lian had his Fire Fang attack ready, vigilantly watching Yanma. As soon as it caught up, he planned to strike swiftly for an instant kill.

With Yanma's impressive Stamina base stat, defeating it should yield a decent combat rating score, likely around six or seven hundred Combat Points. Although not as lucrative as flawlessly beating Scyther, Lian couldn't guarantee a damage-free victory against the Scyther.

Yanma's speed continued to increase; by Lian's estimation, its current speed ability value had surpassed 600, rapidly closing in on them.

"Yanma is catching up fast," Julian observed anxiously on the big screen, knowing that if Yanma overtakes them, their chances of advancing to the second round would diminish.

"Don't worry, Charmeleon will take action," Kalia said calmly, watching the race unfold. In reality, even without Charmeleon attacking Yanma, Scyther would surely strike first. It's instinctual; no Pokemon willingly allows itself to be surpassed, and Trainers typically give preemptive orders before the race begins.

"Yanma is about to overtake both Charmeleon and Scyther. What actions will they take? Will Yanma successfully pass them?" Commentator Tina recognized this critical moment; if Yanma manages to smoothly surpass, Charmeleon and Scyther would lose any chance of advancement.

Lian caught sight of Yanma out of the corner of his eye, but it hadn't quite closed the gap yet. He knew he had to wait until Yanma was close enough before making his move; otherwise, using Fire Fang behind him could inadvertently allow Scyther to gain more distance.

Mentally counting down the time as Yanma approached, Lian sprang into action when he reached five.

Just as Yanma surpassed Lian, he swiftly launched his attack, lunging towards it with flames erupting from his mouth. The fiery blaze enveloped his teeth, radiating intense heat.

Yanma immediately sensed danger and tried to fly upwards, avoiding Charmeleon's Fire Fang, but it was too late. Lian leaped, pinned down Yanma with his claws, and clamped down fiercely with his jaws.

Yanma's wings instantly turned charred black, losing its ability to maintain flight. Caught by Lian, it desperately struggled, but to no avail.

The power of fire quickly penetrated Yanma, causing immense pain from the scorching flames. Being inherently fearful of fire, Yanma experienced extreme discomfort, and its resistance gradually weakened.

"Charmeleon has unleashed Fire Fang, biting onto Yanma. Yanma is now in grave danger; can it escape from Charmeleon?" Tina continued her commentary.

"Yanma has ceased resisting. It seems Yanma ultimately couldn't outpace both Pokemon. Yanma has lost its combat capability; medical staff can proceed."

Lian released his grip; Yanma sustained severe injuries and fell to the ground, virtually unable to continue battling.

Immediately, Lian surged forward at top speed to catch up with Scyther. The brief delay allowed Scyther to surpass him.
