“You called me, Alpha?” I bowed my head, knowing what was about to come, but still, it hurt to listen to the words that I had been dreading.

“You have disappointed me, Alex.” Alpha Charles’s voice wasn’t harsh; it was just soft and calm…like he really was disappointed in me. And that was what hurt even more. If only he yelled and got angry…

“I’ll resign from my duties, if that helps the pack.” I kept my head lowered as I spoke. “I know I’ve disappointed everyone. But that rogue is my mate. I couldn’t have abandoned her, Alpha, not even for the pack.”

“Our mates are our world; I know that more than you ever would.” Alpha Charles told me now, rising from his seat to come to stand in front of me.

“There is a cellar at the outskirts of the pack for this very reason. To keep prisoners or wolves who we are yet to determine if they are friends or foes. You could have taken her there." His voice was serious.
