Capítulo 2: 002 ~ Runaway bride

"What are you doing? Let's go before they get up." Sydney charged her sister impatiently.

"Do you want to die here?" Seeing that her sister was reluctant to go with her, she was forced to agree with her request.

"It's because of him, right?" Her eyes were sad but Esma only smiled. The alpha's men were already getting, indicating it was time for her to go.

"I'll find you, big sister." Glancing once more at her sister and giving her a reassuring smile, Sydney ran. She didn't know where she was running to but she just ran.

By the time everybody was able to overcome the pain and stand up, Sydney was long gone. Same as Esma.

"I'm very sorry, beta Zane. We'll find her no matter what." Brook reassured him but Zane only scoffed. He was only bothered about how upset his alpha would feel about the news. He needed a bride as soon as possible but there she was, running away from her fate and making them have delays.

He pulled out his phone and made a call to his alpha.

"Alpha ---"

"She's interesting." The alpha's voice was cold, causing chills to spread throughout Zane's body.

"We'll find her as soon as possible," Zane said reassuringly, as though he knew where he would start from. He was given a deadline to return with the bride and he knew what was in for him if he didn't meet up with the alpha's demand.

"Don't worry, Zane. I'll find her myself." Before Zane could reply, the line went dead.

'What on earth is this man up to again?' He questioned as he stared at the sky.

"Who is this girl and why does she have so much power?" He asked Brook but even he seemed clueless about the whole situation. It was surprising how a small girl could bring down more than 10 men at once. Not that she even lifted a finger. Such an embarrassing feat.

Alpha Brook was devastated by the result of the day. It was not what he had planned. He wanted the men out of the pack as soon as possible to avoid long dramas. With his left hand on his waist, he made a call.

"I want all men searching every hook and cranny for her. She must be---"

"Leave the search to my alpha. He will bring back this member of yours and we will be out of your hair for good." Zane interrupted him.

"I know every part of my pack and your alpha doesn't. I know where to start."

"I said, my alpha will bring her back. Or are you scared he would hurt her? That's his bride for goodness sake."

"Let's retreat for now." He yelled at the men. Reluctantly, Brook obeyed.

'They could do whatever they want with her for all I care. I just want my money in and them out.' He sneered.

Getting to the train station, Sydney managed to sneak into the train loading to another town. It was an underdeveloped town, making it the perfect place to hide. While on the train, her eyes roamed her surroundings, making sure she wasn't being followed. Deep in her heart, the earlier scene replayed. How was she able to do all that? She had never heard of it.

A young man touched her and she flinched. She was at the back of the train where items of baggage were being kept. She wasn't expecting anybody to go near there.

"What are you doing here? Do you know you're violating the rules?" He asked her, seeing the fear in her eyes.

"Please, I don't have any money and I need to get away from here, or else, they'll find me and take me away for good."

The man didn't understand all she was blabbing about but discerning she was terrified, he let her stay and pretended not to know anything. Sydney was grateful for his kind actions. He had even given her a cloth to cover herself. Once in a while, the man checked up on her and even helped her with a meal.

All through the ride, Sydney slept. She felt safe that somebody was watching over her. When the train had stopped, the man woke her up. Making sure that nobody saw her get out, he offered her some money.

"Go to Yandre, that's a perfect place to hide from anybody. The town is quite deserted and nobody would think of looking for you there." He advised with a smile and off she went. Sydney was grateful from the bottom of her heart. Immediately, she set off for Yandre. She had heard about that village as the most peaceful in the world. Conflicts seldom happen there and people hardly go there because of the hard rules and regulations.

She got to the village late at night. It was a very cold but well-lit village. She shivered as she walked down the street alone. She knew nobody would house a stranger, hence, her eyes scouted for a nice place to sleep. She didn't think about renting an inn because she had forgotten about the money that was given to her by the kind man on the train.

Goosebumps appeared on her skin as she shook. She really needed a warm place to stay. Almost giving up, an old woman approached her. Scared, she wanted to run away again but the old woman's voice stopped her.

"You must be new here, child. All the inns are closed now. Why don't you pass the night down at my place?" The lady smiled warmly, calming Sydney's alerting nerves. She knew the old lady wouldn't harm her because she had heard how hospitable the people of Yandre can be.

She followed the lady who welcomed her warmly into her home.

"Do you live alone?" Sydney asked.

"No, child. I have five children. They're asleep now. You should join them soon." After having a warm bath, the woman served her some food and clean clothes. Then, she was off to bed, leaving Sydney to her thoughts. She was glad she met kind people on the way who assisted her. There was no way she could actually repay them.

In the morning, Sydney was ready to go and face her reality. She didn't plan on staying in one place for too long. The alpha's men could trace her. She needed to distract them. But to do that, she needed money. And that was why she applied for a job at a cafe. To her surprise, she was accepted immediately, even with accommodation in the cafe's guest room. Everything seemed too good to be true but then again, they were happening. She felt great luck on her side.

It had been a week since she started working there and she was getting to love the place. It was quiet and the people were loving. Not like the usual drama she saw almost every day at her former workplace.

"Shouldn't you get going, Joan? It's late already." She asked her colleague who was still cleaning tables. It was already past 10 and shops were beginning to close.

"I can do all these. Just get home safely." She snatched the dish cloth from her colleague and gave her a stern look.

Smiling and rolling her eyes, Joan obliged and did as she was told.

"Goodnight Sydney." She waved as she disappeared through the door.

"Sir, we closing in five." She smiled sweetly at the last customer with an all-black coat and a black hat. She turned around to lock the back door.

"Hello, Sydney." His cold voice echoed gently in the room. She froze on the spot, unable to turn back.

'It's one of the alpha's men.' Her eyes dilated in fear and uncertainty.

"I've finally got you." He grinned.
