Kael appeared first in Herschel's room, where the old man was reading a book by the light of a small candle.
"I brought a witch," Kael said with a dry tone, dropping Griselda on the nearest bed. "Keep her alive, for now."
Kael stretched his body, looking around the room until he found a cup of water. "You said I might be able to find something to revoke the mark in that tacky human house they call a palace." He gulped down the water, then grimaced with distaste.
"I should pay them a visit."
Herschel stood up from his chair, removing his monocle. "Who is—" His question was left hanging because, in the next moment, Kael disappeared.
Meanwhile, back in the forest, Jacquelyn curled herself up against a tree, waiting anxiously for Kael to return. She wasn't sure why she had trusted him with Griselda's safety. What if he took her far away to kill her, then returned and claimed she was safe?
