As soon as Layla stepped out of the hospital's main door, she found her path blocked by Roderick. Her expression hardened as she turned to her mother. "You go ahead, Mom," she said softly before stepping aside to face him.

"I thought I made myself clear—don't bother me like this," Layla snapped with an unwavering glare.

Roderick smirked, unfazed by her hostility. "Don't you think you let the wrong person stay behind with your husband?" he asked, his tone dripping with insinuation.

"I trust your mother more," Layla replied curtly.

Roderick chuckled darkly, his gaze steady on her. "I shouldn't be saying this, but my mother always wanted to marry my uncle. The only reason it didn't happen is that he never entertained her advances."

"I know," Layla retorted, her voice cold and unyielding. "You don't need to tell me."
