Capítulo 72: Chapter 72: Dreams and Vipers

Rainy Day sighed in his heart and took a sip symbolically. Then the smell of alcohol made him cough: "Cough cough cough——"

It took him a while to come back to his senses and let out a breath. He really hated liquor.

"Ha, I told you not to drink often, you made a fool of yourself!" The tent keeper patted him hard, "Men have to drink, practice more and you will get used to it."

On rainy days, he would cough from time to time: "Ahem... I don't plan to practice this."

The tent guard was a little annoyed when he heard this: "Humph, you still think drinking is harmful? Wine is obviously made from grain, it is the essence of grain, how can it be harmful!"

"Maybe, but at least I'm not suitable for drinking." Rainy Day said.

The tent guard picked up the wine bag, took another big gulp of the liquor, and burped a few times: "Burp..."

As he drank more and more liquor, the drunken look on his face became more and more intense, his speech became unclear, and his emotions gradually became unstable, with ups and downs.

Sometimes he waved the wine bag in his hand and shouted at the dancing tribesmen, and sometimes he stared silently at the flickering bonfire, lost in thought, not knowing what he was thinking.

Rainy Day watched his condition and thought the time was right, so he said carefully: "Big Chief, have you ever experienced the war with the Comanches?"

"What nonsense are you talking about... burp! You're drunk after just one sip of wine?" The tent guard burped again, "But I'm not drunk, not at all."

"So I know that the war between the Apache and Comanche took place more than 60,000 years ago. Oh no, it was more than 60 years ago. How could I have experienced it? Even my father may not have experienced it. I just heard some stories from my grandfather."

"Besides, the ones fighting the Comanches were mainly the Mescalero tribe, and we didn't participate much..."

The two chatted about the history of the Apache and Comanche Wars.

In fact, it can't be called chatting, it was almost all talking by those guarding the tent. People tend to become more talkative after getting drunk.

"...The Comanches were once a brave people. In that battle, they defeated us." The tent guard picked up the wine bag and poured it into his mouth, but unfortunately it was empty.

"Give me another bag of wine!" he ordered his tribesmen.

However, the party was over by then and the tribesmen had gone back to rest. He could only stagger to his feet, grab a bag of wine and sit back down.

He continued drinking, then laughed, "But the Comanches were later defeated by the Arapaho, and we defeated the Arapaho, haha!"

There was a moment of silence on a rainy day: "The Comanches must hate us."

"That's right." The tent guard agreed.

Rainy Day added: "In that case, could it be that the Comanche people of the Forest Tribe are lying to us? I mean... maybe the Sleeping Bear Clan didn't annex the Twin Wolf Clan?"

"If there is no, then there is no, who knows." The tent guard said indifferently.

When Yutian heard this, his heart suddenly tightened.

These light words undoubtedly revealed a terrible fact, or a fact that he had long realized but was unwilling to admit - the tent guard did not care about the truth at all.

All the guards wanted was a reason, a reason to deal with the horse whistle.

He still had hope: "I think we should check it out first, in case we misunderstood Ma Shao..."

"Misunderstanding?" The tent keeper seemed to be enraged and threw the wineskin to the ground. "What misunderstanding is there! He betrayed me, he let the Arapaho go, and he stopped me from avenging my son!"

As he spoke, his hair was disheveled and a strong smell of alcohol seemed to be gushing out from his hair.

His eyes were wide open, bloodshot, and he looked straight at the rainy day and roared, "Why do you always speak for this bastard? Do you still remember my son? He treats you as his own brother, but you don't want to avenge him at all!"

"I once thought…" Rainy day lowered his head.

"Yes, once!" the tent guard continued, "Back then you said you wanted to go to the east, and I let you go. But after you came back, you seemed like a different person. You almost forgot your beloved brother and our hatred! After you met that Ma Shao, you forgot everything completely!"

"I just have a dream that is more worth pursuing." I tried to suppress my emotions on a rainy day, but I couldn't help feeling a lump in my throat and my eyes quickly turned red.

"What dream? You've forgotten the most important thing!" The tent guard was panting. "I made the wrong decision. I shouldn't have let you go to the east, shouldn't have brought you to the battlefield, shouldn't have let you meet Ma Shao, and shouldn't have let that Ma Shao go! But I won't do that this time!"

Rainy Day suddenly looked up, but was choked with sobs and couldn't say anything immediately.

By the time he broke free from his sobs, the tent guard had already turned and left.

The drunken chief staggered with every step, but fortunately the tent was right next to him, so he was able to walk along the tent, roll up the curtain and go in to have a rest.

It was late at night and Yutian was the only one left.

The bonfire had long been extinguished, but fortunately there was still a moon in the sky, so he could look at the ashes in the darkness in silence for a long time.

He even tried to drink some more wine in the hope of numb himself, but he could not stand the taste of the strong liquor and threw away the wine bag in pain.

After a long time, a tiny sound broke the silence of the night.

"Clatter, clatter..."

The sound was almost imperceptible, but it made Rainy Day shudder. He quickly stood up and looked around.

As a hunting people who often deal with the wild, the Apaches have an instinctive reaction to this sound.

That's the sound of a rattlesnake!

The rattlesnake is the most dangerous venomous snake in North America. Those who fail to be vigilant against it are now dead.

It seemed as if the rainy day suddenly remembered something, and it quickly followed the sound and soon found the location of the rattlesnake.

A rattlesnake stalks across the grass.

Looking at this terrible poisonous snake, Rainy Day's expression changed, filled with struggle and pain.

When the rattlesnake was about to disappear from his sight, he finally made a decision.

He quickly found a long wooden stick, used it to press down the rattlesnake's head, then strangled the snake's neck with one hand and held the snake's tail with the other hand to catch the whole snake.

"Huh..." Rainy Day looked at the poisonous snake in his hand and let out a long breath.

Then he turned around, looked at the chief's tent with red eyes, then gritted his teeth, walked over and entered.

The tent guard was lying on the ground near the tent entrance, soundly asleep, unconscious, and the smell of alcohol was everywhere.

"Chief, I'm sorry..." He squatted down in the rain, his voice trembling.

The man guarding the tent was still sleeping soundly, snoring loudly, but the alcohol in his blood made it impossible for him to be awakened by his snoring.

The rainy day continued to murmur, both narrating and monologue: "Perhaps you will never understand what I have experienced in the outside world. When I learned about the strength of the white people and our weakness, I knew that Tecumseh was right... My dream was to defeat the Arapaho for our hatred."

"But now, my dream is to save all the indigenous people, even if it costs me everything…"

"This is a ridiculous dream. William Henry Harrison's sharpening belt will certainly laugh at my stupidity. I also know that I am not capable of doing anything..."

Rainy Day looked at the rattlesnake in his hand. It was struggling angrily, and its fangs were emitting a poisonous edge.

He took a deep breath, and his voice choked up again. "Until I met Ma Shao, the man you hated and wanted to kill... His appearance made this stupid dream more real than ever, as if it was within reach."

"I have never been so close to this dream before, never!"

"When he miraculously created the Apache script before my eyes, as a shaman, I believed in the Great Spirit for the first time—the god I had worshipped for more than a decade."

"This is no longer a stupid dream. It is waiting for me in the near future. I must realize it with my own hands, or at least see it with my own eyes!"

He closed his eyes on a rainy day, and two lines of tears slid down. When he opened his eyes again, a look of determination flashed across his mind: "So, my great chief, even you can't stop me from moving closer to this dream!"

Before he finished speaking, he held the rattlesnake and moved towards the arm of the tent guard.

The struggling venomous snake immediately bit the arm of the person guarding the tent, and because of the rainy day, he was kept pressed on it and could not let go, injecting venom.

The severe pain made the tent guard open his eyes. In his blurred vision, he still saw the rattlesnake biting him, and the rainy day holding the snake...

The man guarding the tent suddenly realized.

The Arapaho predicted that he would be killed by a poisonous snake, but he thought that he would be safe if he found and repaired every hole in the tent.

It turned out that the poisonous snake did not get in through the hole in the tent. It turned out that his protection of this tent was meaningless...

This was the last consciousness of the man guarding the tent. Alcohol dilated his blood vessels, causing blood to flow faster throughout his body. A large dose of rattlesnake venom flowed through his bloodstream, quickly declaring his death.

The great chief guarded the tent and eventually died in his tent.

It will probably be available in a week or two at most. Please take good care of it, and share it with your friends... Maybe the subject matter is too unpopular, so the results are not ideal.
