Capítulo 257: Chapter 257: The Impure Summoning of 'That Person'

A quick glance over the obscure black curse symbols on the ground revealed only four characters that were understandable: "Impure World Reincarnation." Ye Zi closed the door behind him and asked, "What is this?"

Orochimaru, without turning around, replied coldly, "A very interesting forbidden technique."

Ye Zi walked over to him, looking at the man lying in the center of the room, and said flatly, "Did you learn this from Konoha's Forbidden Scroll?"

Konoha's Forbidden Scroll was something Ye Zi had once been eager to explore, but he had never had the opportunity to examine it. He hadn't expected that Orochimaru would mention it in passing, which made him realize that one of the benefits Orochimaru and Danzo gained from their cooperation was access to that scroll.

Thinking about how he had risked his life for Konoha, carrying out so many missions for the Root in hopes of gaining access to such techniques, he had always seen the Forbidden Scroll as one of his potential methods to find a way back. Yet, he never got the chance to see it, while Orochimaru, just by cooperating with Danzo, could easily gain access. Sometimes, Ye Zi couldn't deny feeling a bit resentful.

If Ye Zi knew that Jiraiya merely had to ask Hiruzen for permission for Minato to access the Forbidden Scroll, one wonders how he would feel.

"Of course. Most of these techniques were created by the Second Hokage. I won't deny that they're widely useful and quite interesting. However, they still have room for improvement, or rather, they need improvement." Orochimaru licked his lips with his long tongue. He had always had a deep interest in forbidden techniques and other fringe methods, even studying the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques seriously.

"What kind of technique is this?" Ye Zi's curiosity was piqued by Orochimaru's words.

Orochimaru flashed a chilling smile. In this moment, he seemed more terrifying than ever, almost inhuman.

He looked at the dust around the sacrifice and sneered, "Impure World Reincarnation, a technique that can summon the souls of the dead back to the living world."

Ye Zi's expression changed slightly, though the shock didn't last long. After all, if techniques like the Rinne Rebirth, which could bring people back to life, existed, a technique that merely summoned souls was not surprising.

"Just summoning souls?" he asked with a hint of doubt.

Orochimaru's smile remained unchanged as he coolly said, "No. If it were only about summoning souls, I wouldn't waste my time researching this technique. The souls summoned by this technique can be revived in a physical form."

Ye Zi's eyes narrowed slightly in interest. "A physical resurrection? So, the revived person would have their abilities from when they were alive? What if the soul you want to revive doesn't exist?"

"The revived person does retain their abilities from life, though not at their peak," Orochimaru responded, raising an eyebrow at Ye Zi's question. Then, with a hint of curiosity, he asked, "A soul that doesn't exist? Do you mean a sealed soul?"

"No." Ye Zi shook his head and said, "I mean a soul that doesn't exist in the truest sense."

Orochimaru snorted and said dismissively, "Theoretically, if the soul doesn't exist, it can't be summoned."

"I see. Please continue," Ye Zi said, narrowing his eyes, signaling Orochimaru to proceed.

Without paying much attention to Ye Zi's words, Orochimaru summoned two scrolls from his storage space and said, "Now, let me show you the interesting part of this forbidden technique."

Ye Zi, his curiosity deepening, took a few steps back to calmly observe Orochimaru's next actions.

"The 'material' used as the living sacrifice—if it's too weak, it will affect the strength of the resurrected person. Ideally, the material should be a clone with Hashirama's cells, but this is just the initial experiment. I don't want to waste valuable resources just yet."

Orochimaru unrolled the scroll in his right hand, and with a rustle, its pages dropped down, revealing patterns similar to the ones on the floor, except they lacked the characters for "Impure World Reincarnation."

"Since you've come at such a convenient time, I'll introduce you to someone interesting," Orochimaru said, a malicious smile spreading across his face.

Ye Zi remained expressionless. Someone interesting? Who could it be?

"In order to summon a soul back to the living world, the body requires a certain amount of flesh," Orochimaru explained as he opened the storage scroll in his left hand, revealing a lifeless, decayed piece of flesh.

Though Orochimaru wasn't wearing gloves, he didn't seem to mind as he grabbed the flesh and pressed it onto the empty space on the right-hand scroll where the pattern was incomplete.

"Preparation complete."

As soon as Orochimaru finished speaking, he put down the scroll and clasped his hands together, forming the 'Serpent' seal.

Suddenly, a faint blue glow unique to chakra radiated from beneath the Iwa ninja being used as the sacrifice. Moments later, strange, paper-like objects began to emerge from the light, swirling around the body before slowly covering it.

"That looks a lot like Konan's Paper Technique, where she wraps her enemies entirely in paper," Ye Zi thought silently.

As the technique progressed, Orochimaru's malicious grin deepened.

Though Ye Zi wasn't so absorbed that he missed Orochimaru's facial expressions, he couldn't help but frown slightly. He had a feeling that Orochimaru was indulging in some dark amusement at his expense.

In no time, the yellowed, ancient-looking paper underwent a sudden change.

Ye Zi watched the scene unfold, his gaze shifting in tandem with the paper's transformation.

The Iwa ninja, now completely covered by the paper, had morphed into the form of Kato Dan, though with several conspicuous cracks on his surface, making him look rather unnatural.

"You bastard." At this moment, Ye Zi finally understood why Orochimaru had been smiling like that.

Orochimaru gave a faint smile and asked, "What do you think? A fascinating forbidden technique, isn't it?"

Ye Zi cast a speechless glance at him and asked, "What happens next?"

"There are some follow-up details I'll share with you later, but for now, he's about to wake up," Orochimaru replied.

As soon as he finished speaking, Kato Dan suddenly opened his dull, lifeless eyes, a look of confusion flashing across his face.

"Where am I?"

Upon regaining consciousness, Kato Dan instinctively tried to get up with his usual agility, only to find that his body wasn't responding.

Realizing he was likely being controlled, his expression changed, and he quickly scanned his surroundings. When his eyes landed on Orochimaru and Ye Zi, his pupils immediately contracted.

At this moment, his memories from the time of his death rushed back vividly.

"Ye Zi." Kato Dan looked at Ye Zi with a complicated expression, showing neither the awareness nor emotions one would expect from someone who had been killed.

He was certain that he had died at Ye Zi's hands, yet he didn't understand why he was here. Still, he was sure it had something to do with Orochimaru and Ye Zi.

Meeting Kato Dan's gaze, which held no trace of hatred, Ye Zi's expression also became complicated.

"I killed you. Don't you hate me?" he asked calmly.

Orochimaru watched from the side, finding the situation quite amusing.
