The silence in the conference room was oppressive, punctuated only by the soft hum of the air conditioning. Finally, Xavier spoke, his voice low and even. "I wanted to retrieve my pen. No need for... enthusiasm."

The room collectively exhaled, their eyes widened, as they glanced at each other in surprise at how the scene had turned out. "Of course, sir. Apologies," Alessia said before going back to her seat.

After the meeting, she joined the entourage of officials. "Alessia Angneli, be at my office in five," he said before walking away, while others walked to their various offices, whispering a silent prayer for her.

Xavier sat behind his desk, holding his head. "What part of 'act like you saw nothing' don't you understand?"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Kane," she apologized sincerely. She had crossed a boundary this time.
