Capítulo 3: Chapter 3: The Crystal

Dipper's POV

"Uh... uh..." Mabel's brain was completely fried.

I think that's a normal reaction any girl would have if she discovered that the man of her dreams was actually a bunch of gnomes.

"Please, don't make those awful sounds anymore," a gnome whimpered, crawling towards me.

Judging by his appearance, he must be Jeff. Seems I whistled too loud; the poor guy was clearly traumatized.

"From now on, I'm your leader. If you don't obey..." I didn't finish my sentence, just showing my whistle.

"Yes, yes, of course, you're our king," he said quickly. The other gnomes also knelt before me after recovering from the whistle blast.

"So Mabel, how does it feel to have the king of your ex-boyfriends as a brother?" I said, laughing.

"Very funny, Dipper," she replied in an annoyed tone. Looks like she hadn't gotten over the situation yet.

"Look on the bright side, we won't be bored in Gravity Falls anymore," I said, smiling at her.

"Hey guys, you can go, but one of you needs to stay near the Mystery Shack," I said seriously.

Currently, I was at my weakest, so I preferred to have these little guys as temporary bodyguards.

"Understood, Your Majesty," Jeff declared quickly.

"Are you sure they need to hang around the Mystery Shack?" Mabel asked, clearly uncomfortable with the idea of one of her ex-boyfriends watching her house every day.

"Don't worry, Mabel. I've got the whistle, and just in case, I'll take other precautions," I said reassuringly, showing the journal.

"What's that old thing?" she said, looking at the journal, confused.

"This old thing is what kept you from giving your first kiss to a gnome, haha," I said, laughing at my little joke.

I really couldn't help teasing her about this; it was so satisfying.

It also seemed that my maturity had significantly decreased since I became Dipper, or was I already immature??

"Haha, very funny," she said, rolling her eyes, but I could see she was still intrigued by Ford's journal.

"Seriously though, these are notes from an unknown person explaining some things about Gravity Falls," I explained vaguely.

I wasn't about to tell her about all the mess in Gravity Falls. I was just going to give her the minimum information and use the journal as an excuse to explain some of my abnormal knowledge about the town.

Of course, when Ford came back, he'd understand that I'd lied many times, but by then, I'd already be too powerful for him.

The only problem with this plan was me. I really didn't want Mabel to drift away from me, but I knew it was inevitable.

After all, I wasn't really Dipper, and she wasn't my real sister, except biologically.

"Wow, Dipper, is there really all this stuff in Gravity Falls?" she said excitedly, flipping through some pages.

Looking at her like that, I really wondered if it was necessary to break her little heart in the future.

...

"Hey Wendy, just starting your shift?" I said, crossing paths with her in the morning.

"Hey Dipper, yeah, just got here. Cool outfit," she said, returning my greeting.

At first, I wanted to ask for her help to find journal number 3, but fate had already done its job in giving it to me.

"I'm going hiking, hence the outfit," I said, a half-truth.

"I see you're finally deciding to exercise, you sure need it, haha," she said, referring to my backache and breathlessness after Stan gave me several chores like chopping wood.

"Haha, very funny. If you see Soos, tell him thanks again for the whistle," I said, leaving the Mystery Shack.

I had to leave before Stan gave me more chores.

*Whistle sound*

"Aaah, stop, I'm here!" a gnome cried out, coming out of a bush.

"Can you lead me to this area?" I asked, pointing to a red-circled area on a map of the region.

The gnome simply nodded before walking ahead of me.

For now, my only defensive weapon was a lumberjack's axe I'd found in Uncle Stan's garage, but worst case, I'd call the gnomes with the whistle.

Individually, these creatures are weak, but together, they're an interesting force to possess.

"That's exactly it," I said, wiping my sweat.

I had finally arrived at the strange clearing that has the crystal capable of shrinking or enlarging everything; it's really a handy object.

"Don't move," I told the gnome before approaching to pick up a crystal and attach it to my flashlight.

"Alright, escort me back to the Mystery Shack," I told the gnome.

On the way back, I started a conversation with the unknown gnome out of boredom.

He informed me about certain details of their race, like the absence of females or their peculiar means of reproduction that reminded me of goblins.

This reminded me that in some cultures, magical dwarves, not necessarily gnomes, have a habit of kidnapping young village girls or children for various reasons.

It seems that the gnomes of Gravity Falls are a curious mix of French lutin and Redcaps from Scottish mythology.

"I've arrived, thanks Joseph, and say hi to your boss for me," I said as I left.

Although I had taken control of the gnomes in the area, I didn't need to treat them like crap.

Being feared and obeyed was enough for me.

...

"You lasted longer than I thought," Wendy declared upon my return.

"You ain't seen nothing yet," I said, shrugging.

"Haha, I see you've gotten confident," she said, smiling at me.

It seems she wasn't taking me seriously. To be fair, to her, I was just a kid.

Personally, this way of thinking annoyed me, but it was also an advantage since she wasn't suspicious of me and wouldn't take it seriously if someone told her one day that I was doing something crazy somewhere.

"Uh, Wendy, where's Uncle Stan?" I asked, looking around.

I could see customers, but there was no sign of Stan anywhere.

"He's holed up in his room. In my opinion, it's a hangover," Wendy explained, opening a magazine.

Indeed, I had seen him drinking beer cans in front of the TV.

"I see," I said, heading to Ford's old room, which was now mine.

There was no sign of Mabel; it seems yesterday's situation with the gnomes affected her mentally more than I thought, or she's just with Soos somewhere.

I started unpacking my stuff on the bed and opened my personal notes in Japanese. Yes, I knew Japanese because of Vegapunk.

I had also encrypted them in the manner of Doctor Marco from FMA. I knew how curious Mabel was, so I was taking precautions.

These notes contained an inventory of things similar in function to certain elements from the One Piece world that I needed to build certain objects specific to Vegapunk.

I had written this every evening when I had free time, and I needed to start working on it soon.

Of course, I didn't put everything in there. I don't know if a genius like McGucket could decrypt it, and the idiot might do it for a few dollars .

"You'll soon come into play," I muttered, holding the modified flashlight.

I didn't know when Stan would take me to the lake, but I wanted to be prepared if the real monster appeared, and if it was the fake one, then I just had to catch it.

Of course, Ford was a genius in this world, that was irrefutable, but McGucket was also a genius capable of creating a giant robot without much difficulty in a few days, or a mechanical monster just to attract his son's attention.

It was really a shame that his mind was damaged because of his fear of Bill and the end of the world.
