Inside the room where Jacquelyn had been resting, Kael sat in the same position, but this time, his eyes were open. He stared blankly at the spot where the girl had been sleeping earlier. He had seen her fall from the couch and land on the floor but he pretended to be asleep, curious about her reaction.
Kael had expected her to try and harm him. He was used to humans taking advantage of what they believed to be his vulnerability. So foolish in their acts, humans. He sighed. Even though Jacquelyn had proven harmless, Kael still had his doubts. He had lived among humans long enough to know they never changed.
