When I came to, my world was a haze of pain and confusion. My head pounded, I couldn't move without feeling pain and every breath felt like it took more effort than it should. As my vision cleared, I saw Ethan standing over me, his eyes cold and calculating. He didn't say a word as he picked up a large plank of wood, his movements slow and deliberate. There was no hesitation as he swung it with brutal force.

Instinct kicked in, and I tried to shield myself, but the plank hit me squarely, the impact sending me reeling. I gasped for breath, clutching my arm in pain, but that was nothing compared to the horror that followed. I looked down and saw the dirty nail in the plank had pierced my hand, the rusty metal splintering through my flesh. My breath came in ragged gasps as I stared at the wound.
