Capítulo 21: Leaving Aspita (2/3)

On the beach, we could not leave until the waves calmed. The ocean was too frantic to host us and sent behemoth splashes that crushed the sand on the shore. Uninviting. Powerful in a frightening way. Nikolas had stated a storm must have passed several miles from here. These waves were the consequence.

I had thought to pass the time with Aestos, but Haris stole my arm and led me somewhere else.

Damien stopped us. "Where are you going?" He caught Haris' hand and looked between us.

Haris grinned youthfully at him. "To talk and collect things."

Damien's stiff countenance softened, touched by Haris' innocence. And he smiled. Briefly, but I had seen it before it left. I was learning he was not as merry when he was sober. Damien looked onto the stretch of beach and ruffled Haris' hair. "Stay where I can see you."

It was a delight to witness Damien looking out for this young man.
