I sit in the backseat of Damien's car as Michael drives, watching the familiar cityscape blur past the windows. My mind is racing, running through everything that happened the other night; the fear, the rage, the helplessness. 

I swallow, gripping my hands tightly as I focus on the reason I'm here—I need to talk to Lea. She's the one person who knows me inside and out, and right now, I need that. I need her.

When we pull up outside her apartment, Michael gives me a silent nod, his eyes scanning the area. I know Damien told him to look after me, and though I still can't quite wrap my mind around needing protection, I can't deny the comfort his presence brings.

"Thank you, Michael," I say, giving him a small smile. He nods again, a hint of softness in his otherwise stoic expression. With a final glance at the street, I head up to Lea's apartment.
