"Shhhshhh Its gonna be okay Denki." Dad soothed gently, stroking his hair as his voice shook.
"Just like when we play, thats it, just a game." His mother was crying in the background.
Her body trembling from the sobbing as his father held her together.
"Hide in here, so you win.. okay... So you win." His father encouraged him with a strained smile.
'BANG'
Noises broke out from the other room. Crashing and smashing, sounds of violence like a heavy storm battering at the door.
"Now Denki!" He was shoved into the small, cramped panic room his parents had built after their Hero careers had finally had the some success.
They weren't famous but they had managed to carve out a humble living and take down a few locally known villains.
That had been when things had turned.
The door to the room thudded shut, as his parents slid the bookcase back infront of it.
A small slit in the woodbacking and an opening between loosely placed books allowing Denki to see out.
He pressed his face against the small door. It was made of a reinforced glass that could stop bullets and strength based quirls alike.
His parents had boasted about how it was the most expensive thing they had ever bought but would do it again to keep him safe.
They had never publicly stated their son on any records hoping he wouldn't ever be targeted by revenge driven psychos.
It was because of this, his juvanile mind managed to realise was why only he was hiding away in here.
As the glass started fogging up from his hot breath, he saw his parents stand uneasily to their feet.
Seconds passed like hours as they readied themselves for what came next. A blast of wood chipping as the door splintered apart.
They were on them immediately, crazed faces not even bothering to hide behind masks.
His dad's eyes lit up as electricity charged behind the iris'. Soon a blast of yellow plasma split through the first man. He didn't even have time to react as his body slid in two.
His Mum was only a split second behind as her body glowed lightly, sparkling in the dim light of early morning. Her legs pushed off with great speed as she streaked forwards.
Her fist caved in the next thugs head as blood splattered the doorway behind him. They used it as a chokepoint as the bodies of the fallen hampered the remaining villains.
Soon though they were overwhelmed as two more jumped through the opening. Dad tried to charge another blast, but they seemed prepared. One of them threw a knife at him, forcing him to dodge.
In that moment they teamed up to take mum down. She fought well, but against tow power based quirks even she struggled. Soon her body was littered with bruises, but the others weren't fairing much better.
Light flashed as one fell. His dad had recovered and fired of again. Just as the final one fell to a punch to the suplex from mum, a blinding flash of light forced seared at Denki's eyes.
"HAH!" Denki sprung out of bed. Sweat drppled down in his back in great rivulets. Great gasps of air flooded his lungs with body as his eyes bulged from his head.
Ragged breaths ripped through the silence as Denki struggled to gain control. 'A nightmare.' was all that managed to make its way out of his chatic mind.
'Another fucking nightmare.' he rested his head against the backboard as his mouth hung open, breathing coming back to normal.
His racing heart slowed as he forced his raging emotions back into order. Eyes closed in an attempt to calm his frayed nerves.
No matter how much time had passed, that same night still plagued him in his sleep. Looking over at the mass tugging at his sheets murmuring and frowning in concern, his deep fear riddled features smoothened.
A small smile danced across his lips as he gently stroked dark strands of hair from that face. Anxiety and terror giving way to care.
Lifting his tired body out of bed, he carefully relented control over the sheets as he wrapped them warmly around her form.
Glad that she hadn't awoken from his little episode, he traipsed his way over to the wardrobe grabbing some clothes before heading out for some fresh morning air.
He knew better than to wake her up, the ire of a sleep deprived woman had burnt that lesson into him deeply. Chuckling ruefully at the memories, he walked down the hallways.
It had become almost routine at this point. Nightmare wake up calls in the early hours of the morning. Denki had chosen to embrace it though.
No alarm clock had ever been as effective and no amount of desperate attempts had allowed him sleep afterward. Instead he would wake up to the crisp dewy air and golden glow.
The adrenilin coursing through him now perfect to fuel his early morning training. A light workout in the training halls gym, followed by practice against the wooden dummy.
'Thwack' sounds rang out as bome and flesh met hardened wood. The rungs would smash from time to time, creaking and bending before snapping from the strain.
Years of training and subtle enhancement had hardened Denki's pyshiology, the wood could only stand so much under his unrelenting force.
'huh'
Denki breathed out, his once taught and frayed mind now emptied. His muscles warmed under the strain as scuffs littered his arms and legs.
"Done working out your anger yet? Or do you need a real opponent.." the aged barritone of his grey guardian reached his ears as he swivelled round.
His gramps still managed to sneak up on him, old age and Denki's enhanced senses be damned. Maybe his rage fueled 'training' had more to do with it though.
"A spar could help." Denki relented under the stern gaze of the old man. He had always seemed to understand, never berating him for his possibly self-destructive way of processing.
"Hm" with a nod of his head, his gramps turned and stalked away to the mats. His rough exterior hiding the obvious care and concern that it held within.
Denki followed silently, no words needed to be spoken between them. It had always been like that. Words were a waste of time in matters like this.
No amount of posturing or beautiful flowery words could help the deep pain that wracked the both of them. The comfortable silence of two souls suffering together had always meant more to them.
They were simple men after all, Kaminaris, words were used for fun but real emotions were shared and felt through a silent understanding.
The tall, bulky fram of the grey haired elder had always been the unswayable pillar of support that Denki had needed. His Grampa had been there for him, when the times were at their hardest.
A small broken boy, crying rivers and whailing like a newborn baby. He may have been gruff and stoic, but he had been there.
They reached the mats, thick spongy layers that covered the ground. They were hard enough to not effect their footing yet spring enough to remove any real impact from a fall.
Denki could attest to that, with how many times over the years he'd fallen flat on his face. All from the harsh conclusion of old spars under the training of the man before him.
His muscles tensed as a small snarl pulled at his face. Eyes boring holes into the new target for his pent up emotions. A low humn emitted as electricity coursed through him.
Like a live wire ready to trip atany second, filled with deadly intent. A buzzing keen of electric potential incarnate.
The wrinkled face of his only living relative creased as a savage smile pulled at his own. A glint of understanding hidden behind eyes ready to pummel a much needed lesson into his young gradson.
"Get ready old man, cause today lightnings gonna strike you more than twice!" Denki growled out between gritted teeth. Cocky words that hid behind their playful words the fustration of years of inner turmoil.
"Kid, you better prepare for pain if you come at me with the same sloppy shit you were playing at over there." The words were cutting as he gestured to the dummy from before.
Denki exhaled, he knew that his Gramps was right. Anger only clouded his judgements. But he was already angry, no amount of warning would stop him now.
He'd wipe that irratating smile from his old arse face and ramn it were the sin don't shine.
His Grampa simply sighed, well truth be told he didn't mind 're-educating' Denki on the dangers of letting emotions get the better of you.
A smirk full of future pain... Potential lessons to come graced his face as he stared down Denki.
"Fine, if its the hard way you wanna learn, THEN SO BE IT!" He roared as his body lunged forwards with a speed belying his aged appearance.
