Capítulo 14: Dealing with Ego [1]

You'd think life would be easier after I finally gave the nomads their home in Uruk. But, apparently, they didn't.

The reason? An egotistical, narcissistic, teenage King "G-Great Zack, what did you just say?!" Baraka practically yelled in front of me.

It has been a few days since we arrived in Uruk and we were standing at the new forest nomad section, as I called it.

The roof was made up of tree branches filled with leaves.

I probably could have used my powers to create a stone-roof, but I actually liked it more like this since it made this city section more iconic for the forest nomads.

But, back to the current subject. "I want you to be the new leader of these people," I said motioning to the nomads around.

They had large tents built around the section, mainly because it was faster than waiting for me to build a house one by one.

"B-But YOU are our leader, and I am certainly not worthy-"

"Baraka, that is my decision, and it's final," I said crossing my arms. "You trusted my judgement before, so trust it now."

There was two reasons I was making Baraka the leader of the forest nomads.

One: I wanted their lives off my shoulders now that we finally reached Uruk.

I didn't exactly want them to keep looking up to me like some higher entity, and I wasn't abandoning them completely.

I'll still stick around because Gilgamesh apparently wants a few things from me to finalise the deal of taking care of the nomads.

Two: I actually did believe Baraka would make a good leader.

He was the first nomad to actually work up the courage to walk up to me and actually ask for help.

I wasn't gonna sugar coat it.

I looked downright inhuman, with claws and fangs, so Baraka working out the courage to ask me for help despite that fact to help his people meant a lot.

"I-If you believe it is for the best," Baraka mumbled, still caught off guard by what I said.

I turned around and walked away from him as other nomads surrounded him and started congratulating him and praising him.

I groaned as I heard a few mentions of the 'blessing of the great Zack: Somethings never change I guess.

I reached the end of the square and looked around at Uruk.

It was honestly an amazing city despite being thousands of years before modern time.

Guess most stories exaggerated on how primitive old civilization were.

I'm not saying they had technology or anything.

I'm just saying they were seriously well organised.

I was honestly expecting only this level of organisation from the time of Gilgamesh's adulthood.

"Elemental Zack," Two Uruk guards walked up towards me and one of them spoke. "King Gilgamesh has ordered for your presence."

(Speak of the devil, Also, 'ordered'? Really?) I couldn't help but shake my head. "Sure, lead me to him."

When he told me to stick around, Gilgamesh also said something about contributing to Uruk, so I guess he probably has some work around the city for me.

Boy, did I underestimate how self-centered he was.

"I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" I asked Gilgamesh. "Do not make a habit of making me repeat myself," Gilgamesh said before pointing at his said. "Fill my bath with water."

I genuinely thought this was a prank for a moment.

Gilgamesh DID have work for me in the city.

He wanted me to refill the water fountains around the city since getting clean water is obviously hard for a city like Uruk.

Sure, the sea wasn't far, and there was a river not far away, but you can't get exactly drink sea water, and the river usually required several days to travel to, and that's if they don't get attacked halfway through.

But, before I help his city with their desperate water supply, what did Gilgamesh ask from me?

He asked me to fill his bath water, We were in the Royal baths. It was really big, but empty of water. Statues of lions and golden decorationscovered the area.

He apparently heard how clean the water I make is, and wanted to try it out for himself in his baths. I truly was speechless that he prioritised THAT before getting his own city some drinking water.

On one hand, I had to admire the audacity he had tonsay this without a care in the world like he was talking about the weather.

On the other hand, he was literally everything rotten in society and I should punch him in the face.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," I sighed as I changed to my water element and held my hands forward.

Water shot from my palms and started filling the large bath.

Soon, it was entirely full with clean, glittering water.

"Splendid," praise from Gilgamesh himself. In any other situation, I would have been honoured, but in this one, it just made me feel dirty.

"I see the rumours of you water were not exaggerated," he said looking at his reflection in the water.

(I swear if he starts making poses...) I groaned mentally as I turned around and started walking away. "Anyway,I guess I'll be going to help your city with their water. You know, like they need."

Gilgamesh just waved me off. "Yes, yes. Be off now. I might have something else for you later."

Deciding to be petty this once, I raised my hand and caused the section of the water he was using as a mirror to explode upwards like a geyser, striking Gilgamesh in the face.

Several golden weapons shot at me while I was walking away, But, since I was in my water element, they just passed through me.

I chuckled as i passed the gates of the baths and saw the servants around looking at me like I just committed mass genocide.

They were obviously not used to seeing someone troll Gilgamesh and get away without a scratch.

That was the start of a very... very... odd friendship
