Capítulo 58: The Invincible Hulk

It was afternoon in a desert military base in the United States.

General Ross was seated in his office, busy with paperwork.

"Knock, knock..."

A knock on the door interrupted him.

"Come in."

As the door opened, a soldier stepped inside.

"General, after drinking a bottle of soda, someone was found to have excessive gamma radiation in their body."

"Upon investigation, we discovered the soda was contaminated with blood, and the gamma radiation is coming from that blood."

General Ross immediately put down the documents in his hand, "Is it Dr. Banner?"

"Yes, after comparing the DNA, it matches Dr. Banner's one hundred percent."

"Where was the soda manufactured?"

"A factory in Rocinha, Brazil."

"Then what are we waiting for? Go and capture him!"

"Yes, General!"

"Wait, has Umbrella delivered the equipment?"

"They've only sent ten units."

"I'll contact Umbrella and tell them to deliver the rest. Also, I need an elite special forces unit."

.............

The next morning~

In the slums of Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil, home to 250,000 people.

It was a place of extreme contrast—on one side of the street were luxurious skyscrapers for the rich, and on the other, low, dilapidated houses filled with garbage and sewage.

Banner walked swiftly down the filthy streets, carrying a backpack and wearing a white short-sleeve shirt with black pants.

Soon, he arrived at a martial arts gym and greeted the owner, a middle-aged Brazilian man.

"You're here."

Banner nodded.

"Let's get started."

A few minutes later, dressed in a sleeveless white vest, Banner stood in the center of the gym.

Since it was still early, the gym wasn't officially open, and it was just the two of them.

They began with some wrestling exercises, and after warming up, they sat down to discuss techniques.

"You need to adjust your breathing, always staying calm. Your emotions reside here."

The gym owner tapped his chest, indicating the heart.

Banner listened intently, absorbing every word.

He was learning techniques to control his emotions, hoping to prevent the Hulk from emerging.

"Then, breathe like this."

The owner patted his stomach and began to demonstrate abdominal breathing, expanding and contracting his belly as he exhaled.

"Huff, huff, huff..."

Banner mimicked him, practicing the abdominal breathing technique.

"The key to controlling your anger is to control your body—your pulse. Breathe, breathe."

"Smack!"

Suddenly, the gym owner slapped Banner across the face. Banner exhaled through his belly, working to control his anger.

"Smack!"

Another slap followed.

At that moment, Banner's pulse monitor on his wrist began to beep. He glanced at it, seeing his pulse had already hit over 160.

He immediately signaled for the owner to stop the session, afraid he might lose control and transform into the Hulk, possibly crushing the owner with a single blow.

Half an hour later, Banner returned to his job at the soda factory.

Throughout the day, he was provoked several times but managed to control his emotions well, which gave him hope for the future.

As long as he could keep his emotions in check, he could return to Elizabeth and resume a normal life.

Banner worked as a mechanical equipment maintenance worker at the factory, and he also took on temporary delivery jobs when needed.

After a long, exhausting day of work, he returned home and lay down to rest.

Half an hour later.

"Ding... ding..."

His laptop chimed, indicating a new message. It was from Mr. Blue.

There must be some results.

A few days ago, Banner had sent a blood sample to the mysterious Mr. Blue, hoping he could develop a medication to suppress the gamma radiation.

Though he knew it was risky to send his blood to a stranger, he couldn't rely solely on controlling his anger.

With that in mind, Banner got up and sat at his desk, opening the laptop.

After a series of encryption processes, he accessed the chat software.

"Mr. Green, hello. Initial tests on your blood sample show a clear reduction in gamma radiation."

"Can you cure me?"

"Yes."

Banner's heart leapt with excitement and hope.

"However, I need more data."

"Radiation purity, gamma concentration, cellular saturation."

"That's impossible. The data isn't here."

To avoid suspicion, Banner had lied to Mr. Blue, claiming the blood belonged to a patient of his.

"Where is it?"

The question made Banner pause, conflicted. He wasn't sure if Mr. Blue was telling the truth or trying to lure him in.

After glancing at a photo of Elizabeth, he made a decision.

"At home."

He loved his girlfriend and didn't want to live like this forever. He wanted to rid himself of the gamma radiation and become a normal man again.

Closing the laptop, Banner lay down, planning to send more samples in the morning.

............

Meanwhile, a black van drove through the slums. Inside sat several heavily armed soldiers.

After reaching their destination, they quietly exited the vehicle and headed toward Banner's home.

They moved in complete silence, demonstrating the precision of a highly trained special forces unit.

After neutralizing a few stray dogs with tranquilizers, they arrived at Banner's front door. However, they didn't rush in.

According to General Ross's intel, the target was a highly dangerous individual responsible for the deaths of two professors and over a dozen researchers. He was also wanted for treason.

Yet oddly, General Ross had insisted on capturing him alive.

Despite their confusion, as soldiers, their duty was to follow orders, so they proceeded cautiously.

Using a miniature camera, they slid it under the door to survey the room.

They saw someone lying on the bed, likely the target.

Before they could take a closer look, a small dog came over and bit the camera, forcing them to withdraw.

With confirmation that Banner was in bed, they placed a TNT charge on the door lock.

"Boom!"

The TNT exploded, and they stormed in, spraying the bed with bullets.

But when they pulled back the covers, all they found were pillows.

The target was gone!

In the black van, General Ross's face darkened as he watched the live footage.

It seemed things wouldn't go as smoothly as he'd hoped.

Initially, out of consideration for his daughter, he wanted to capture Banner alive. But now, it seemed impossible.

"The target has fled."

The voice of Emil Blonsky, the elite unit's leader, crackled in Ross's earpiece.

"Where did he go?"

Blonsky opened the kitchen window and saw a rope still swaying outside. He knew the target hadn't gotten far.

"Move, fast!"
