21.42% My Werewolf System: In The Vampire Diaries Universe / Chapter 6: Ties That Bind

Capítulo 6: Ties That Bind

As the door closed behind Bonnie, Alex lingered for a moment on her porch, staring into the night. The soft glow of the porch light cast shadows across the lawn, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the nearby trees. For a brief moment, everything seemed peaceful—deceptively so, given the turbulent reality of Mystic Falls.

Walking back to the Lockwood mansion, Alex's mind raced with plans and possibilities. He had already noticed the subtle increase in his strength and speed from the past few days of effort. The system was working, but it wasn't enough. Not yet. He needed more power, and the only way to get it was by leveling up and unlocking new abilities.

He had a month to figure things out before his next birthday, a timeline that hung over his head like a sword of Damocles. He couldn't afford to waste time. If he was going to survive—and protect his family—he had to be proactive.

Once inside his room, he took a deep breath and opened the system interface.

He considered the points he'd accumulated. He could spend them on improving his existing skills, but part of him wanted to save them. The store would unlock at Level 10, and he wanted to make sure he had enough points to buy something truly powerful once it did. He also had to keep in mind that skills and stat upgrades would only become more expensive as he leveled up.

"Strategy," Alex muttered to himself. "It's all about strategy."

He decided to focus on his daily missions for now, planning to tackle one of the monthly missions by the end of the week. If he could survive an encounter with a vampire or gather significant intel on one of the key players in town, he would be much closer to reaching Level 9.

Daily Missions:

Run 5 miles (Completed): +50 XP, +5 Points

Practice Combat for 2 hours (Completed): +75 XP, +10 Points

Observe a target unnoticed for 30 minutes (Completed): +100 XP, +10 Points

Monthly Missions:

Survive an encounter with a vampire: +500 XP, +50 Points

Gather intel on a key supernatural figure: +400 XP, +40 Points

Strengthen a supernatural alliance: +350 XP, +35 Points

As Alex mulled over his options, he considered the potential allies he could approach. Bonnie was a natural choice given their budding friendship and her growing powers. But there were others—like Alaric Saltzman, the town's history teacher with a secret life as a vampire hunter, or even Tyler Lockwood, who was gradually learning to navigate his own werewolf heritage.

The idea of reaching out to Tyler gave Alex pause. While they were technically family, they weren't close. Tyler had always been distant, and his recent struggles with his werewolf side had only made him more isolated. But maybe that was the point. Maybe what Tyler needed was someone who understood him—or at least someone who was willing to try.

With that in mind, Alex decided that the first step in his plan would be to forge a connection with Tyler. If they could build trust, Tyler might become a valuable ally. And more importantly, it would give Alex a better understanding of what he could expect as he progressed with his own werewolf abilities.

The Next Morning

The sun had barely risen when Alex found Tyler training in the woods behind the Lockwood mansion. Tyler's bare chest was covered in a sheen of sweat, and his movements were fluid and precise as he punched and kicked a training dummy. There was a fierceness to his every motion, a determination to control the beast within him.

"Tyler," Alex called out as he approached, trying to sound casual.

Tyler stopped mid-kick and turned, his expression hard. "What do you want, Alex?"

"Just thought I'd join you," Alex replied, stopping a few feet away. "It's good to see you training."

Tyler scoffed, clearly not convinced of Alex's sincerity. "Since when do you care?"

"Since I realized we're both dealing with a lot of the same stuff," Alex said, keeping his tone even. "Look, I know we haven't been close, but maybe we should be. We're family, after all."

Tyler hesitated, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. "Yeah, well, family doesn't always mean much in this town."

Alex stepped closer, his gaze steady. "It does to me. And I think it does to you, too. I'm not here to fight with you, Tyler. I'm here to help—if you'll let me."

For a moment, Tyler didn't respond, his eyes narrowing as he assessed Alex. Then, finally, he sighed and nodded. "Alright. But don't think this means we're suddenly best friends or something."

"Fair enough," Alex agreed with a small smile. "Let's start by sparring. I could use the workout, and you could use a partner."

Tyler raised an eyebrow but didn't protest. He stepped back and motioned for Alex to take up a stance. "You sure you can keep up?"

"Try me," Alex said, dropping into a defensive position.

The sparring match began slowly, each of them testing the other's strength and speed. Tyler was faster and stronger, but Alex had the advantage of his newly acquired skills and the element of surprise. He dodged Tyler's punches with agility, landing a few strikes of his own before retreating to avoid Tyler's counterattacks.

As they continued, Alex found himself getting into a rhythm, his movements becoming more fluid and instinctive. The system was working, subtly guiding him through the fight, enhancing his reflexes and sharpening his focus.

After several minutes, Tyler called for a break, breathing heavily. "You're not bad," he admitted, though there was a grudging note in his voice.

"You're not so bad yourself," Alex replied, equally winded but feeling a sense of accomplishment. He could feel the experience points ticking up in his mind, the system rewarding him for the intense physical activity and the successful engagement with Tyler.

XP: 2305/3000

Points: 145

As they caught their breath, Alex decided to take a risk. "Tyler, I've been thinking… We're both going through a lot right now, and it's only going to get harder. Maybe we should watch each other's backs. You know, just in case."

Tyler glanced at him, his expression guarded. "You're saying we should team up?"

"Yeah," Alex said. "Like I said, we're family. And in this town, family should stick together."

For a long moment, Tyler didn't respond. He seemed to be weighing Alex's words, considering the implications. Then, finally, he nodded. "Alright, Alex. We'll give it a shot. But don't make me regret it."

"You won't," Alex promised, feeling a sense of relief. This was the first step toward building the alliances he needed to survive in Mystic Falls.

Later That Evening

After spending the rest of the day training with Tyler, Alex returned to the mansion, feeling a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction. His muscles ached from the physical exertion, but it was a good kind of pain—the kind that came from pushing his limits and growing stronger.

He was about to head to his room when his phone buzzed with a text. Pulling it out, he saw it was from Bonnie.

Found some information that might help with the spell. Can you come over tomorrow?

Alex quickly typed out a response, agreeing to meet her. Bonnie's spell could be crucial to their survival, and he was eager to see what she had discovered.

As he made his way upstairs, Alex couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. Things were starting to fall into place. He was getting stronger, building alliances, and uncovering secrets that could give him the edge he needed.

But he also knew that the peace wouldn't last. The dangers of Mystic Falls were always lurking just beneath the surface, and it was only a matter of time before the next threat emerged.

He just hoped that when it did, he would be ready.
