Capítulo 18: First Day of School!

One Week Later

Early September 2007

The first rays of sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the manor, casting a warm glow across the marble floors. Kayn sat in the kitchen, sipping his coffee as he flipped through the pages of a local newspaper.

The headlines spoke of National City's thriving economy, its bustling tech sector, and the usual array of political scandals. Nothing of note really appeared.

Kayn had spent the past week preparing everything for his future life. He would be spending the foreseeable future in National City, so everything needed to be in place. Kayn also investigated the crime scene in National City.

Of course he would be a Hero in public, but he had his own style of doing things. The truly irredeemable villains, brutal murderers, rapists, terrorists etc, he would silently kill most of them, while still remaining a public hero arresting the smaller time villains.

While Kayn was a fan of Batman in his past life and most of the Justice League, he didn't fully agree with the methods they take. To him, although certain villains can indeed be rehabilitated, some villains, for example the Joker, should just be killed lest they hurt many more people.

Thus, when Kayn meets anyone he regards irredeemable, or to have done irredeemable things, he'd definitely kill them now that he had his own territory in National City.

For any villains who weren't worthy of being killed but still had SuperHuman Power, Kayn already tasked members of AEGIS, his organization, to engineer a design for a SuperHuman prison, and Magic-Enchanted Technology that could suppress these people.

He wouldn't be like Batman, sending these people into normal prisons to eventually break out effortlessly and then create more havoc, kill more people, and shatter more lives. No...Kayn would lock them up for good.

Naturally, the funding for this prison would also come from AEGIS's public facing business, which in turn would improve the public's perception of Kayn, who would eventually expose himself as it's public owner when ready.

Of course to do this, Kayn needed to continuously improve his strength. He had spent any extra time over the course of the previous week immersed in Merlin's Book of Magic, learning any and everything he could in that short span of time.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway, pulling Kayn from his thoughts. He looked up as Violet entered the kitchen, her hair still damp from a shower.

"Morning," she greeted him with a small smile, reaching for a glass of orange juice. "How'd you sleep?"

Kayn shrugged, setting down the newspaper. "Well, it's always nice to recharge mentally. First Day of School after all, are you excited?"

Violet sat in the seat with a smile, her usually cold persona only defrosted around Kayn and her other closest friends, "Yep. I've watched so much shows and movies about High School, it's gonna be an amazing 2 years."

Kayn chuckled and just responded with a smile, "Just don't get too disappointed. Also don't worry about bullies, Francis donated equipment towards all of the school's sports teams in our name. Most student's won't know, but just call a teacher and they'll handle everything. We don't want to bully random kids with our power."

Violet chuckled with a playful frown, "Not even a little bit? What if they reeaaallyyyy deserve it? Can't even toy with them playfully?"

"Don't go overboard." Kayn just said and finished his cup of coffee, and they continued to talk for a little while before getting ready for school.

____________________________

The sun shone brightly over National City as the yellow school buses rolled down the suburban streets, ferrying students to their first day of the new school year. The air buzzed with the nervous excitement that accompanies fresh starts—new classes, new faces, and for some, a new school entirely.

Among the flood of students entering National City High, one student particularly stood out.

Kayn was moving throughout the flood of students as he made his way towards the school, trying to make his way into the freshman orientation, yet there was still a large amount of attention on him.

He was wearing some casual clothes, just a tailor made jeans with a sweater and a coat with a formal business bag strapped across his shoulder.

The first part that made Kayn stand out was his height, standing at 6'3 as a high school freshman wasn't completely unseen, but was not something students saw often.

The second thing that attracted people to Kayn was his look, his lean, yet firm athletic build, his enchanting purple eyes clad with golden glasses, purple hair and his charming yet dignified demeanor that suggested someone noble.

Kayn didn't come to school to be some nobody. Of course, he would become popular, use his popularity to his advantages to forge connections and get his public persona out there.

Comparatively, although Violet didn't dress herself down, she certainly didn't dress up. Her beauty still caught eyes, but much less when compared to Kayn's attractiveness and temperament.

Finally they had entered the school. National City Technical High School, the best public school in the entire City.

Ones that attended this school either had rich families or had excellent grades that allowed them to succeed. The school was connected to National City Technical Middle School, which allowed students to move up.

The school itself was an imposing structure, having multiple buildings, ranging from Science Buildings for Laboratory Classes, a large field for American Football, European Football ( Soccer ) and other sports, a library and many more.

The main building was four stories tall with red-brick walls and large windows that reflected the morning sun. The hallways was filled with students, some chatting in groups, some by themselves listening to music. The sound of laughter and conversation filled the air.

Some students looked towards Kayn and Violet, admiring their appearances as they stood out, but most students still had their own business, and didn't have time to gawk at a random dude and girl.

Kayn and Violet eventually found their way to the auditorium where he spotted various other Freshmen, finding his seat and waiting patiently.

On the auditorium's stage, a large banner was strung up that read,

"Welcome, Freshmen!" in bold, colorful letters.

At 8:00 AM sharp, the school's principal, Ms. Jacobs, stepped up to a small podium that had been set up near the entrance. She was a tall woman with short-cropped gray hair and a warm, approachable smile.

Her presence immediately commanded attention, and gradually, the crowd of freshmen quieted down.

"Good morning, everyone, and welcome to National City Technical High!" Ms. Jacobs began, her voice amplified by a microphone. "I'm Principal Jacobs, and it's my pleasure to officially welcome you to your first day as high school students!"

There was a smattering of applause from the gathered students, though the majority of the freshmen looked more anxious than enthusiastic.

"I know that starting high school can be both exciting and a little overwhelming," Ms. Jacobs continued, "but that's why we've organized today's orientation. We want to help you feel comfortable and confident as you embark on this new chapter of your lives."

She paused, letting her words sink in before she began explaining the schedule for the day.

"Today's orientation is all about getting to know your new school, meeting some of your teachers and classmates, and learning about the many opportunities available to you here at National City Technical High. We've organized a variety of activities to help you get familiar with our campus, and there will be plenty of upperclassmen on hand to answer any questions you might have."

Ms. Jacobs then introduced the school's student council president, a poised junior named Lily Martinez, a senior on her final year. Lily stepped up to the podium, beaming with confidence.

"Hey, everyone! I'm Lily, and on behalf of the student council, I just want to say how excited we are to have you here. High school is an amazing experience, and we're here to make sure you have all the support you need to make the most of it."

Lily went on to describe the orientation activities planned for the day, including a campus tour, icebreaker games, and a series of informational sessions where students could learn about clubs, sports teams, and other extracurricular activities.

She also mentioned a special Q&A panel where freshmen could ask upperclassmen anything about high school life.

"Before we dive into the fun stuff," Lily said with a grin, "we're going to start with something important—getting you all your class schedules and locker assignments."

With that, the freshmen were divided into smaller groups, each led by a senior or junior guide wearing bright-colored "Orientation Leader" T-shirts.

Kayn and Violet, along with the other freshmen, were ushered into the school's main building where they were led down the labyrinthine halls that would soon become all too familiar.

The hallways of National City High were lined with freshly decorated bulletin boards advertising various clubs, sports teams, and upcoming events.

Some of the upperclassmen stood by their lockers, watching the new students with a mixture of amusement and nostalgia, remembering their own freshman orientation days not so long ago.

Kayn and Violet's group stopped at a table set up in one of the main corridors where several teachers were distributing class schedules and locker assignments. Kayn received his schedule first, quickly scanning it to see which classes he had and where they were located.

Violet did the same, noting that their lockers were in the same general area—a small relief in the vastness of the school.

The group then went on a tour, stopping at various points of interest. They were shown the main office, where administrative tasks were handled, the nurse's office, the library with its impressive collection of books and study spaces, and the cafeteria, which was already bustling with activity as the kitchen staff prepared for the lunch rush.

Kayn and Violet both made mental notes of the layout, keenly aware of how important it was to know the school inside and out—not just for getting to class on time, but for any events that potentially happened at the school.

After around another 20 minutes of miscellaneous stuff, the orientation finally finished.

Author's Note:

So I decided to go with AEGIS for the Organization name, thanks to the reader who suggested it.

Now, what would people like Kayn's SuperHero costume to look like. I was thinking a Moon-Knight style costume, but purple & black and without the mask, since Kayn's identity is protected by the glasses.

However, give me other suggestions for his Costume, I want more ideas!

Thanks for Reading!
