Capítulo 156: 156. The Power Of Bonds

After Professor Sycamore received the call from Professor Oak, his first thought was whether Ash might be psychic.

However, Professor Oak clarified that Ash is not psychic, which left the question: how does Ash do it if he's not psychic? There was only one answer.

There exists a deep bond between Ash and Pikachu, one that surpasses psychic abilities, allowing Ash and Pikachu to communicate with each other in an extraordinary way.

Ash remained quiet. He knew he didn't possess psychic powers, but according to the storyline of the anime, he did have the power of aura. Yet, this power seemed to have functions beyond just the aura's abilities—it was something more.

"I'm still amazed by your description," Sycamore said. "Even with a Mega Evolution bond, it takes time and a strong connection to form such a deep relationship."

"I don't doubt the bond between you and Pikachu, but to connect with Pokémon so quickly, especially from your first encounter, and fight alongside them like this is truly remarkable."

Ash told Professor Sycamore about the time he was attacked by a Fearow as a child, which made Sycamore even more astonished.

"Is something wrong?" Ash asked, noticing his reaction.

"Hmm! Professor Oak mentioned that the stone needed for Pokémon to Mega Evolve is called a Mega Stone. For the Mega Stone to resonate with the Key Stone worn by the Trainer, there needs to be a strong bond between them."

"Both the Mega Stone and the Key Stone are incredibly rare and difficult to come by, but I think the rarest thing of all is the bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon."

"From my experience, each Trainer can only guide one Pokémon through Mega Evolution, and that bond is formed over a long period of time, built on a strong connection."

"But you, Ash, have formed such a bond with Pokémon you've just met, and this condition is really unique."

From what Sycamore knew, after Mega Evolution, Trainers and their Pokémon usually develop a level of understanding, but nothing close to the shared consciousness Ash and Pikachu exhibited.

Typically, when someone encounters a new Pokémon, there isn't an immediate bond, but Ash had been able to form one instantly. This state of connection was truly incredible.

"So, there's still no clear way to determine if this power is related to Mega Evolution?" Ash asked with a slight frown. Though the power was helpful, if even Professor Sycamore didn't have the answer, it might be hard to figure out.

"I can't say for sure," Sycamore replied. "And as of now, no Mega Stones have been found for Pikachu, so we can't verify it through testing."

"But your situation is very similar to what happens during Mega Evolution. After a Pokémon evolves, its strength increases significantly, and its unique moves undergo powerful changes. I believe you're onto something."

"Perhaps your power is even stronger than Mega Evolution."

In some ways, this bond Ash and Pikachu shared surpassed Mega Evolution, except that Pikachu's form hadn't changed.

The moves Pikachu has learned are different from the past, aligning with the changes seen during Mega Evolution. However, the ability to connect consciousness with a Pokémon is something that even Mega Evolution cannot achieve.

Professor Sycamore pondered, "It seems this power might surpass Mega Evolution."

"Actually, even here in the Kalos region, our understanding of Mega Evolution is still quite limited. It's too early to draw any final conclusions," Professor Sycamore said, clenching his fists as he looked at Ash. "Ash, I think your power hasn't reached its full potential yet."

Over the years, the role of the Key Stone and Mega Stones in Kalos had caught the attention of many malicious people. Despite Sycamore's repeated emphasis that these stones only serve as tools, with the true power coming from the bond between Trainer and Pokémon, people still sought to steal Mega Stones for their own purposes.

For some reason, Sycamore had a hunch that Ash might be the key to unlocking new insights.

"Since this power is based on your bond with Pokémon, let's call it the power of the bond! I'll research some ancient texts, and maybe we'll uncover more. If anything changes, don't hesitate to contact me."

"Understood!" Ash nodded, feeling reassured. At least now he had a direction to pursue.

"There are many special powers in this world, like the power of aura, and perhaps this is another one of those abilities," Sycamore continued.

"But what about Pikachu's new move?" Ash asked.

"Since your Pikachu has learned a unique technique, this marks the beginning of something new. You should know that Pokémon's unique moves were also discovered and named by Trainers over time," Sycamore explained. "Perhaps other Pokémon have abilities humans haven't recognized yet. Since you developed this move with Pikachu, it's up to you to name it! Professor Oak can help you register it officially."

Sycamore smiled as he spoke. When humans first encountered Pokémon, the creatures could instinctively use their moves, but the names of those moves were given by humans. Pokémon gradually adapted to those names, just like how pets respond to names given to them by their owners. Pokémon can't communicate in human language, so they can't tell us the names of their moves.

"It's like when humans discovered dinosaur fossils," Sycamore continued. "Dinosaurs couldn't speak or write, and there were no humans at the time to know their names, but now we call them things like Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurus Rex."

Ash thought this made sense, so he decided on a new name for Pikachu's move and asked Professor Oak to help register it.

"Thank you, Professor!" Ash said.

"You're welcome. If anything happens, feel free to contact me. And if possible, I'd love for you to visit Kalos so I can study your bond with Pikachu firsthand," Professor Sycamore replied with a warm smile, extending an invitation.
