"Everyone, calm down. Since we've already entered a Reincarnation World, there's no turning back. Crying won't do us any good. The most important thing now is to survive in this world." The muscular young man stepped into the center of the group, raising his voice.
The short-haired, fit young man looked to be in his early twenties, wearing a white T-shirt. His body, standing over 190 centimeters tall and visibly strong, made it clear that he was someone with physical prowess.
Perhaps because of his ability to bring a sense of security, everyone in the group, except for Yukino, instinctively focused their attention on him. This gave the muscular young man a position of leadership.
Seeing this, the brown-haired boy's expression changed slightly. Unwilling to be outdone, he stepped into the center with a cheerful smile on his handsome face, drawing a bright look from the girl with the flashy appearance.
"This friend is right. As long as we work together, we'll make it back home safely."
He scanned the group, and when his gaze fell on Yukino, it lingered for a second before discreetly shifting away.
Then his smile faded, and his expression turned serious.
"I think we've all received the task information, haven't we?" the brown-haired boy pointed to his head. "My task is to survive in this Reincarnation World for 30 days and kill at least 30 'corpses.'"
"Yes, I have the same task," the flashy girl quickly chimed in, her face showing a hint of confusion. "I understand the surviving for 30 days part, but what exactly are these 'corpses'?"
"Yeah, my task is the same as well," said the stubbled middle-aged man, who had calmed down from his earlier panic. As an adult, he had a better grip on his emotions.
Hearing this, the others nodded slightly, confirming the middle-aged man's statement.
"If we have to survive for a month, it means this world definitely isn't as peaceful as it looks now," the brown-haired boy said, glancing around at the seemingly tranquil school. His face showed a hint of seriousness. "'Corpses' should be the monsters of this world. Next, we need to gather information about this world and figure out what the 'corpses' really are."
No one opposed his suggestion, as they all needed to kill 30 corpses to complete their tasks. If they didn't gather enough information, they wouldn't even know how they might die.
"Ugh, isn't the Lord God's Dimension going to give us any hints?" the haughty girl, who looked like a wealthy young lady, said with a disdainful expression.
"We can deal with that later. Let's introduce ourselves first and mention any skills we might have," the brown-haired boy interrupted her complaints. "I'll start. My name is Taiyo Oga, I'm a high school student, and I'm pretty good at baseball. I'm confident in my stamina."
The timid black-haired boy suddenly raised his hand, speaking up shyly, "Um… my name is Makoto Itou, I'm also a first-year high school student, and I guess I'm good at cooking."
"Haha, then we'll count on you to handle the food, Itou-kun," Taiyo said, laughing heartily as he patted Makoto's shoulder.
"Sure, leave it to me," Makoto replied with a shy smile. Taiyo's friendly demeanor reminded him of his best friend, Taisuke.
Makoto couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity with Taiyo, which made him like him more.
The others soon followed with their introductions. The muscular young man was a member of their school's basketball team, specializing in speed and explosive strength. His stamina was also impressive, given that he could play a full game of basketball at a high intensity.
As for the flashy girl and the wealthy young lady, they didn't have any skills that would be particularly useful in their current situation, and the same went for the stubbled man and two other men and women.
Soon, it was just Yukino and the blonde girl left to introduce themselves.
"My name is Kei Karuizawa, and as for any special skills, I'm sorry, I don't really have anything noteworthy," the blonde girl said, rubbing her head in embarrassment.
The men in the group didn't seem to mind, though, as the cute blonde girl had a pretty face, only slightly overshadowed by Yukino's.
However, compared to Yukino's cool and elegant aura, Kei Karuizawa had a much more fiery and lively vibe. The black-haired boy, Makoto Itou, glanced at Kei and Yukino with a look of hidden desire in his eyes.
When it was Yukino's turn, Taiyo Oga seized the opportunity to approach her, flashing what he thought was his most charming smile.
"Hey, it's your turn," he said.
Yukino gave Taiyo a cold glance, immediately seeing through his intentions. She had always kept people like him at arm's length, disinterested in such advances.
As for the others, Yukino had already assessed them during their introductions. Aside from the athletic young man and Taiyo, the rest wouldn't be much help in their tasks, and some might even be liabilities.
However, since she didn't know the true nature of these "corpses" or how strong they were, it was still an unknown factor. Despite her low opinion of the group's abilities, Yukino decided to stick with them for now. After all, there was strength in numbers.
Finally, Yukino spoke her first words since entering the Lord God's Dimension.
"My name is Yukinoshita Yukino. I specialize in kendo."
Hearing this, Kei Karuizawa's eyes lit up again. She couldn't help but think, "I was right! She's definitely someone powerful. My chances of surviving will be higher if I stick with her."
Meanwhile, Taiyo Oga, staring at Yukino's flawless face up close, felt his desire surge even more.
"Wow, Yukino-san, you're skilled in kendo? That's amazing! I'm sure with my stamina and your sword skills, we can work together to lead everyone to complete this task."
"There's no need. I'll decide what to do on my own. Also, we're not that close, so don't call me by my first name," Yukino replied coldly.
Despite Yukino's chilly attitude, Taiyo didn't seem the least bit offended. He kept his sunny smile plastered on his face.
"Sorry about that, Yukinoshita-san, I misspoke."
Watching this exchange, the flashy girl couldn't help but feel annoyed. She glared at Yukino's delicate figure with jealousy in her eyes and said, "Hey, are you sure you really know kendo? You're not just boasting, are you? Giving us the wrong information will only get us all killed."
Her gaze was filled with strong jealousy. From the moment they entered the Lord God's Dimension, she had noticed Yukino's stunning appearance, and her envy had been growing ever since. Now, seeing Taiyo fawning over Yukino made her jealousy even worse.
"Is it your place to question me? Only those who are weak and ugly would try to push others down out of envy," Yukino said calmly, her gaze unshaken.
Her sharp words hit the flashy girl right in her insecurities, making her suddenly lose control.
"Who are you calling weak and ugly? You think you're so pretty?"
"Of course. I am very beautiful," Yukino replied without hesitation.
Her unabashed confidence left the others momentarily stunned. While no one could deny Yukino's extreme beauty, the fact that she openly boasted about it made them all do a double-take.
At this point, the others had no choice but to intervene, trying to smooth over the conflict before it caused any serious friction within the group.
The situation soon settled, and the group began discussing their next steps.
After some time, a sudden broadcast rang through the campus. Standing on the rooftop of the school building, the group clearly heard the announcement.
"To all students, please be advised: a violent incident is occurring on campus. Please follow the instructions of your teachers and seek shelter immediately. I repeat—"
The broadcast was abruptly cut off by a piercing scream, followed by a terrified shriek from the broadcaster. Then, the radio went silent.
Moments later, the once quiet school descended into chaos. The sounds of screaming, running, and panic spread throughout the campus.
"What's going on? Did the 'corpses' attack?"
Hearing the broadcast and the ensuing turmoil, the group of new Reincarnators began to panic. They were far from ready for this.
Suddenly, a scream rang out from nearby. The rich young lady had somehow found her way to the edge of the balcony and was pointing down below, her body trembling in fear.
"Z-Zombies!"
Her words sent a wave of shock through the group, their faces turning pale. Even Yukino's expression changed.
Everyone had come from modern worlds, and even if they hadn't seen zombie movies, they had at least heard of zombies. They rushed to the edge of the balcony, looking down at the school and the surrounding area. There, they saw countless figures moving in strange, jerky motions. These figures, covered in blood, wandered aimlessly, attacking anyone still alive.
Blood, organs, and severed limbs littered the campus grounds.
Most of the group had never even seen a dead body before, so their faces turned deathly white. Several of the more fragile members immediately collapsed to the ground, vomiting uncontrollably.
Even Yukino's face turned pale, her body trembling slightly. It took her a while to regain her composure.
At that moment, the mechanical voice echoed in their minds once again.
"The plot of 'Highschool of the Dead' has officially begun. Survive in this apocalyptic world for 30 days, and kill at least 30 corpses to successfully escape this world.
Note: You will receive one Reincarnation Point for each corpse killed. There is no upper limit.
Newcomer benefit: As a first-time Reincarnator, you may select one weapon (limited to cold weapons)."
"Damn it, so this is a zombie apocalypse, and the 'corpses' are zombies," Taiyo cursed, his expression no longer as calm as before.
Surviving 30 days in a world full of zombies was no easy task, let alone escaping the school, which had now become a danger zone. One bite from a zombie, and you were done for. This was hell.
The others weren't doing much better. The flashy girl who had argued with Yukino earlier was now curled up in a corner, crying uncontrollably.
Makoto Itou wasn't much better, completely unable to accept the situation.
The muscular young man, too, was drenched in cold sweat, his earlier confidence long gone.
Yukino, having steadied herself, frowned as she looked at the group of rookie Reincarnators. If they stayed like this, none of them would survive the day.
With a firm grip on the katana she had chosen from the weapon selection offered by the mechanical voice, Yukino stepped into the center of the group.
Drawing her sword, she spoke coldly, "Rather than cowering here and waiting to die, it's better to arm yourselves and fight. Fighting may still lead to death, but at least it gives you a chance to live."
Without waiting for a response, she turned and headed toward the exit of the rooftop. A few zombies had already been attracted by the rich girl's earlier scream.
Kei Karuizawa, having just recovered from vomiting, bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, and then chose a katana as well. She hurried to catch up with Yukino.
Seeing Yukino's cool demeanor and radiating presence, Taiyo's desire and obsession with her grew even stronger. He quickly grabbed a baseball bat and followed after her without sparing a glance at the others.
The muscular young man, the rich young lady, and the two other Reincarnators with lesser presence, snapped out of their negative states thanks to Yukino's words and chose their weapons.
"That little girl is right. We're going to die anyway, but at least let's fight for our lives," muttered the stubbled middle-aged man, who had sunk into despair earlier. He stood up, selecting his weapon, and then helped the still-crying flashy girl and Makoto Itou to their feet.
"Come on, kid. Don't give up so easily. You're young—you've still got a long life ahead of you," he said gently, urging them to pick up their weapons and follow the others toward Yukino's group.
