Capítulo 3: Chapter 3 Getting used to the Ship

Finally, my ship's Devil Fruit ripened after all this waiting. I was really excited about this, so I plucked the fruit with an ocean-blue color and smooth surface that resembled a water balloon.

"Civilization here I come." I exclaimed while I carefully carried it over and climbed the ship.

Looking at the ship's disheveled state did make me wonder whether the trees I chopped down and gathered would be enough but even if it wasn't I could still gather more so there was no need to worry.

Shaking my head, I cleared my thoughts and focused on the task at hand.

Since the fruit was designed for inanimate objects, I didn't want to risk it by cutting it open with anything, so I simply crushed it with my bare hands and carefully avoided spilling any on my clothes.

As the juices dribbled down from the crushed remains in my hands and spilled on the deck of the ship nothing much happened for a while, so I started worrying about whether this worked or not.

Suddenly, the wooden floor under me started creaking and ropes started moving around and I couldn't help the growing smile on my face.

Hurriedly, I threw away the remains, as they would vanish by themselves anyway, while pulling out my hatchet and made a small cut on my finger and let my blood drip on the deck as well.

As soon as my blood hit the deck I felt a connection to the ship. It didn't have feelings nor was it alive but it was sentient and understood commands. If I told it to go forward, it would let down the sails and adjust the masts by manipulating the ropes. The helm would turn the ship in the direction I tell it to go.

Right now, I could feel the damage to the ship and what I needed to fix it. There wasn't much metal if any but we had wood for days and I hoped it would be enough to at least repair it to sailing condition.

Getting off the ship, I went to gather all my stuff from the temporary shelter. Thankfully I didn't need to climb up every time I carried over something as the ropes of the ship came to life as if they were snakes and picked up my stuff and loaded it up to the captain's cabin.

Then I gathered all the trees I chopped down and brought them closer to the ship and the ropes once again carried them onto the deck. Lastly, I brought over all the dried fish meat and regular fresh fruits. I also gathered some clean drinking water from a small lake on the island and put it in some intact barrels I found on the ship.

Climbing up to the ship again after all that tedious work, I saw some of the trees already halfway melding into the deck and closing up any cracks and holes. Walking down the stairs to the lower deck showed that some holes in the hull were already closing up.

Coming back up to observe the process of absorption a bit more, I noticed the metal rigging of the ropes that were all rusty before started cleaning up and taking on a more grey metallic hue.

Already this two-month wait was paying dividends. My curiosity sufficiently sated I walked over to my cabin 'The Captain's Cabin', which had a nice ring to it if I say so myself.

My belongings were all here like my harpoon, hatchet, sandbox, some stone and wood bowls, cups and cutlery. I also made an additional wooden box or more like a wooden plant pot that can grow my Devil Fruits while travelling.

I could only plant one Devil Fruit at a time, so I had to use my first one wisely and I'd say that this self-repairing and self-sailing ship was a good investment.

Since the ship was still repairing, I decided to sit down and think about an important question I'd been thinking about when I had the luxury for it during these last few weeks.

What Devil Fruit should I grow for myself?

I've always been partial to Logia types due to their physical invulnerability and their creation and manipulation of whatever element of nature it has access to.

God Enel called himself God for a reason. He might not have haki at the time of his defeat but imagine if he did have haki and awakened his Devil Fruit. He would've been downright monstrous.

Although I could use a Zoan type as well. I'm half tempted to just say fuck it and grow Marco's Bird Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix. The standard physical boost that all Zoan fruits provide would go a long way to ensure my survival.

Paramecia types might not have the same advantages that Logia or Zoan types have but they still bring some interesting and exotic powers to the table. If nothing else Whitebeard's Tremor Tremor Fruit would be a solid choice just from the sheer power it can generate.

Ahhh... Choices choices... Fuck I hate choice paralysis.

Well, I have time to ponder, so I might as well think this through.

I am not exactly sure which fruit I should pick since there are so many interesting choices. Although I can't guarantee I would pick it if you have suggestions I am willing to listen. Mind you I don't want a min-maxing, insta-winning OP 'I win button' fruit. What I want is to make things interesting and enjoyable so keep that in mind for any suggestions.
