Sun Wukong, having surrendered to the Jade Emperor, ascended to the Heavenly Court and was appointed as Protector of the Horses, a minor position where he watched over the Heavenly Horses in the stables every day.
After a couple of days, Wukong, finding it quite boring, took one of the horses out for a gallop beside the Heavenly River, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Just then, a patrol unit arrived; the leader scolded, "Who is that Macaca wreaking havoc by the Heavenly River? Get lost at once, or we'll be forced to drive you away!"
Wukong had been considering leaving the Heavenly Court, and here was an opportunity handed to him on a silver platter. He retorted, "I am the Protector of the Horses at the Heavenly Stables; you should leave at once!"
"Protector of the Horses? What a grand title!" The leader couldn't help but burst into laughter, and the other Heavenly Soldiers joined him, wondering how they had stumbled upon such a bumpkin today.
