Capítulo 21: Unraveling Deceit

The rest of the day passed in a haze, but no matter what I did, the unsettling feeling from lunch clung to me like a shadow. Every time I tried to push it out of my mind, the unease crept back, gnawing at me, whispering that something wasn't right.

I paced my room, my thoughts spinning as I replayed the scene in the kitchen over and over. Elena's smile had seemed forced, her glances too quick, too nervous. And the taste of the food… it hadn't been right. I knew something had happened. I just didn't know what.

But what terrified me the most was the idea that Bruno was behind it. After the way he'd stormed out of the room earlier, his anger barely contained, I wouldn't put anything past him. 

He was determined to keep me from getting pregnant, and if that meant going behind my back and involving Elena in whatever scheme he'd cooked up, I had no doubt he'd do it.
