Emma's POV
After hearing Kitty's question, I felt that she wasn't fully understanding my project. But I don't blame her, she's in that transition phase from girl to woman.
I just smiled and said, "You don't understand. The virtual reality game is just a process. The true project is to give humans powers from another world that would allow them to protect themselves."
"I'm already in collaboration with the government to create my school, one that will let me recruit superhumans and train them. In the future, I plan to establish a kind of superhero alliance."
After all, I need them to understand that while they're important to my plan, I've already started working with the government. I can move forward without their help if necessary.
The old foxes like Banner, Charles, or Pym could probably see what I mean. But even if they don't choose to join, I can still complete this project on my own, it'll just take longer, as I'll need to buy things from the system myself.
Skye, who had been silent until now, finally asked, "Let's say we accept your offer, and we successfully create this virtual reality world. Not only that, but humans also gain the powers you mentioned.
"Then, who would control them? And how? After gaining such power, many changes would occur, and society's structure could collapse. I wouldn't be surprised if the strong started building kingdoms of their own.
"How could we ensure that countries don't come into conflict because of this? In short, all kinds of chaos could happen."
I turned to Skye, appreciating her insightful questions. It was quite a contrast, if I recalled correctly, she didn't trust the government or SHIELD in the beginning.
Yet here she was, thinking like someone from the government. I guess that's what they mean when they say time changes everyone.
I said, "Isn't that why I've gathered some of the greatest minds of humanity here? I can't completely trust the government, which is why a neutral organization needs to be created, one that can oversee everything."
"As the cause of these changes, I naturally take responsibility for the consequences of my actions."
Just as I finished speaking, I heard someone sneering, subtle, but noticeable. It was Hank Pym. I knew he needed my help, but his arrogance was impossible to hide.
He said, "A neutral organization with that much power? And you think the government will just let you go ahead with it?"
I turned to him, my smile vanishing. Different circumstances call for different attitudes. "That has nothing to do with you. I have my own ways of dealing with the government."
He shook his head and said, "Look at how you reply to me. You don't even want to discuss this with us. What if, in the future, after taking control of this organization, you become too arbitrary? I can't let a young girl control the world."
Ah, I see. He wanted to reduce my influence, likely to ensure he had more say in the future. To him, I was just too young.
This made me laugh. "Haha, hahaha."
Hank didn't expect my reaction. Irritated, he asked, "What's so funny?"
I replied, "Nothing, it's just that what you're saying makes you sound a little foolish. As the third oldest person here, I expected more from you.
"If you don't understand, let me make it clear: I'm not asking for your help, permission, or support. I'm offering you an opportunity to be part of a project that will change the world.
"Whether I'm young or not isn't for you to decide. My master there has lived more than five times your age and hasn't said a word of complaint.
"Yet here you are, not questioning the project itself, but me. If my age bothers you so much, Mr. Pym, then by all means, stay out of it. I have no interest in dragging dead weight into something of this scale."
Hank's face darkened, but I didn't stop.
"Besides, if you're so concerned about control, remember this: power naturally seeks balance. A system too heavily skewed in any one direction will collapse under its own weight.
"That's why I brought you all here, to craft a structure that isn't just sustainable but adaptable. You don't have to trust me; trust your own expertise."
Charles Xavier, who had been silent until now, finally spoke, his tone calm but firm. "Emma, while I appreciate your ambition and foresight, Hank raises a valid point.
"Power does corrupt, and checks and balances are vital. The idea of a neutral organization is sound, but it must be built on principles, not personal ambition."
I turned to him, my expression softening. "Professor, I respect your wisdom. That's why I said I'm not doing this alone."
"I'm inviting minds like yours to help shape this vision, to create those checks and balances. But make no mistake: this project is happening, with or without your participation."
No matter the relationships I had with these people, no one could stop me from earning the points I needed to become stronger, unless they had the ability to stop me.
Charles could stop me, considering his powers to control minds and divert attention. But I doubted he would.
I sighed and took a step back. "Anyway, I'll give you some time to think about it. The next meeting will be in five days. By then, I expect clear responses on who is and isn't with me.
"And one more thing: I hope none of you share any details about what we've discussed today, especially you, Skye. I know you trust SHIELD, but the waters there run deep, and there's a high-level spy among them, someone you'd never suspect."
Skye's eyes narrowed at my statement, suspicion flaring instantly. "A spy? In SHIELD?"
I said, "Anyway, you know about my master's ability to see the future. Let's just say we have top-level intelligence that no one else on Earth has.
"This confidentiality is only for a few days, until I officially launch the project. I need time to prepare a few things."
With that, the Ancient One opened a portal for everyone present. Tonight, they would likely have sleepless nights, replaying this meeting in their minds over and over again.
