Capítulo 1: New Beginning

'Darkness'

He suddenly came to senses, and that was his first thought.

'Where am I?'

He tried to move his body only to realize that he couldn't move at all.

'Why can't I move my body?'

'Wait, am I alive? I clearly remember dying in a hospital of old age!'

He tried to move and open his eyes again. Yet, he still couldn't do anything and on second thought, he realized that he actually doesn't feel his body at all. He felt like there was nothing, except darkness that surrounded him and his thoughts.

'I guess I'm still dead. But what is this? Why do I feel like there is nothing, but I can still think? Am I a soul?'

The constant darkness everywhere was making the environment really creepy.

'At least I can still think. Maybe I'll find some way to come back to life. I must not succumb to darkness and hopelessness.'

Since he made up his mind, he started to think of any way to get out of this situation, but he found nothing.

He slowly started to think that everything he was doing is worthless, but then he found out that there is a small light that is coming to him.

'What is this? Is it bad or good for me to come closer to this light?'

'Whatever, if I can't do anything I should just wait and see how it will unfold.'

When he finally came close to the light.

He found that the light wasn't small but the small one was actually him and it just looked like small because he was too far away.

After some more time, the entire world of darkness changed to a world of light so bright that his eyes hurt.

He started hearing some strange noises and his head really hurt.

After the pain subsided and his eyes got used to the light, he could finally open his eyes, and survey his surroundings.

The scene in front of him seemed like he was riding on some horse carriage. His body continued to bounce up and down along with the carriage's movement, making him slightly want to vomit. After a while, he finally managed to normally sit down and all his pain slowly subsided.

After all pain completely subsided he surveyed his throughly surroundings once more.

He seemed to be sitting on a basic wooden floor made from planks. He slowly tried to get up and at that moment, he felt a sharp pain hit his head.

The pain arrived so suddenly that he immediately fainted and once more collapsed on the floor.

"Hey! Mortis! Wake up! Why the fuck are you lying here like a dead person?"

Mortis heard this sound, and couldn't help but open his eyes.

"Where Am I and who the fuck are you?" Mortis asked

"What are you talking about? Are you retarded? I'm Benjamin, your roommate and we're on the way to the center of the northern continent to test our magic aptitude and hopefully become full-fledged magus in some of the famous magus organizations or academies."

After a little while of thinking, he thought 'Is this actually a reincarnation?'

Mortis remembered very clearly that the last thing he had seen was a hospital from his bed.

It was impossible to walk out of the hospital like nothing and even get on some wooden carriage when he was already dying of old age and couldn't even normally walk.

Furthermore, on the planet he existed on, such a style of carriage and wooden planks were considered really ancient things.

After organizing his thoughts in his mind, he finally thought 'Wait, what did he say? Did he really say something about magus and aptitude? Am I actually in some world of magic?'

'If that is true... then that means I can try once more and maybe I will make it this time. After all, this is the world of magic.'

Once more he saw that the one who had woken him up was an average-sized, male youth.

He had thin eyebrows, large blue eyes, a straight nose, and sparkling blue hair. Although his face was somewhat manly and scary, his body was weak without any muscles, looking somewhat weird.

Seeing that Mortis had awoken, the boy laughed, "Haha...Mortis, you're finally awake. If you didn't, I really wouldn't know what to do. By the way, what happened to you, why were you lying here like a dead person?"

Mortis lowered his eyes and thought 'Why did I suddenly collapsed earlier?'. Almost immediately after he thought this, he found something weird and thought 'Huh... what is this? Why do I have some weird memoirs that aren't mine?'

'Is it possible that I reincarnated in a magic world with complete memoirs from my previous life and even obtained memoirs from this boy that I possessed in this world? Is something like this really possible or am I just in the afterlife and this is my dream or something?'

After a while when he reorganized his thoughts in his mind, he finally made a decision 'Whatever even if it is just some dream in the afterlife or something I don't care let's be for the first time positive and hope that this world is real because if it's real-world then I just got another chance to reach my goal... Immortality.

After Mortis reorganized his mind, he laughed and finally said to his roommate "Haha... I don't know, maybe I just fell asleep on the floor here, by the way, thanks for waking me up."

When Mortis looked at him during the talk between them he figured out this person's identity from his new memories. He was his roommate whom he met nearly two months ago when they both joined this carriage to depart from this barren part of the North Continent and try their luck to become magus in the famous North Capital where all magus of the North reside and study.

His name was Lethis Stygian.

All of the youths who were together with him heading towards the annual test of the magus aptitude held in the North Capital had been tested to have some talent in spellcasting and they were all intelligent because anyone who wants to become a magus needs to be as most quick-witted he can be to memorize all possible information they can and use them for their growth and themselves. This Lethis is a legitimate son of the king of the Blazing Kingdom, a neighboring kingdom to his own Nacht Kingdom.

'A king?' Mortis inwardly thought.

He flashed back to his current body's father, King of the Nacht Kingdom, Orcus Nacht, whose holdings were equal in size to a state in his previous life, with ten thousands soldiers under his command. In this world, noble ranking was inevitably tied to personal strength or to the strength of hidden entities that are secretly ruling many kingdoms from the shadows to make a profit for themselves thanks to the labor of weak people. Since his father was one of these weak people it was inevitable that he was just one of many puppet kings that exists in the world.

But even if he was king, most of the kingdom's property wasn't his, so Mortis couldn't help but wonder how his father managed to get and use so many resources on him to test his spell-casting talent and even send him to the test in the North Capital.

As Mortis pondered over the question, another sharp pain flashed through his head, causing another memory scene to appear in his mind.

It was an empty dark room, with surroundings full of dust that looked like a cellar. In front of him stood his father Orcus Nacht saying: "Mortis, this is our Nacht Family's treasure, a promise from a Magus. At that time, our great old ancestor had helped an injured Magus, who had in return gifted ancestor with this metal card, promising him that if one of his descendants had the gift to be a Magus, he could use this card and enter the annual aptitude test held in Nothern Capital for free. Now, I am giving this to you, in hopes that you can be the Pride of the Nacht Family, and become a famous magus..."

'The metal card! Where is it?'

Mortis's eyes narrowed, and his hands involuntarily went to the right pocket of his pants.

In the pocket, he could feel the metal card.

Heaving a sigh of relief in his heart, he thought 'Thankfully it wasn't snatched from me, because if it was... I don't know what would I do.

As a man originally from a modern world without magic, Mortis was extremely curious and interested in the mysteries of magic, even more, because he thought that with magic he had a better chance to finally complete his goal of Immortality.

Furthermore, he didn't want to be chased back home because he had lost such an important proof of entry.

Although I have taken over this body and accepted its memories, but I'm still very different from the original Mortis. To his family members who have spent years with him, they would easily be able to see the difference. If they mistake him as a person possessed by the devil he would be in danger.

However, if I can enter a magus academy or organization, I will probably not return home for at least several years. By that time, if there were any changes to my personality, it would be considered normal. Furthermore, for a Magus, it is normal to be strange and eccentric.

Just as he was in deep thought, a pair of hands suddenly assisted him to his feet.

"What are you thinking about?" Lethis asked.

"Nothing." Mortis quickly shook his head and said

With assistance from Lethis, Mortis finally stood up.

"Anyway let's go to the dinner, I'm hungry. We can talk on the way right?" Mortis said

"Alright, I'm already hungry too anyway. Let's go."
