Layla knitted her brows together as she saw Lucius's expression.

"Are you alright, Lucius?" Layla finally queried.

Lucius quickly wore a fake smile, not wanting to worry them. "I need to leave urgently for a work," he said.

"What work?" Layla pressed, trying to figure out what he has been hiding.

"Well, it's related to my precious client. He's quite upset with me for not keeping my word. I shouldn't have postponed our meeting for so long. I'll drop you both at the cottage first, then head out to handle it."

Layla tilted her head slightly, her expression skeptical. "Why would you delay something so important? Who is this client, Lucius?"

Lucius hesitated briefly before responding "It's Eugene Lombardi," he admitted. 'He's the only one who can help me right now in this lie.'
