It was just another normal afternoon.
I, as always, was with Sir Rodrick training my martial prowess. I had been training in combat with a greatsword, sword and shield, double sword, shield and spear and even archery. Of course, at first it was difficult because I had never in my life before even held a sword in my hands. And training with a shield and sword plus having to always be in armor was quite challenging.
I did better at archery because I would sometimes go hunting with a bow and arrows in my last life.
But after Sir Rodrick started to make me go through brutal endurance training I began to gradually improve.
Of course, at first I was worse than a novice, but with time and with the brutal endurance training I started to show major signs of improvement, in both my endurance and skill.
Still not at the level of a novice.
"My lord, I believe that it's time for our training to end for today." Said sir Rodrick.
"Yes. I believe so too." I said clearly like always after having a hellish training under sir Rodrick supervision.
As we were leaving the training yard, a DragonKeeper came rushing towards us.
"MY LORD. MY LORD." He said while still rushing towards us.
After reaching us Rodrick asked him.
"Calm yourself, what is it that makes you come running towards us like that?"
After taking a few long breaths to call his racing heart, he then finally spoke.
"It's your dragon my lord. It finally hatched." He said still taking deep breaths to calm his racing heart.
This came as a surprise. We knew that my dragon egg was going to hatch very soon, we just weren't expecting it to be today.
For clarification, a few moons ago, my dragon egg started to show signs that the time for it to hatch was coming, as it was beginning to show signs of cracking. So the DragonKeepers had calculated a estimacion on how much time it was left for it to hatch.
What came to me as a surprise was because there were still a few moons for the egg to hatch and ever since the Targaryens had come to Westeros their DragonKeepers had never failed to calculate the right time for a dragon to hatch.
This also made him a little scared, because dragons born of premature hatching would all the time be born with a mutation or defection on their body. And I don't want my fathers efforts and sacrifice to get me an ancient dragon egg to go to waste.
"Take me to where he is now." I said in a concerned voice.
"Yes my lord."
After walking through DragonStones hallways and going down many staircases, we finally got to the dragon pits and then we made our way to where the dragon's eggs were located.
When we finally got to where the eggs were, we could see what could only be described as chaos.
There was fire everywhere, like poodles of fuel that had been lying and had been lit up causing a black fire with swirls of white. Panic Dragonkeepers trying to extinguish the fires that had engulfed other dragonkeepers only for them to also be engulfed in the terrible fire.
There were at least 8 dead DragonKeepers and many more injured.
"What is the meaning of this?" I asked the man that had brought us here.
"I-I don't know my lord, things weren't like this when I left." He was visibly scared and confused.
And that's when another dragonkeeper approaches us and his arm half burned.
"My lord, you shouldn't be here. It is too dangerous." He said
"What is happening? Why is there a fire?" I asked.
"It's your dragon, my lord. The moment it hatched it started to attack us without provocation."
He said while pointing to the fire and the dead and injured men.
"My lord, perhaps you should go back up the stairs while we try to control the situation." Rodrick said.
"No, I need to see my dragon to try and make him calm down." I said, and I turned to the dragonkeeper that had his arm burned.
"Where is he now?"
"He is over there my lord." He pointed to a dark location close to the hatching location where his egg used to be.
"Ok. Now I need everyone to leave us. It will be me and him alone with no one else, that includes you Rodrick."
"But my lord." He protested.
"No buts. Just do what I say, it's an order." I said firmly.
"... yes my lord." He said reluctantly
After a few minutes, the cries of the injured man died down, and it was just me and the sound of the fire raging on. And seeing that the fire wasn't going to die down, I decided to approach the general location where the baby dragon was last seen.
"Hello, I know that you are somewhere around here. I don't want to hurt or scare you. You can come out." I said in high Valyrian.
After a few seconds of silence I spoke again.
"I know that you must be scared and confused but, I'm here to help you and to take care of you." I said once again in high Valyrian.
This time there was a change. In the corner of the room a pair of glowing eyes emerger, like they were looking at my soul.
*Damn, That scary* I muttered to myself while extending my hand.
"You can come out, my little friend. No one is going to hurt you."
After much hesitation he finally came out of the shadows. And as I feared, he was definitely different from every other dragon in the world.
In this world, a dragon had 4 limbs. 2 legs and 2 arms that make up as wings. The Dragon in front of me has 6 limbs. 2 rear legs, 2 from legs that could be considered arms and 2 wings.
He looks like a western European dragon, with all black scales and black wings. He has 10 beginning to form horns, of which 8 are curved backwards and 2 of them are curved frontwards along the sides of his face.
But for now they are very small and cute.
His eyes are what make him so intrigil without counting his 2 legs and his 2 arms. He has black eyes with white reptilian irises, and in a way it looks like he can see through your soul.
As he walks with caution in my direction with his cute little legs, his eyes are observing my every move, so to calm him down I speak to him in high Valyrian.
"You don't need to worry my friend, we are both of dragon blood, almost kin."
This seemed to break the final straw as he literally flew to my arms, and when he landed he started to sniff me aggressively, almost like to make sure that he would remember every little smell of mine.
As I took a closer look at him the first image that came to my mind was, Ancalagon, the powerful dragon that has ever lived, from the Lord of the rings universe.
It was funny how the most powerful and feared dragon in Lord of the rings could be compared to this small baby dragon that was smaller than a chihuahua. But since they were similar in appearance, I decided to name him the same.
"Look at you, you're so cute and yet, also very scary. I'll give you the name of Ancalagon, my friend. I hope you can live up to being like this name's original owner." I said while grinning from ear to ear.
He seemed to like his new name as I could see that he was very energetic and I seemed to be correct as he began to fly in circles around me.
Like a happy puppy.
