Bruno smiled, "You haven't even tried them yet. Come, sit down, and let me help you."
Bruno guided Vanessa to a seat and, with a smile, knelt to help her put on the shoes. Normally, this was the sales assistant's job, but having Bruno do it added a special touch. Vanessa lifted her leg, allowing Bruno to remove her old shoes and gently slip on the new ones. He admired her soft, warm feet, feeling a surge of affection.
Once the expensive shoes were on, Bruno looked up, meeting Vanessa's gaze. Her heart fluttered at his tender expression, feeling a deep connection between them.
"I told you these shoes are perfect for you," Bruno said. "Walk a bit and see how they feel, Vanessa."
Vanessa stood, holding Bruno's shoulder for support, and walked a few steps. The high heels clicked on the marble floor, a sound Bruno loved. Vanessa's graceful walk reminded him of the poetic descriptions of goddesses in classical literature. He realized he was captivated by her elegant feet and overall charm.
"Do you like them, Bruno?" Vanessa asked softly after a few steps.
Bruno nodded, smiling, "They're beautiful, Vanessa. These shoes are made for you."
As they spoke, a cold voice interrupted, "These shoes cost $180,000. Can you afford them?"
It was the girl from earlier, watching them with disdain. Seeing Bruno kneel to help Vanessa had sparked an inexplicable jealousy in her.
Bruno frowned, not liking her attitude. Turning back to Vanessa, he saw her sitting down, preparing to remove the shoes.
"Yes, Bruno, they're too expensive. Let's not buy them," she said.
For Bruno, $180,000 was a significant amount but not beyond his means. His annual salary at Udinese was €3 million, with about €1.7 million after taxes. Since Vanessa had decided against the purchase, Bruno didn't insist. "As you wish, Vanessa," he said.
Vanessa, back in her original shoes, smiled, "I've bought a lot already. Bruno, why don't you pick something you like? I'll buy it for you."
Unaware of their relationship, the girl sneered at what she assumed was a gold-digger dynamic. She looked at Bruno with even more contempt.
As Vanessa returned the shoes to a sales assistant and prepared to leave with Bruno, the girl called out loudly, "Sales assistant?"
The assistant approached, and the girl, with a triumphant look, said, "Wrap up these black diamond-studded high heels for me."
The assistant, puzzled, asked, "But didn't you say you didn't like black earlier?"
The girl smirked at Bruno and Vanessa, "That was earlier. Now I think these shoes suit me. Not everyone can afford $180,000 shoes, you know."
She glared at Vanessa and Bruno, clearly enjoying her perceived victory.
