Renee Cedric is insufferable. It infuriates me how people practically worship her, like she can do no wrong. At her event, the number of influential men she attracted was astonishing. Even Liam, who's usually too busy with his schedule, couldn't resist attending. 

And then there's Adan. I could see it written all over his face—how hard he was trying to impress her. I know he's desperate to win his father's approval, craving recognition that has always been out of reach. But I refuse to let him do it at the expense of our relationship.

Sitting on the bed in my nightdress, I watched Adan getting dressed for the day. "What were you talking to Renee about at her event?" I asked, the memory of Renee's smug smile replaying in my mind. She looked at me like I was beneath her, like I didn't belong.
