Anne laughed at her son. "You have never even met Lucian before. I only read what his mother says about him in the letters to you, and yet you believe he is your friend already?" She stroked his reddish hair as she shook her head in amazement.

"Aye, he is. I will meet him someday, just like you said, and we will become the best of friends and protect Rose together," Rylan proclaimed as he stroked his mother's belly. Ave watched with a bitter smile on her face, knowing he wouldn't live to protect his sister as he claimed he would. He would be killed along with every single member of the Glynn household. Only Catherine and Selene, along with Jasmine—whose mother was the third wife of Kori—would survive, but even Jasmine had been killed right before Ave's eyes.

"Juliet, you should really spend more time with your husband than come to me every day. I don't need you here that much," Anne said one day as she was taking a stroll in her garden with her maidservant.
