Capítulo 19: Blood League

ZSSSH!

[Horde Combat Mode Activating….]

Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue-Beetle missed his Scarab's notification and nearly jumped out of his suit as new weapons and extra bulk piled onto his exoskeletal frame. Not because of the weapons, additional arms, wings and extra armor on its own, but because he thought the Vampires had reached him.

Superman, Wonderwoman and both iterations of the Flash. They moved faster than human eyes could see and turned the outer edges of The Hall of Justice into a bloody battle zone.

People screamed and heroes became their worst nightmares.

Villains.

Red flashed across his vision in the shape of a snake and slithered around his midsection, coiling a dozen times over in a blink.

"You trying to make upgrades, amigo?" Plastic-Man's head rose up behind him. He casually dodged a blast from Blue-Beetle's shoulder mounted turret.

"You know it's not always up to me."

"Yea that's a problem." Plastic-Man flashed his fangs.

Jaime's heart dropped. "Dios mio…."

[Heavy Artillery Repulsors at 200%….]

[Instant Access to The Bleed—]

"No! He's a friend. Ice him."

Blue-Beetle raised his fist, encased in a cryogenic blast cannon that shot a stream of ice into Plastic-Man's chest. In a flash, the ice spread down to his lower portion allowing Jaime to break out of his hold.

Plastic-Man burst into smoke and bats before any real damage could be done.

From the clouds, another handful of Vampirized heroes pounced.

Blue-Beetle's ice blaster transformed into a shield. His boots cut through the concrete floors of sacred grounds as the feral monsters wearing his idols skins pushed against the shield to reach him.

"I'm gonna rip you out of that shell and eat you alive HAAHAH That really sounded convincing. Because it is!" Booster-Gold yelled with a fang-toothed smile beside Catman and Detective Chimp.

Blue-Beetle cringed as they pressed his shield.

"You got anything for Vampires, hermano? Garlic grenades? A sun sword?" Jaime asked his Scarab.

[Solar Energy Absorption…..70%]

"Ok there we go."

[Solar Explosion…..70–]

"WOAH WOAH WOAH! There's people here. Just give me some enhancements." Blue-Beetle panicked.

His scarab cursed him with a beep of the antenna on his back before a his left arm transformed into a sword with a fiery orange and blue edge.

"Sun-sword!"

Blue-Beetle's shield burst, sending his odd array of infected heroes tumbling backward and poofing into dark mist.

Blue-Beetle flew into the cloud of bats swinging his blade as he spun and twisted.

The clouds dissipated before recollecting into the forms of the heroes, now marked with scorching wounds burning their vampiric skin.

He continued flying through the horde, shrugging off fiends and brutes every second when—

"Help!" An innocent civilian yelled as Cyclone descended from above and pounced on her with her fangs coated in old blood.

Blue-Beetle's suit steamed as fissures of energy sparkled and tore open the fabric of reality.

[Entering The Bleed….]

Blue-Beetle charged as Cyclone lunged.

In a blink he was colliding with his old friend as if she was a step away instead of one hundred feet.

"Lo siento, hermana. You'll thank me later." Blue-Beetle said as he punched her in the face with Solar knuckle dusters.

Before he could do anymore, a blur flew passed him and sent him flying.

The Flash ran beside him as he tried to shake off the devastating punch.

"That was fast, Jaime! You have something you want to tell a fellow speedster?" He asked.

Blue-Beetle hit the floor and rolled a dozen times before flipping onto his feet and deploying his wings to slow himself. "This isn't looking good….. then again it never is. Smile, Jaime. It's just another day at work. Let's make Dan proud."

Without looking, he raised his blast cannon and shot Element Lad in the face.

"Yea. Teleportation beats speed."

The Flash's feet vibrated and the veins in his face bulged, "Not mine."

The two were completely still in the battle field.

A stand off between a speed-demon and alien-bug as the rest of the world lost its heroes to supernatural hunger.

Jaime was thankful that the suit processed his tears. Or else he might've drowned in those moments, hearing the innocents dying….. the heroes falling.

The flash took of—

Blue-Beetle stepped into the bleed, missing the flash entirely.

All across the battlefield— before the Hall of Justice, he reappeared and disappeared in flashes— in tears in reality. He was a blue flame of hope blazing through the red-dark as he placed civilians on remote parts of the world, sometimes returning with snacks and supplies and calming words, while sending heroes back to their home bases thanks to his Scarab's ability to hack into Amanda Waller's satellites.

In all of fifteen seconds, all that remained at the Hall of Justice was himself and his fallen heroes.

[Scarab energy…. 8%]

He steamed with electrical blue energy. Portions of his suit cracked and fell as technological dust, revealing portions of his terrified face beneath as the vampirized heroes surrounded him.

"Don't worry, amigos. I'll fix you. Just….. just hang o—"

A hand ripped through his chest from behind. He looked down, watching as his blood slicked the red glove, already torn by the growth of claws.

"You could've been special, Blue-Beetle. Actually, you were special. Too special. But only because of that spine-hugger." Superman said at the front of the horde.

"I thought teleportation beat speed, blue." The flash whispered from behind him.

Jaime coughed blood, "…..I can... I can…."

[Solar Bomb... 75–]

With a vibrating hand, the Flash severed his connection to the scarab. It was like losing a limb.

He faded. Slowly…..

In his seemingly final moments, an orange shimmer emerged from the hall of Justice roaring like a lion.

Vixen jumped off the steps, flipping to build her momentum before smashing a foot into the flash's face.

He stumbled backward, meal interrupted immediately as Vixen crouched over Jaime.

Her totem spun with energies taking the shape of a snarling and mother wolf as she protected the dying teen. Her pack— her cub. Against theres.

"Are you stupid?" Superman asked, "You're outnumbered and hilariously outclassed."

Vixen didn't falter, "You all seemed to forget, that's where we're best."

"Mhm." Superman's eyes went red.

Vixen kept the scarab hidden as it charged.

Numbers shown on the surface, "96…..98….9–"

A blur flew behind her, the scarab was gone in…..

"A flash…." She could've rolled her eyes as Kid Flash threw the scarab into the sky where the solar energy explosion split the clouds and raised the temperature by twenty degrees.

She looked down at Jaime, "You were amazing."

"Always am." Jaime forced a wink.

Vixen prepared to go down swinging when suddenly, a dark portal opened beside her.

From within, a volley of fire arrows and flaming bullets bit into the horde of fiends.

"Fall back!" Wonderwoman flew forward with her bracers blocking the projectiles cutting down the vampires.

Suddenly the ground beneath her rose up, sending her flying out of the way and leaving the vampires defenseless again.

They ran towards the hall.

From its shattered rooftops, another portal opened and out came something Vixen didn't understand.

"Werewolf…?"

The beast was massive. Corded muscle and dense black fur bristling under the sun. But something more glimmered.

The green lantern ring. A Lycan Lantern.

The beast raised its ring.

The sun was suddenly cloaked in green, turning the world to emerald shades as the creature reimagined the sun in the form of a construct.

"You bastards multiply like rats!" The werewolf roared.

"I guess that makes you the exterminator…." Vixen thought as the werewolf threw the sun at the horde of vampires.
