Chapter 121

After saying goodbye to the clan head and Fugaku, he returned home.

Haneda rummaged through his belongings, looking for anything valuable or meaningful.

After working all afternoon, all he found was a pile of gold and several boxes of cash—nothing else.

These were the remnants of his parents' inheritance and loot from the Land of Waves.

"What gift should I give?" Haneda wondered to himself as he sat on the floor.

Noticing that the room was dim, he looked outside and saw that the sun was setting.

Knock, knock, knock…

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, accompanied by a familiar voice.

"Haneda, how about we go out for dinner tonight?"

From the sound of it, it was Obito at the door.

Haneda walked over, opened the door, and saw Obito leaning against the doorframe with a grin.

"Dumb Kakashi and that bowl-cut guy will be there too. They said it's to celebrate becoming Chunin, and they sent me to invite you."

"Oh, and Minato-sensei, Kushina, and Uncle Sakumo will be there too."

"Hurry up, Haneda."

Obito extended his hand, grabbed the still-unresponsive Haneda, and dragged him outside.

Seeing this, Haneda quickly asked, "Where's the gathering, Obito?"

"It's at Training Ground 3, an outdoor feast, and we're going to grill some meat together," Obito replied.

They passed through Konoha's bustling streets, taking a detour around the Uchiha compound to reach Training Ground 3.

They took this detour at Haneda's insistence, to avoid running into any elderly relatives.

When they arrived, several people were already gathered at Training Ground 3.

Kakashi and Sakumo were early. Noticing Haneda and Obito approaching, they greeted them with smiles.

As Haneda and Obito arrived, Kakashi waved and said, "Haneda, you're early today."

"Wow, the loser didn't come late for once."

"Shut up, dumb Kakashi! I, Uchiha Obito, am always on time!" Obito said through gritted teeth.

Seeing the two starting to bicker again, Haneda quickly changed the topic.

"How's the injury from the afternoon, Kakashi?"

"It was just from the aftermath of the fight. Resting all afternoon has helped quite a bit."

"You know, Haneda, Minato-sensei teleported me away with the Flying Thunder God Technique at that moment," Kakashi explained.

"I see..."

Haneda sat down next to Kakashi, resting a hand on his shoulder with a smile.

"Congratulations on becoming a Chunin, Kakashi."

"Same to you."

Since Minato and the others hadn't arrived yet, there was nothing much to do at Training Ground 3.

Haneda looked up at the rising moon, once again pondering the wedding gift for Brother Fugaku.

He'd known Fugaku for nearly six years now.

In the fields of genjutsu and fire release, almost everything he knew was taught by Fugaku.

Haneda felt that his relationship with Fugaku was unique—somewhat like a teacher, yet also like an older brother.

This special bond left Haneda unsure of what gift to give.

Giving cash or gold seemed too plain. For the clan head, it might be fine, but for Brother Fugaku, it felt insincere.

Flowers or jewelry could work as a thoughtful gesture, but he wasn't sure what to choose.

After all, it was hard to expect someone who'd been trained as a ninja for six or seven years to know about such things.

Noticing Haneda was lost in thought while looking at the moon, Kakashi turned to him.

He asked softly, "Are you worried about something, Haneda?"

When Kakashi spoke, Haneda didn't immediately react.

After a second, he replied, "Were you asking what I was thinking, Kakashi?"

Kakashi nodded and said, "I can always tell when you're troubled, just by the way you look at something."

Sitting to Haneda's left, Obito asked curiously, "What's going on, Haneda? If you need anything, I, Uchiha Obito, am here to help first!"

Even Sakumo, who had been silent, spoke up.

"If it's something hard to share, you don't have to. Everyone has their own worries."

For Brother Fugaku and Sister Mikoto's wedding, Haneda didn't feel the need to hide it.

Looking at the enthusiastic Obito and the cool but caring Kakashi, he said,

"I'm thinking about a friend, someone who's kind of like a big brother to me."

"He's getting married soon, and I don't know what gift to give."

"Ah? It wouldn't be Fugaku, would it?!"

Obito immediately thought of Fugaku, as Fugaku was the only one in the Uchiha compound who was close to both himself and Haneda.

Despite Haneda being close with him, Obito wasn't very familiar with Fugaku.

Occasionally, they'd greet each other at Haneda's house, but that was it.

This lack of familiarity left Obito uncertain of what to give.

Kakashi, however, quickly suggested,

"How about a book, Haneda?"

"There's a popular one called *Make-Out Paradise* I heard about..."

"Ahem… Kakashi, where did you hear about that book?" Sakumo interjected, cutting him off.

Kakashi looked curiously at Sakumo. "What's special about it, Father?"

"You're too young to read or even ask about it, understand, Kakashi?" Sakumo said, his face reddening slightly.

He knew well enough what *Make-Out Paradise* was.

When it was unpublished, Jiraiya had gifted him a collector's edition.

It was still by his bedside, a companion for lonely times.

In short, it wasn't a book for minors—and even for adults, it needed moderation.

Dropping the subject, Kakashi suggested instead,

"How about *The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Ninja*? It's another work by Jiraiya and said to be very meaningful."

"The *Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Ninja*?"

Haneda knew this book, with the protagonist named Naruto.

Years from now, Naruto would use this book to talk Nagato down, so it really was meaningful.

Obito then chimed in, objecting,

"Why a book? Do you even read, Haneda?"

"If you ask me, it's better to give flowers—roses, how romantic!"

"It'd be perfect to give them under a cherry blossom tree!"

At this, Kakashi scoffed and retorted,

"Only a failure like you would ignore knowledge."

"And roses, especially red ones, are for lovers, you ignorant dropout."

Offended, Obito jumped up and pointed at Kakashi.

"Shut up, dumb Kakashi!"

"Enough, you two! Are you going to bicker all night?" Haneda said helplessly.

"You shut up too, jerk Haneda!"

"I..." Haneda wisely shut his mouth, debating whether to choose a book or flowers.

In the distance, Minato and Kushina arrived together.

Hearing Obito's explanation of roses' meaning at weddings, Minato smiled and said,

"Are you discussing wedding gifts?"

"Yeah, Minato-sensei, Haneda's trying to decide on a suitable gift," Obito said.

When she heard Haneda was planning a gift, Kushina thought of her friend Mikoto's wedding to Fugaku at the end of the month, and she smiled.

"You're preparing a gift too, Haneda?"

"Still considering it. I'm torn between a book and flowers," Haneda replied.

Minato smiled and suggested,

"Just choose something that you or they would enjoy; it's the thought that counts."

"Minato's right. I plan to give Mikoto a nice mirror—she loves beautiful things," Kushina agreed, laughing.
