Capítulo 4: The Stalker

"Ah, I'm bleeding."

Asher didn't know what to think, he didn't even feel the wound. When did he get cut?

Looking down on his shirt he saw the ripped shirt and the mangled flesh underneath it. It looked like he had been ripped apart by an axe.

Asher's hand instictively covered his wound with his hands, his warm blood burned his hands.

<A-am I going to die? Already? No, this isn't, it can't, I'm not..."

He couldn't think straight, was this it, was this how he was going to die? He looked behind him again and there he saw his pursuer. It stood atleast five meters tall. The monster was like a roughly humanoid black mist with something solid hiding inside it. It's torso was hazy and shapeless with whisps of black mist whisking off its body from the wind. It had no legs but had many grotesque limbs streaching out in all directions. Solid, bone-like, and disfigured. It just hovered there slowly drifting closer into the light.

Asher fell, down. No longer able to stand. His legs lost all strength and he couldn't breathe. Asher tried to stand but his legs became completely unresponsive. The cold air was like a harbinger of death, enveloping him whole and cutting into his lungs. Asher found himself laying in the snow defenseless, hurt, and bleeding. The monster watched him with it's dark holes that it had for eyes and lowered itself as if crouching down brushing the snow with its many hands. It's face was mere centimeters from Asher. He could see the empty sockets it had for eyes, the abyssal darkness dwelling inside. Then Asher paled, all the blood left his face. The monster opened it's mouth, and smiled at him revealing hundreds of teeth. The monster began to tremble and wheezed in front of him. Was it laughing at me? Was the monster mocking him? It suddenly began to make sense. This creature had ripped open his stomach without him even knowing. If it wanted, Asher would have been dead already. It was playing with its food. Nothing Asher did mattered to the creature, it let me run away, it let me get away because it thought it could easily kill me whenever.

Asher was overwhelmed with dread, he couldn't think, no thoughts could form. He could only understand one thing, he was going to die. His mind drew blank. The adrenaline pumped through him and Asher thought about his life. He remembered how he lived that life.

Asher had never bothered being honest with himself, but now it was so clear. He had never tried. He wasted his life. He could have been so much more, but he didn't. He settled for average because it was easy. Because it was convenient. When everyone was trying to prepare during school, he settled for average. Asher never studied and never prepared himself for his future. Was it because he couldn't? No. Asher knew he could have done better. He knew he could have gotten better than living paycheck to paycheck, but he didn't. Did he really want to live that way, was that his dream? His goal? To be some poor bastard one step away from living on the streets? That's what he always did, accept life as it was and continued being some sorry, pitiful bastard even when the voice came and changed the world. Well he was done with that, for once in his life, he was going to try to change. He wasn't going to accept death He was going to struggle and squirm. He will cling to life as desperately as he can. He wanted to do everything he could.

Before Asher knew what he was doing, his arm shot forward like a bullet and stabbed deep into the monsters eye. He could feel the mist around the monster like a subtle pressure on his arm but he could feel the resistance of bone and flesh inside. The creature flinched backwards and shrieked. In a panic, it flailed it's limbs at Asher at break neck speed. Asher didn't dodge. He just pulled himself closer to the monster trying to inflict as much pain as possible. He caught brief glimpses of red blood splattering in the air along with his mangled flesh and bones. He was scared and fearful for his life. Looking at himself being ripped apart, he knew death was waiting for him. It was terrifying watching something that should be part of him, detached from his body. The arms broke past his skin and deep into his body. Each blow was immensely powerful. Each arm hit with the strength of a car and he noticed his joints were falling apart with each blow.

Groaning, Asher stabbed deeper and some dark liquid began pouring out of its eye. The monster howled and stood up. It thrashed him around like a rag doll, spinning Asher meters above the ground. Asher desperately held onto the bones inside the monster's skull and held on for as long as possible. The monster rose high into the sky and slammed him into the ground violently making Asher cough up blood. He could taste the iron in his mouth and could see the state of his body as it was buried in the now blood red snow.

Even if Asher killed the monster he was not making it out alive. In fact he didn't even know how he was still alive. Asher was missing an arm, a leg, and in his torso, Asher could see very clearly that he had been completely disemboweled. He knew that he wouldn't have been able to do all of this if it weren't for the strange freezing air. The air felt magical in a way. It seemed that it didn't only take his warmth, but also dulled his senses and numbed his body. Since he couldn't feel at all, he could continue even past the limits of his frail body. Knowing this, he took advantage of it. Pulling his face closer, he bit into the skin of the monster. It's skin was rough and durable like stone. It resisted him but Asher just bit down harder. He pulled as hard as he could until he felt the flesh give in. It tasted sour and vile but also incredibly sweet.

"How do like that you bastard? Still think this is all fun and games? I'll fucking kill you!"

Asher didn't know what he was saying, his mind was fading. He felt dizzy and tired and everything was turning dark very quickly.

"So, this is it. This is how my life ends?"

something spoke into his ear but he couldn't hear it.

Then everything went black.
