Capítulo 121: Disavowed

At 10 o'clock in the morning, Sakura, along with the other V.I.P. guests, departed from their hotel and joined up with the procession of people heading towards the wedding hall.

"Neji, do you have eyes on Hinata?" Sakura mouthed. "Can you confirm that it's her?"

Sakura glanced upwards. Neji was supposed to be hiding somewhere high up to get a bird's-eye view of the situation, but security was extremely tight— Kumo shinobi on every rooftop along the way to the shrine. They were taking no chances with this, so it was likely that Neji had been forced to hide farther away from the procession's designated path…

"N…o…t… S…u…r…e," said Karin slowly, squinting her eyes. "Or at least, I think that's what he said..."

While Sakura had been training to master two new Jutsu over the past week, Neji and Karin had been working on a way to communicate from a distance. After mulling over the matter for a while, they had decided to adapt an old Hyūga clan communication method from before the advent of radio comm technology.

Since Neji could read lips and see through walls, he could easily tell what Sakura was telling him, even though he was likely more than a kilometre away. Then, if he wanted to respond, he needed only make his chakra fluctuate with a certain rhythm; Karin would then interpret the fluctuations as a sort of Morse code, and translate them back into Japanese for Sakura to understand.

"What was that, dear?" said Lord Tsuchimikado, sounding supremely bored. "You were saying something?"

They were currently near the tail end of Hinata's wedding procession, which really wasn't the most interesting part of the line. If Sakura squinted her eyes, she would sometimes catch a glimpse of a red parasol bobbing in and out of sight above the other guests' heads.

Traditionally, the groom and the bride would walk at the front of the wedding procession, followed by close relatives and friends. The groom or an attendant would hold a parasol over the bride's head to shield her from the sun, which is what Sakura could see from a distance.

But if Sakura could see the top of her umbrella, then why couldn't Neji peek under Hinata's bridal veil and confirm her identity? He had seemed so sure in his ability to recognize his cousin earlier, so what on earth was going on with him?

Suddenly, Sakura felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Haruno Sakura, is it?" a cold woman's voice rang out behind her. "Come with us quietly. Try to resist, and my teammate will run you through with her sword— so I'd suggest complying."

A shiver ran down Sakura's spine as something pointy poked her in the small of her back.

She and her team had been using pseudonyms all this time, so how could she have possibly been identified? She refused to believe that she had reached the level of notoriety required for enemies to recognize her on sight!

"What is the meaning of this?" Karin cried out imperiously, as she whirled on the spot to face Sakura's interlocutor. "This is my bodyguard!"

"You know you've hired a Konoha ninja, right?" came a second girl's voice. "We received intel that someone might try to crash that guy's wedding, and it looks like it's accurate…"

Sakura's mind raced as she tried to figure out who could have possibly outed her. Within the Leaf Village, she was still an extremely minor character— beneath most people's notice. Even though she had saved the village from the One-Tail, there hadn't even been an awards ceremony or a promotion for her yet— very few people knew about her or her abilities.

And of those who knew of her terrifying Genjutsu powers, most of them were the Jōnin she'd fought side by side with during the Konoha Crush; not exactly the most loose-lipped of people…

'Maybe… could it have been Tenten?' said Inner Sakura hesitatingly. 'If I'm remembering things correctly, she's always wanted to be a hero just like Naruto, and we did accidentally ditch her on her very own adventure…'

"Come with us," the girl repeated angrily, and she pulled on Sakura's wrist.

And that's when Sakura saw the two women's faces; they belonged to Karui and Samui!

"I'll be okay," Sakura mouthed to Karin, as she was dragged away.

The two women dragged Sakura into a dark alley, before slamming her into a wall.

"This is you, isn't it?" Samui said calmly, as she fished a document from her cleavage and shoved it in Sakura's face. "You've dyed your hair and you've grown a bit since then, but there can be no mistake about it…"

Well, if they already had that much information on her, then the gig was pretty much up.

"Okay, you've got me," Sakura admitted. "But why am I talking to you, instead of waking up in an interrogation room with a bunch of ANBU?"

Something was very strange with this entire situation, and it did not sit well with Sakura.

"We found this, along with two other documents, on one of your comrades before he committed suicide, just ten minutes ago," said Samui coolly. "We know there are more of you here, so talk. Where are Hyūga Neji and Uzumaki Karin?"

'If you wanted Karin,' said Inner Sakura, 'then you just missed her… Wait, comrades? What comrades!?'

At last, the puzzle pieces were starting to fall into place.

All of this was straight out of Danzō's playbook— it was just as Tenten had feared; the Root had also succeeded in their infiltration of the Hidden Cloud. In all likelihood, one of the Root's members had deliberately revealed a flaw in order to get captured, 'inadvertently' exposing the fact that Sakura and her team had also managed to infiltrate the Hidden Cloud…

'The Root had an entire week to come up with a plan,' said Inner Sakura through gritted teeth. 'They're actually using fellow villagers as a diversion to accomplish their own mission, the bastards!'

This was extremely bad— Karin would be fine as long as she kept up her disguise, but the Root's actions had just placed Neji and Hinata in grave danger!
