"Miss Fu, how do you feel now?" Mu Ling, seeing Fu Rong trying to sit up, asked her.
"What happened? Where are we driving to?" Fu Rong blinked a few times to remove her attention from the purple qi.
Just as Mu Ling opened his mouth to speak, Xie Bowen, who was driving, chimed in, "Sister Fu, you're awake? We were afraid something happened to you, so we were taking you to the hospital," only to receive a cold stare from Mu Ling.
He shrugged and drove quietly. Fu Rong, watching their exchange, chuckled. "It's nothing. I just felt a little unwell. I'm alright now. No need to go to the hospital."
"What happened to you? You were fine when you arrived. But after Bo Cheng pulled you, you seemed spaced out. After warning him to stay, you turned pale and fainted. Was it because of divination?" Mu Ling questioned, though his tone sounded more like confirmation.
"Nothing. It's just a backlash for voluntarily interfering with Young Master Bo's fate," Fu Rong casually replied, as if discussing someone else.
Mu Ling frowned. Xie Bowen, hearing her mention Bo Cheng, couldn't contain his curiosity. "Sister Fu, how did you interfere with Bo Cheng's fate? How did it backfire on you?"
Mu Ling, also curious for an answer, received a call. It was Bo Cheng. Without delay, he answered, "Hello. Tell me what it is?"
Bo Cheng spoke in his usual cold demeanor, but there was an excited voice on the other side. After it ended, Mu Ling seemed lost.
He looked at Fu Rong in shock and hung up the call. Bo Cheng, on the other side, was speechless.
"Bo Cheng met with an accident on Quilling Street," Mu Ling told Fu Rong and Xie Bowen, whose faces twisted in concern at the news. Seeing their anxiety, he added, "Nothing happened to him. He's alive and kicking. He wants to meet Miss Fu."
Fu Rong nodded and relaxed. "Then I'll meet him tomorrow afternoon." As she said this, the car reached her apartment. She nodded at Xie Bowen and Mu Ling, then got out and walked toward her house.
Mu Ling sighed. "Drive to City Hospital. Bo Cheng is still there." With that, they headed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Bo Cheng, who had been hung up on by Mu Ling, sighed. Why is my good brother not caring about me? Will he bring Sister Fu to meet me? he thought.
Mu Ling and Xie Bowen soon reached the hospital. Bo Cheng, still dazed and scared out of his wits, immediately cried, "Brother Mu... I... almost... died... Wuuu..." His words were jumbled.
"Shut up. Stop crying and tell me what happened," Mu Ling's patience was wearing thin with Bo Cheng's sobbing.
Bo Cheng composed himself and said, "Brother Mu, I almost died. First, a sniper shot at me and missed. Then, a truck crashed into my car, and my car burned into scrap." He was sweating with fear and turned pale but continued, "If not for Sister Fu's talisman, I would have been burned to ashes. You would have seen only my leftovers. No, there wouldn't even be any leftovers." He shuddered.
Mu Ling frowned upon hearing that Bo Cheng had been shot at by a sniper and had been in a truck accident. He made up his mind to investigate further. Something felt amiss and suspicious about the whole incident.
He met with the attending doctor and inquired about Bo Cheng's health. Though Bo Cheng was physically unharmed by the accident, the doctor recommended he consult a psychologist about the fear and after-effects of the accident. Judging by Bo Cheng's state, he definitely needed it.
After confirming Bo Cheng was doing well, Mu Ling left with Xie Bowen and Bo Cheng. Once inside the car, he called Song Peng. "Investigate the accident. I need the report on my desk by tomorrow morning."
Song Peng, who had just been woken up by the call, was shocked by Mu Ling's cold tone. Now fully awake, he thought, Boss, can I complain about how you exploit me and overwork me? But he didn't dare say it aloud, fearing for his life.
Mu Ling, seemingly reading Song Peng's mind, said, "After you finish, you can take a day off."
Song Peng grinned heartily. At last, a day off after working for my heartless, cold boss. I should use that day to go on a blind date.
He quickly started his work, happily grinning about the upcoming blind date.
Fu Rong, who had entered her home, went straight to bed. She was already weakened by her stolen luck, and now this divine punishment seemed to have affected her. She needed to rest to regain her energy. "At least I gained some yang energy from Mu Ling in exchange," she muttered, then slept soundly.
