Capítulo 12: Cobra Kai

A few days later, Miguel approached me at school. I wasn't sure why he would seek me out, but I had my suspicions.

"Hey man, I wanted to thank you for your help at the mall," he said, his tone earnest.

I replied skeptically, "You're welcome. Do you need anything else?"

He impulsively continued, "Oh yeah, do you remember that blond man from the mall? He opened a karate dojo, Cobra Kai, and I'm the first member. I was curious if you wanted to join."

I shook my head. "Sorry, but I already have a karate teacher."

"Oh, okay. Once again, thank you for your help. Bye!" he said quickly, leaving before I could respond. I walked toward my next class, my mind racing. Cobra Kai is back; now it's getting really interesting.

That afternoon during training, we were doing push-ups. Sam and Daniel were going through the routine normally, while I was attempting to stabilize myself on a handstand. As I found my balance, I said, "Sensei, a new karate dojo opened up."

Sam chimed in, "Yes, I heard from Yasmin that the owner beat up Kyler and his friends."

Daniel paused, clearly intrigued. "I don't care about Kyler; he's just a bully. But a new dojo, huh? What's its name?"

"Cobra Kai," I replied, and Daniel froze. He stood up, a serious expression crossing his face. "That can't be."

"Do you want to check it out?" I asked.

"Yes, let's go. If it's who I think it is, this will be very dangerous."

"I call shotgun!" Sam exclaimed.

But Daniel countered, "No, you aren't coming. If it's who I think it is, I don't want you associating with those people."

"What about Jack?" she asked, a hint of defiance in her voice.

"Jack is a lot tougher, and he can protect himself. That's final."

"Yes, Sensei," Sam replied, a little disappointed.

"Alright, Jack, get ready. We're leaving in ten minutes," Daniel instructed. I nodded and headed off to prepare.

We climbed into Daniel's sleek black Audi S7 and drove off. After parking outside the mall, we headed inside. To my surprise, Daniel's old rival, Johnny Lawrence, greeted us at the entrance to the dojo.

I realized that thanks to my influence, Sam had never crashed into Johnny's Firebird, making this their first encounter in over 30 years.

"Hey, welcome to my dojo! How can I, " Johnny started, but then recognized Daniel. "Larusso."

"Johnny," Daniel replied, tension thickening the air as they faced off like old gunslingers.

I stepped in, trying to lighten the mood. "You're the guy who helped me protect Miguel."

Johnny turned to me, his expression softening. "Oh, you're that cool kid who helped me take out those bullies."

Daniel was taken aback. "What? Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't Sam say anything?"

"I didn't think it was important. Sam didn't say anything either because she loves me too much," I replied with a grin.

Daniel sighed, "Oh, that makes total sense. A thousand push-ups when we get back, and 500 for Sam for not telling me."

I groaned, and Daniel continued, "I don't want to start any trouble, but just don't create problems with my students."

"Oh, so you have a dojo too, huh?" Johnny said, crossing his arms.

"We're going to destroy you at the All Valley. My student beat up 20 armed men with one arm behind his back," Johnny boasted.

I smirked. "I saw Miguel getting beaten up by a duck, and it took his sandwich."

"That doesn't matter; he'll be able to beat you at the All Valley," Johnny insisted.

"Anything that helps you sleep at night," I shot back, feeling the tension rise.

Johnny's face turned red as he yelled, "Get out of my dojo!" He kicked us out, and we stumbled back into the hallway.

Daniel shook his head. "Get in the car; we'll talk when we get home."

"Yes, Sensei," I replied, and we got into the car, speeding away from the mall. As we left, I caught Johnny flipping us off in the rearview mirror.

"Ignore that scumbag," Daniel said, trying to keep his focus on the road.

I turned away, remaining silent. Daniel continued, "I only said those things because I was in front of him. I'm really proud of you."

I looked at him hopefully. "So I don't have to do push-ups?"

He chuckled, "No, you're not getting out of your punishment. You did get into a fight without knowing if one of them had a weapon, that's too reckless."

I groaned, but Daniel smiled, thinking to himself, He has really grown up, from getting into arguments for his pride to fighting to protect those who can't protect themselves. I'm really proud of him.

We continued driving in silence, the weight of our earlier encounter lingering in the air, but I felt a sense of determination building inside me. This was just the beginning.
