Capítulo 87: Chapter 87: The Cancer Clan, Rupert's Tears

No wonder SC-19 had such a massive debris disk.

The destruction of a civilization was a shocking event, and within a day of receiving the news, the entire fleet fell silent. Every being in the Galactic Federation felt a sense of heaviness.

The Galactic Federation had always promoted the concept of the Imagination Resource Theory, advocating that any being who encounters a weaker civilization must show sufficient kindness and guide them to integrate into the Federation.

This incident, however, was so far removed from the Federation's ideals that it created a profound psychological gap.

It was as if, in the 21st century, the world had learned that a country had been permanently erased from the map.

And would the Galactic Federation be the next to face a similar fate?

This sense of heaviness was a good thing; it would motivate some beings.

"Ella, even if the battleships were destroyed, some life forms might have been pushed into space during the explosion. The cold temperature of space would have frozen them, so have all the fighters search for the remains of this civilization's intelligent beings."

Ella took action immediately, though it wasn't an easy task. Searching for tiny corpses in an entire star system was more challenging than finding a needle in a haystack.

The search took another two years.

Standing in the massive paper library aboard the Tian Gong, which was 30 meters high and covered an area of over 20,000 square meters, Yan Xia was studying a book titled "Elementary Algebra."

The library had a giant floor-to-ceiling window, 30 meters high and 50 meters wide.

Outside was a small rainforest ecosystem, where a 30-meter-long Oriental Dragon (limbless version) rested, exhaling clouds of white smoke from its nostrils, giving it an otherworldly appearance. Yan Xia called it the Mist Dragon, one of his beloved pets.

At that moment, the floor of the library began to sink, and the walls started to rotate. Yan Xia found himself transported to a research lab.

In the lab, a 2-meter-wide water sphere, suspended in mid-air by electromagnetic forces, contained a giant pink tumor, resembling a bacterium magnified countless times.

Yan Xia put down his book and stared at the creature in surprise.

"Is this the being from that star system?"

"It doesn't seem to have flexible limbs. How could it create such intricate machinery?"

Yan Xia had learned about the discovery of life forms a week ago, but they needed to be transported back, so he waited in the library.

"Most of their genes have been damaged by cosmic radiation, so we can't determine their true nature."

"However, we can confirm that their bodies were not a result of natural evolution but rather a creation."

This was easy to analyze.

Naturally evolved beings would have adaptations to their environment, and their body structures would reflect their position in the ecosystem—whether they were defensive, camouflaged, predatory, parasitic, or something else.

However, this being had no such specialized organs.

Its body structure was too fragile, lacking any adaptations for survival.

"It's likely that this civilization's original bodies were not like this, but as their technology advanced, they abandoned their natural bodies and transformed into these created ones."

"Although we can't reconstruct their genes, we can estimate that they died at around 230 years old, and their short lifespan might be one reason they abandoned their original bodies."

"Moreover, upon studying their spaceship wreckage, we found that they had no living quarters, only a 1-meter-wide cockpit. The whip-like structures on their bodies seem to be their nerves, capable of connecting to equipment and transmitting information."

This was a unique civilization that had transcended their physical bodies.

"And here's an interesting point—I found a healed wound on its body and observed its cell division process. Based on the cell morphology, their division speed is 500 times faster than cancer cells."

Yan Xia understood that this meant they had incredible regenerative abilities, allowing them to maintain their fragile appearance.

"Let's call them the Cancer Clan for now."

"This clan had reached Level 1 civilization but was destroyed. There must be a reason."

"Ella, can you deduce their language type from the clues? There should be some data in the wreckage. Analyze it and see what we can find."

Communication among advanced civilizations might be encrypted and contain complex information. Additionally, the direct transmission of signals through neurons made language decryption even more challenging.

Ella could use biotechnology to create a simulated clone of the being, which, although genetically different, would have a similar body structure, allowing them to determine the method of communication. By sending electrical signals through the clone's neurons and analyzing the feedback, they could decipher the language.

This research method was much faster than relying solely on computational power or brute force.

"Sure, no problem."

"Just give me some time."

This 'some time' turned out to be seven months.

Even as an attachment to Ella, the Tian Gong was equipped with the most advanced computing system in the Galactic Federation, yet it still took this long, indicating the complexity of the task.

After numerous confirmations, Ella generated a language sample of the Cancer Clan, a thick volume equivalent to three copies of the Xinhua Dictionary.

Mental language was simpler to use than spoken or written language, but converting it into text was far more complicated. Even the slightest difference in emotional nuances could result in vastly different information.

Especially since this mental language also carried visual images.

Yan Xia glanced at the table of contents and set it aside, asking, "So, have you extracted any useful information?"

Ella shook her head.

"There is information from another civilization, but the Cancer Clan doesn't know who their enemy was."

"When the other civilization discovered them, they launched an attack without any communication. Within just ten years, the Cancer Clan was destroyed, and they never even saw what their enemy looked like."

"The only thing we've found related to the war is a technology they were developing."

Ella waved her hand, and a screen appeared, displaying a 3D rotating image.

The shape...

Yan Xia thought for a moment before recalling the name of this object.

"Rupert's Tears?"

When molten glass naturally drips into cold water, it forms teardrop-shaped structures with extremely hard heads that even bullets can't shatter. However, the tails can be easily crushed with a gentle squeeze.

"Yes, Rupert's Tears."

"But these aren't glass-made Rupert's Tears; they're electromagnetic Rupert's Tears."

"This civilization could use this technology to increase the strength of one end of the electromagnetic field by 100,000 times. Although this technology was still in its early stages in their civilization, it might have bought them a few years against their enemy."

This was a valuable discovery.

Yan Xia was already envisioning the potential applications of this technology.

Furthermore, if electromagnetic fields could create Rupert's Tears, could they also create other objects?

Perhaps even at a more microscopic level.
