### Chapter 35: You Must Be Joking!

Kintaro stood silently in front of the Butterfly Estate, his sharp eyes scanning the ornate building as the cool breeze rustled the leaves around him. The serenity of the moment was interrupted when a young woman with a serious expression approached him from behind.

"What business do you have at the Butterfly Estate?" she asked, her voice laced with authority.

At first, Kintaro glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, but when he turned to face her fully, she noticed the brown Demon Slayer Corps uniform peeking out from beneath his purple cloak. Her blue eyes widened slightly in recognition, and she spoke again, her tone now more cautious.

"You're with the Demon Slayer Corps? Are you here for treatment or something? I'm sorry, but we only accept people whom Shinobu-sama has agreed to take care of."

Without a hint of seriousness, Kintaro asked her a seemingly unrelated question, "Have you ever been to the sea before?"

The girl raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Huh? What does that have to do with anything? No, I've never been to the sea… Wait, why am I even answering this?"

Kintaro remained calm, his gaze unwavering as it bore into her eyes, making her feel increasingly uneasy. After a brief pause, he continued, "I went to the sea when I was six years old. The moment I saw your eyes, I remembered that day. I felt like I was drowning in them, just like I did in that calm ocean."

Kanazaki wasn't the type to interpret this as a romantic advance. Instead, she scoffed, "How could you drown in my eyes? Is there something wrong with your brain?"

The awkwardness of the situation quickly turned comedic as neither of them knew what to say next, leaving the atmosphere thick with an almost absurd silence. Suddenly, the door to the Butterfly Estate swung open, and a small girl emerged, her eyes filled with concern as she looked at Kintaro. Then, she turned to Kanazaki and said, "Oi-san! You're late."

Kanazaki walked toward the door, holding several bags. "I had to wait in line, but I got everything we need to make the sweets," she said, stepping inside.

As Kanazaki passed through the doorway, she stopped and turned back. "What's the matter? Close the door and let's go inside."

The young girl pointed at Kintaro, her finger trembling slightly. "But what about him? He's wearing a Demon Slayer uniform."

Kanazaki glanced at Kintaro dismissively. "He doesn't look injured, not even a scratch, which means we're not obligated to take him in. Did you hear that, Purple Eyes? Go on to your next mission; you're perfectly healthy."

The other girl looked at Kanazaki and remarked, "That was a bit harsh."

Kanazaki kept walking, heading further into the estate. "Let's get inside; it's getting colder."

Just as she was about to step onto the wooden floor of the house, a stunning bird with black and blue plumage descended from the sky, landing gracefully on her head. The suddenness of it made Kanazaki freeze in place, her eyes widening in shock. As some of the bird's feathers floated gently to the ground, it spoke with a clear voice, "What an impolite way to treat one of the most talented Hashira."

The shock of the bird landing on her head was nothing compared to the revelation that Kintaro was a Hashira. Kanazaki's eyes darted toward Kintaro, now filled with seriousness. "Hashira? You must be joking; he's younger than me!"

Kintaro remained silent, but his stomach spoke for him, emitting a loud growl that broke the tense atmosphere. The girls, still reeling from the realization of their rudeness towards one of the Hashira, could only watch in stunned silence. The bird, undeterred, continued, "That's what makes him special. He's young and powerful. My master trained under the Mist Hashira and climbed the ranks of the Hashira in less than a month after wielding a sword. Remember this well, you impudent girl: the person before you is the one who will put an end to this demon menace. He is Kintaro Ozan, the Demon Slayer Executioner, the Electro Hashira!"

Kanazaki's grocery bags slipped from her hands, crashing to the ground as the weight of the bird's words sank in. The other girl covered her mouth with her hand, trying to process the shock of what she had just heard.

While they were still frozen in disbelief, Kintaro took a few quiet steps forward until he was close to Kanazaki, who felt a surge of nervousness as his face neared hers. However, his gaze wasn't fixed on her; it was on the bird perched on her head. "I knew that the Corps' crows could speak a few words, but you're speaking fluently. That's unusual."

At that moment, Kanazaki's heart began to race for two reasons. The first was the anxiety of realizing that Kintaro was a Hashira, something she hadn't expected. The second, and the main reason, was that his purple eyes looked extraordinarily beautiful up close, far more captivating than her own oceanic blue ones.

As her pulse quickened, the bird flapped its wings and slapped Kintaro with one of them. "Don't compare me to other crows! I'm a Steller's jay, or as some call me, a blue crow."

"That explains your beauty, but not your ability to speak fluently," Kintaro responded calmly.

Slap!

The bird struck Kintaro with its other wing and scolded, "That's because you don't introduce yourself properly! How can people know you're a Hashira if you don't tell them?"

As the bird berated Kintaro, their conversation was interrupted by a soft, melodious voice that drifted through the air, carrying warmth despite the cold weather.

"Ara ara, what's all this commotion in such chilly weather?"

Shinobu, the Butterfly Hashira, with her sweet fragrance and gentle presence, finally made her entrance into the story.
