I must have said the words out loud because all of a sudden, there was silence around me.
"Mmm, jumping clown," I repeated, making my voice sound soft and sleepy.
"So cute," sighed Max, as he nuzzled my forehead with his nose. "Talkin' in 'er sleep like that. Now, Niblet, no dreamin' of clowns. Yous dream of your Max, ye 'ear me?"
Letting out a soft moan, I called out Max's name, like he managed to change my dreams. However, his name let me picture exactly what he was seeing, and I went with it. Anything was better than being in my head at the moment.
The creature deep inside me was awake at the moment and looking for a way out. Refusing to even acknowledge its existence, I focused on what was going on around me.
