With the island resort hotel nearing completion, recruiting and training employees naturally became Chen Jianhai's top priority.
The current hotel staff, after months of work and adjustment, were already familiar with the workflows and environment. Additionally, the daily 0.3% skill improvement buff provided by the system meant that any of them could quickly adapt to new surroundings.
However, not all of these employees could move to the island resort hotel; some had to stay while others would go.
The students at Nanjiang City Tourism Vocational University had not yet graduated, and the current third-year students still had six months before starting their internships. At this awkward juncture, recruiting new employees became necessary.
Seeing "Xie Zhulong" looking despondent, Qin Mengqiu frowned slightly. Since the morning, Chen Jianhai had been assigning different tasks to various employees, leading to mixed reactions.
"If An Bingfeng and Xing Feilong's insider news is accurate, and the hotel is still recruiting despite having enough staff, then the most likely scenario is that the boss is opening a new branch," Qin Mengqiu thought, piecing together the information. She then bit her lip and took advantage of the lunch break to approach Chen Jianhai.
"Boss, I have a request," she said.
Chen Jianhai, who was looking through travel materials for the island, was surprised to see Qin Mengqiu approach. "What's the matter?"
Qin Mengqiu said, "If the hotel opens a new branch, may I transfer to work there?"
Chen Jianhai was taken aback. "Are you unhappy working here?"
Qin Mengqiu nodded, then shook her head, saying, "I'm happy, but it's still not ideal." Her words were vague, but Chen Jianhai understood clearly. Office romances had their downsides. If they succeed, all is well. If they don't, it leads to awkwardness and gossip.
Now, Zhu Tingting was avoiding Qin Mengqiu to the extent that she wouldn't even use the first-floor restroom, opting for the poolside bar's facilities instead. Even Chen Jianhai found this exhausting to watch.
After a moment of hesitation, Chen Jianhai said, "Alright, I'll let you know in advance when a transfer is needed."
"Thank you, boss," Qin Mengqiu replied gratefully.
Reflecting on the aftermath of Qin Mengqiu and Zhu Tingting's situation, Chen Jianhai shuddered. Office romances were indeed frightening. He decided that his future partner should be someone outside the hotel.
…
In just a few days, "Xie Zhulong" gathered a few people to form the HR department and started coordinating with Lin Suyang to begin recruitment efforts.
In front of others, he was addressed as "Minister Xie."
"Oh come on... give me a break," Minister Xie complained to Lin Suyang in the office. "I didn't even like this major when I chose it, but my scores weren't high enough to pick anything else."
Lin Suyang rolled his eyes. "You didn't like it but still scored top of your class. Who else would the boss pick if not you?"
Minister Xie looked distressed. "It's not like I wanted to be top. How was I supposed to know everyone else in the major was so bad!"
Lin Suyang sighed. "If you keep talking nonsense, I'm leaving!"
Minister Xie's melancholy expression was like a gentle April rain, falling on the steel machinery and echoing the faint sorrow of a man's heart.
With a sigh, he said, "Let's get to work."
…
After the preliminary buzz from Nanjiang City Tourism Vocational University's promotional events and the high-end custom PPTs, the "Thought Storm - History of Nanjiang" campaign, and the public service ads on Nanjiang buses, the recruitment announcement quickly attracted a lot of attention.
Many hotel management students sent in their resumes, and soon, Minister Xie and his team were swamped with emails, nearly overwhelmed by the volume.
"Dammit!" A sudden curse broke the silence in the office. "What's wrong?" Minister Xie asked, puzzled. "Is the work driving you nuts?"
An employee replied, "There's this guy who submitted a resume claiming he's the 2020 Touching Person of Nanjiang."
"And when I checked," he continued, "the 2020 Touching Person of Nanjiang was awarded to all the citizens of Nanjiang!"
Hearing this, the HR staff burst out laughing.
With so many resumes, there was no end to the strange claims people made.
"What's so funny?" Minister Xie pretended to be stern. "Make sure to note this down carefully. At the end of the year, we can use this honor to ask the boss for a raise!"
…
While the HR department worked overtime, the adjacent publicity department was enjoying a much lighter workload. Since the recent influx of fans and students, the demand for PPT services had dropped to zero.
After completing the video shoot, the team finally relaxed. They could now laze around in the office, chat, play games, and occasionally take a break to stroll through the garden, pet the peacocks, or enjoy some good food and drink from the kitchen.
Department heads Lin Suyang and Zhao An, having some free time, decided to drop by.
As soon as they entered, they saw the HR team sifting through resumes, clicking away on their mice. Minister Xie was slumped in his chair, his eyes closed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"You busy?" Lin Suyang asked with a mischievous grin.
The HR team had been stuck behind their screens for days, a situation that the publicity team had experienced firsthand. Now, with new comrades sharing their plight, Lin Suyang couldn't help but feel a bit schadenfreude.
"Old Lin, you came to see me!" Minister Xie, lying on the sofa, quipped with a tremor in his voice, mimicking the demeanor of a weary veteran awaiting a visit from his superior.
"Old Xie, I'm here!" Lin Suyang responded, feigning concern as he sat on the sofa and grasped Minister Xie's trembling hand. "The team and I got you this anti-blue light glasses. Try them on!"
Hearing about an actual gift, Minister Xie perked up immediately, as did the other HR employees. Zhao An placed a bag on the table and dumped out a pile of yellow-tinted glasses.
"These look like the plastic VR lenses my nephew plays with," one employee remarked, picking up a pair.
"You're clueless!" Zhao An retorted, squinting disdainfully. "These are anti-blue light glasses, specially bought online to save your eyes. Give them a try!"
Skeptical, the employee put on the glasses and looked around, finally focusing on the computer screen. After a moment, his eyes lit up with joy.
"I can see! I can really see!" he exclaimed, mimicking a scene from a drama.
Lin Suyang and Zhao An stood there with dark expressions. The HR department, from the minister down, was full of drama queens.
"Old Xie, you all are wasted in HR," Lin Suyang said, clicking his tongue. "You should be in the arts department. Even the actors outside in the garden shooting dramas aren't as convincing as you lot!"
