Capítulo 17: Chapter 17 Help Needed

"Stop." Blanche's father spoke with authority, his voice carrying a sense of solemnity.

Allen halted his steps. "What is it? Do you need something?"

"Impudent!" Blanche's father exclaimed sharply. "Is this how you speak to your father?"

Allen laughed mockingly. "Father? I thought you didn't know you were my father. But what's the point of bringing that up now? Where were you before?"

Blanche's father's expression hardened, and he stood up, with Leslie quickly supporting him.

"You've really grown wings now; you don't listen to anything I say! This was all a misunderstanding, let's not dwell on that… That woman abandoned you for money, and you still want to find her? Are you trying to ruin the Smith family's reputation?!"

Allen shrugged dismissively. "Am I the one ruining the Smith family's reputation?"

"You… cough, cough…" Blanche's father was so enraged that he started coughing.

Leslie quickly soothed him, "Uncle, take care of yourself, don't get angry."

"It's fine…" Blanche's father said gently. He had a good opinion of Leslie, after all; she was the future daughter-in-law of the Smith family and had been endorsed by him, so how could he be unsatisfied?

"If it weren't for Leslie telling me that you still have feelings for that woman, I wouldn't have believed you would do all this," Blanche's father slammed a document down in front of him. "Look at how many people are gossiping about your ridiculous actions. You've wasted so much energy and resources trying to find that vain woman. What will others say about you? What will they say about our Smith family?!"

Allen gave a faint smile, dismissing the rumors as nothing worth his attention. Besides… this was probably news that Leslie had spread herself.

His gaze fell on Leslie, who trembled slightly and quickly lowered her head.

She had been closely watching Allen's every move, and when she realized he didn't believe her words, she took action. The entire Smith family disliked Blanche, and if Blanche's father found out that Allen was looking for her, he would definitely scold him and push for a quick marriage between her and Allen, which would be very beneficial for her.

After all, Blanche's father was quite pleased with her.

"The Smith family is often the subject of gossip, isn't it? Compared to you, what does this matter to me…" Allen said coldly.

The mockery on his face was laced with cruelty and hatred, leaving Blanche's father momentarily speechless. However, he really didn't want to see Allen making a fuss over this woman. The Smith family had always held themselves above others; to be embroiled in scandal over a vain and profit-driven woman would only invite ridicule.

"This matter ends here. I know that woman is having your child, so I can take a step back. As long as you bring the child back, we can let the past be the past. But if you want to be with that woman, it's absolutely impossible! The only daughter-in-law I recognize for the Smith family is Leslie. Our families are well-matched; it couldn't be more suitable, and the outside world is optimistic about it. You two should marry soon, and I will personally oversee the arrangements."

Leslie felt a surge of joy in her heart. As expected, bringing Blanche's father into the conversation was effective. He knew about the past between Blanche and Allen and strongly disliked Blanche. Once he spoke up, Allen would definitely not dare to say "no."

But Allen was not someone who could be easily suppressed. He snorted coldly and said with disdain, "Do you think I'm a three-year-old? That I'll just do whatever you say?"

"You!" Blanche's father could no longer contain his anger. In the past, Allen had indeed been difficult to discipline, but at least he wouldn't confront him directly. Now, with his newfound confidence, he was openly opposing him.

"You are a Davis! Everything you have is given to you by the Smith family! Allen, if you don't listen to me, does that mean you don't regard me as your father and don't consider yourself a member of the Smith family?"

Blanche's father shouldn't have said that, but once he did, the shadows in Allen's eyes deepened. "Smith family? The Feng family?" Allen's tone was icy. "I thought my surname was Yang… After all, if it weren't for the Carter family intervening, how could the Smith family have grown so large?"

Mentioning the Carter family caused a change in Blanche's father's expression; he seemed reluctant to bring it up. This was his pain and the source of the conflict between him and Allen.

Seeing that the two had reached a stalemate, Leslie quickly interjected, "Actually… we can sit down and talk this through. It's a simple matter to resolve. Allen, you wouldn't want to upset your father, would you? He's getting older and isn't in good health…"

Leslie shot Allen a glance, but Allen hated seeing her act like this—playing the good person while being deaf and dumb. It was all her doing.

"You're not even married into the Smith family yet; this isn't appropriate," Allen said.

Leslie's face turned awkward, and she looked to Blanche's father for help, but he was so furious that he couldn't speak, let alone assist Leslie.

"The matters of the Smith family are not for outsiders to meddle in, and my affairs don't need others to discuss. Leslie, if you want to escalate this situation and put it in the public eye, I can help you with that. I'll expose everything you've done before, so everyone can indulge in their gossip."

Leslie's pupils dilated in fear. She had a lot of dark history, especially during the time Allen left the Smith family when she had sought out other men… At that time, she thought Allen had lost his value and didn't want to waste time on him. Now that he was back on top, she certainly wanted to seize the opportunity, believing that no one knew about her past…

"Allen, what are you saying? I've always had you in my heart. If you want to find your child, of course, I respect that…" Leslie feigned a smile.

Allen glanced at her and turned his head away. He despised such opportunistic women. Even if she sought out the Smith family, so what? Allen had long since freed himself from their control.

"Is there anything else?" Allen asked. "If not, I'm leaving."

Without waiting for Blanche's father to respond, he headed upstairs. Blanche's father trembled with rage. "This ungrateful son… ungrateful!"

Leslie quickly comforted him, "Uncle, don't be angry. Allen is just momentarily infatuated with that woman; he will understand in time."

Although Blanche's father was Allen's father, the Smith family affairs were now all in Allen's hands. Many matters were no longer his concern. Thinking about how his son was opposing him like this made him feel cold inside. He clung to Leslie as a lifeline, saying, "Leslie, it's up to you to win back Allen's heart."

Blanche's father spoke wearily, "Back then, there was a misunderstanding between me and Allen's mother, which involved Allen. That's why he harbors resentment towards me and the Smith family. But my intentions were good. What parent in the world doesn't care about their own child? I can forgive him for straying for a time, but he absolutely cannot be with that woman. Leslie, you must win back Allen's heart. You're a good child, and our Smith family recognizes you."

Blanche's father hoped that Leslie and Allen would be together, believing that only Leslie could mend Allen's resentful and aggrieved heart.

Seeing how much Blanche's father liked her, Leslie felt a boost in her confidence.

"Uncle, don't worry. I will definitely be with Allen, and in the future, I will honor you together with him," Leslie said.

Blanche's father nodded in satisfaction. As long as that woman didn't enter the Smith family, he would be content.

Blanche took Jason to a nearby well-regarded kindergarten, which had good educational resources and a capable faculty. Blanche valued this highly, but there was a small issue with enrollment.

Because Blanche was not a local in Miami, she needed to provide valid identification and the information of the child's father for enrollment. The school placed great importance on quality education, and while Blanche met the requirements, the issue lay with the father…

Blanche felt a headache coming on. Although she had stated that she was divorced from the child's father, for the sake of safety, she still needed to provide that information, which was a bit challenging for her.

After all, she was a "fugitive." If she mentioned Allen, wouldn't he immediately come looking for her?

Miami wasn't Allen's territory, but he still had some influence there, and Blanche was genuinely worried.

Just as she was feeling stuck, Felix approached her.

Felix had been quite concerned about Blanche. Even though she said they would meet again if fate allowed, Felix didn't want that. Most of Miami was his territory, and he could easily find Blanche and Jason. Besides, he and Jason were friends, so it wouldn't be a problem to meet.

"Shirley, long time no see," Felix pretended to run into Blanche at a café on the corner.

Seeing Felix, Blanche greeted him lightly.

"What's wrong? You look unhappy to see me," Felix said.

"I'm not unhappy; I'm just troubled by some things," Blanche replied.

"What things?"

Blanche initially thought about telling Felix that she had no friends here and only knew him, but the words caught in her throat.

Don't get involved with a married man…

"It's nothing, just a bit unaccustomed to life here," Blanche said.

"What's there to be unaccustomed to?" Felix laughed. "Everyone is very friendly, and… I can take care of you too."
