Creating the Water Wheel - [01]

Walking through the forest, I searched for oak wood trees. My memory guided me, vaguely recalling having seen some around here before. Traversing the underbrush, jumping over large vines, and perching on the branches of some trees, I finally spotted a tree in the distance. It seemed to have plenty of wood and was the one I had seen earlier.

As I approached with my axe, something caught my attention before I began cutting. I frowned and raised my eyebrows. Half-hidden, there was a massive tree with a long and extensive oak trunk.

I stared at that tree, observing the wildlife around it. Nests of yellow and red birds hung from the branches, and the environment was truly fascinating. But my mission was clear: to extract wood to create a water wheel.

I approached without difficulty, as the forest was large and with few impediments. I placed my hand on the trunk, doing some mental calculations: height, width, the area was perfect and very large. I smiled and said, "This tree will be useful for many things, but why didn't I see it earlier?" I pondered for a few moments, clenching my fists. "Damn!"

Shaking my head, I turned back toward the city. If I had noticed this giant tree before, I would have built a steam-powered vehicle to help me transport the wood. This tree was too big to be cut down with just my axe, especially with my current body being too small.

As I walked back, I began to think: what kind of vehicle would be useful now? Going back and forth from the smithy to the forest every time I need a resource would be very inefficient. So, I continued thinking, and my brilliant mind designed a useful vehicle: the Steam Carriage CVM.

The CVM would be a small steam-powered vehicle designed to transport wood. Its design would be inspired by the shape of a horse, allowing it to move easily over rough terrain, forests, and rural areas.

No longer worried, I looked at the vines on the trees and started cutting them with a knife, as they would be useful as ropes. I needed wood, but this time it didn't have to be a specific water-resistant type. I approached the nearest tree and started chopping it with the axe in my hand.

"Chop~~"

"Chop~~"

"Chop~~"

"Chop~~"

"Pow~~" After several blows, I took a few steps back as the trunk began to creak.

"Crash~~" Slowly, it fell to the ground.

"POW~~" The impact was strong and raised a large cloud of dust. I turned my face and covered my nose with my hands, closing my eyes. Afterward, I waited for the dust to settle and said, "Okay, now I need a few more logs, and with the vines, it will be easy to transport them since this one isn't as big as the oak tree."

With a clear plan in mind, I continued to cut down a few smaller trees, tying them with the vines and preparing to take them back to the smithy. Each step was a combination of physical effort and meticulous planning, but the vision of the CVM and the functioning water wheel kept me motivated.

A few hours later.

I tied the logs evenly with the vines I had cut. With a final tug, I began dragging them back to the smithy. Initially, I thought it would be an arduous task, something only someone like Tang San could do. But soon I realized that the bodies of young people in this new world are stronger than usual.

Although it wasn't easy, I managed to drag the logs to the city's entrance. I stopped to catch my breath, sweaty and exhausted. I let go of the vine, took off my jacket to cool down a bit, and calmed myself. At the city's entrance, some people watched me while others whispered.

"Hey, isn't that the son of the former blacksmith?" someone asked.

"Yes," another replied. "I heard he started cleaning his late father's workshop. At first, I thought it was a lie, but now I see it's true. Besides, it looks like he was in the forest cutting wood."

I ignored the comments and continued to take the logs to the entrance of my workshop. I left them right at the entrance and sat on one of them, looking at the sky that was beginning to darken. The guards started lighting the street lamps.

I could see the windows of the houses being illuminated by candles, creating a cozy atmosphere. Before I could ignore everything and continue with my work in the workshop, I heard my mother's voice.

"Nicolas Tesla! It's already getting dark, it's not a time for children to be on the streets!"

I turned and saw my mother, Mia Lucy Tesla, carrying a candelabra with lit candles. "Mom! I need to finish building some things before going to sleep."

Mia clenched her fists, and a pulsing vein appeared on her forehead. "You are my son, and as long as you live under my roof, you must obey me. Come on, dinner is already ready."

I sighed, but before I could respond, my stomach growled. "Rooogg~~" I shook my head and thought, "Well, I'm hungry and don't need to worry about dying. According to the story, in the six years Tang San was in this city, there were no massacres or attacks by spirit beasts. I don't need to skip meals just to build. Tomorrow I will have plenty of time, and it will be another day."

"Okay, mom, I'm coming," I said as I began walking toward her.

My mother, Mia Lucy Tesla, looked at me with a displeased expression and said, "You're all sweaty and dirty; you need to take a bath!"

I rolled my eyes in disdain but responded, "Yes, mom, I know I need to take a bath!"

"Then come on, let's go!" Mia grabbed my hand and started dragging me toward our house. I just ignored her, thinking, "She isn't my real mother, after all, I'm not even from this world. When I have enough power, I will make her obey me as the alpha male I am."

As we walked, a villainous smile formed on my face. "Should I rape and impregnate this woman when I turn 13? So will my body be at the height of puberty?"

But for now, I needed to endure Mia's orders and pretend to be the obedient son. The path to power required patience and strategy, and I was prepared to play this game to the end.

We arrived at our house, and Mia released me at the bathroom door. "Go wash up before dinner," she ordered.

I entered the bathroom, still smiling to myself. "One day, all of this will be different," I thought as I pulled a rope that raised a bucket of water from a deep well. "One day, everyone will know the true power of Nicolas Tesla."
