Capítulo 74: Banquet
"The guests have almost arrived."
Under the dark evening sky, countless magical lights eventually illuminated the surroundings beyond the original site where the ceremony celebrating the union of the princess and Haldor was being held. Beyond the gates, there was a settlement where the attendants who came with the guests stayed, all of them eating and resting.
All these people would have to wait long enough until the ceremony was over.
"I hope they take care of the future of the Seven Kingdoms well, though I don't think they're ready." Haldor said as he looked at all the people gathered below.
Haldor and Viserys stepped out from the balcony and walked toward the stairs that led to the main hall. The giant chandelier hanging from the ceiling provided enough light to illuminate the entire area.
The two of them stood on a raised platform in the hall, waiting for all the guests to enter. Viserys, with his strong character and thunderous voice, said, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming to this place. Today, we are here to celebrate my daughter's engagement after we chose to avoid an unnecessary war. I must say that I am happy to have lived to this age and to be able to celebrate her engagement. But there is something more I want to say: Consort Haldor Mondragón, son of the Rhoynar and heir to their lands, will officially be my daughter's husband, so I hope for your blessings."
When everyone received this news, there was a cold silence, but due to their experience, the nobles began to applaud one after another.
Applause and cheers arose like at any formal banquet.
However, everyone knew that this banquet was more peculiar than they were accustomed to. At this ceremony, in addition to celebrating Rhaenyra's union with Haldor, they would learn what really happened that led to peace instead of war.
"As you all know from the invitation, there are only two very simple rules. Enjoy and drink, for tomorrow we will discuss more important and complex matters."
The nobles secretly referred to this ceremony as a line of information to digest.
Many influential people had gathered in this place, and each and every one of them was shocked to discover that the princess would marry a wildling. No one could have imagined the reason behind it, which is why they were nervous.
"I never imagined that my engagement would be tainted by a war that has yet to happen, but since none of you have dragons, it's better to gather everything in one place."
Haldor, who was beside her, smiled slightly and said, "We avoided killing each other in a war that would have led to our end; isn't that a sacrifice worth making?"
"Fortunately, that's the case. At least I serve some purpose in preventing many of those present from dying," Rhaenyra said, and in that moment of celebration, Rickon Stark approached to congratulate them.
"I didn't think this would happen, but I'm glad there won't be an unnecessary war in our lands," Rickon Stark said, congratulating them without speaking directly about it.
Haldor smiled slightly and said, "I told you we wouldn't start a war, and I'm at peace knowing my family wouldn't either. Only this way will we defeat the night."
