"There is a new development, Mr. Asher Miller wants you back. Can you head back to the office for further instructions?," the P.A asked.
Sally could not believe what had just happened.
She has her job back!
"Oh my God! Thank you so much. I will be on my way," she said joyfully.
The call ended. And she sprang up with a sense of urgency and hurried out after paying for the coffee.
She hailed a cab and jumped in. After giving out directions, the driver drove off.
She couldn't contain the feeling of joy that burbled inside her.
As they got to the company, she paid and got out. The P.A stood up immediately she saw Sally.
"Sally, I am glad you got your job back. The CEO has informed me to fill you in about your job here. And do not forget that punctuality is the soul of business."
I nodded in agreement. "Yes, thank you so much. Can I start now?"
The P.A smiled. "I will give you some files to go through. It has to do with our work policy and what is expected of you. As his secretary, you're to prepare his appointment and inform ahead."
I felt like screaming for joy, how I wish I could see the CEO and show my appreciation.
"I understand perfectly."
After working and getting acquainted with the other workers, the day came to an end. She didn't even get a chance to see the CEO.
He had been busy all day.
Sally wondered if he wouldn't get tired. He was such a workaholic.
She grabbed her bag, and some of the employees were set to leave.
She bade the P.A goodbye and left.
At home that evening she was in her room going through her itinerary for tomorrow. Luke went to see a friend.
And May was yet to get back. She couldn't wait to break the good news to her.
Her door opened and May got in smiling. "What happened? I was trying to reach on the phone."
May sat on the bed close to Sally who looked up from what she was doing.
Her eyes twinkled. "I want you to guess."
May furrowed her brows. "Come on, tell me what it is. Don't keep me in suspense."
"I got the job," Sally squealed.
May managed a smile." I thought you'd lose it."
Sally gazed at her in surprise. "Why did you say that? You should be happy I got the job."
"Don't get me wrong. I am happy. I only said that because you were late for the first day. That was why I called to know how it went. I am glad you got it."
Sally heaved a sigh of relief. And hugged May happily, who pulled away.
Sally felt like something was not alright with how rigid May was towards her. But she shrugged it off.
Things were starting to fall into place for her. It's been three months since she got her job. Luke would be going to college in a month's time.
On a Friday night while she was at home having a nice time with her brother.
"Sis, I haven't seen May today. Where is she?," Luke asked.
"You're right, I.haven't seen her all day. She will be back soon. If I don't see her, I'd have to give her a call."
Suddenly, the door opened. Two policemen walked in.
One of the men flashed his badge towards Sally and Luke." I am detective Sanders and here with me is detective Jones. We were reliably informed that your brother here is involved in the use of illegal substances."
I staggered back in shock as I looked at my brother whose face paled in surprise.
"No !! That's not true!, Luke lashed out.
I could see a vein ticking on his forehead. It was a moment of shock.
"That's not possible. You're wrong with your findings. My brother is not in possession of illegal drug substance. You have no evidence," I yelled.
"And what if I show them evidence," May said as she made an unexpected entrance, her heels clicked on the tiled floor.
Sally gasped. "May?"
May flashed Sally a malicious smile. "Surprised huh? No you shouldn't be. I am just being a patriotic citizen. The last thing I want is to be under the same roof with a criminal."
"T That's not true," Sally stuttered.
May walked slowly towards Sally with a smirk on her face. "Watch as everything unfolds. You're in for one hell of a ride."
"We also have a search warrant," detective Jones said as he passed a piece of paper to me.
No this can't be happening.
Quickly, they swung into action as they turned everywhere upside down, searching.
It was a turbulent moment. Luke was shivering at what waa going on. Sally hugged her brother.
"Calm down Luke. I know you're innocent. We will get past this," Sally reassured her brother.
"You should search the entire house. Including his room. I am damn sure that there is something in there," May spat.
Sally was aghast.
After searching my room and May's, the detectives moved to Luke's room. One of the detectives searched through Luke's wardrobe.
He found a black cellophane bag and he opened it.He saw a whitish powdery substance.
Sally moved closer. She was stunned at what she saw.
"Waow, look what we have here," the detective sniffed and beckoned to the other detective who drew closer.
"Luke, you're under arrest for the possession of illegal drug substance."
Before Sally's eyes, her brother was arrested and hauled into the car they came with.
May stuffed her things in a bag. Sally burst into May's room.
"How could you treat me this way? I trusted you but you betrayed me," Sally fired.
May turned towards her and scoffed. "You deserve all that and more. I hate you."
Sally's eyes widened in shock. "What have I done to deserve this?"
"This is only the beginning, Sally."
