Numb by the second, Kushina could swear she heard her bones cracking. Naruto looked at her with a smirk on his face. "Well then, if you want it," he said, slapping his fist into her arm over and over again. Kushina wanted to scream as loudly as possible, but she bit her tongue and quickly moved back, releasing her chakra chains. Her arms were getting numb and red at the same time, and she tried to pump chakra into them, but it was like the chakra suddenly disappeared when it reached the area.
Unknown to her, Naruto was holding back a lot. Yamato, watching, thought the kid was good—it seemed they had a prodigy on their hands. However, he had his concerns, remembering the mission. The kid was a possible threat to Konoha, and as a Shinobi, he had to keep an eye on him.
Kushina tried to bring her sword up, but her arms were already numb and limp by her side. She gritted her teeth, recognizing the danger of whatever technique Naruto was using. She looked towards Naruto, who had a smug look on his face, and saw the two bells in his hand, shocking both her and Yamato. It seemed he had managed to get them during his attacks.
Naruto looked at the bells, clinking them together as Yamato approached. "Well, it seems the test is over, Kushina-san. You underestimated him," Yamato said.
Kushina gritted her teeth at that. She didn't like the whispers from other Shinobis about how she hadn't gone on a mission for over 13 years and was no longer at the level of a Kage. She wanted to prove them wrong, to show she was still as powerful as the day she retired, but now it seemed people would talk even more. Yamato was also looking at her as if she were some relic, which she did not like at all. She glared at Naruto with as much hate as she could muster, but Naruto simply looked at her with a blank expression before turning to Yamato, which pissed her off even further.
Yamato looked at Naruto. "Well, I must say, kid, that was damn impressive. No one has ever been able to get a bell from a Jounin before. Then again, Kushina-san has been out of service for over 13 years, so it is to be expected."
Kushina gritted her teeth again, her Uzumaki vitality already healing her, but slowly. She glared at Yamato, but he ignored her. "Well, kid, what are you going to do? Who are you going to give the last bell to?"
Naruto looked at both of them. "To be honest, I'll be keeping both of the bells." Kushina and Yamato both had expressions of surprise. Kushina was about to rant about helping fellow villagers, but Naruto simply looked at her and then at Yamato.
"I have already figured out the meaning of this test," Naruto said. He took out one of the bells and threw it towards Sakura and Sai. "Even though you guys were pretty much useless in the whole test, you can say I'm generous, so you can each have one bell."
Yamato looked at Naruto with a critical eye. He had already been given the mission and couldn't fail the team. Naruto got the bells, and the condition was that if they got the bells, they passed, so they couldn't fail him now. Additionally, Sai was the adopted grandson of Danzo, which complicated things further.
Yamato looked at all of them. "Well, Naruto-san, you got the meaning of the test. Let me explain clearly: this test was all about teamwork, and you should have realized it from the beginning. But it seems Naruto didn't give you the time for that," he said, looking at Naruto, who had a nonchalant expression on his face. Yamato then went on to talk about the Will of Fire and things like that, which I do not want to cover at the moment, Yamato concluded. "So, tomorrow we are going to start the mission."
All of them simply nodded, while Naruto shrugged it off. Before Kushina could say anything or ask him anything, Naruto vanished from the area. Kushina gritted her teeth as she looked at her arm, which she could now channel more chakra into, although it had healed only a little bit. It seemed that it would need more time to heal completely.
She looked towards Yamato, who nodded and placed a hand on her shoulder. Both of them shunshined away to the Hokage's office, where Minato was talking to Jiraiya and Kakashi. Kakashi was praising Sasuke, talking about what a prodigy he was and how things were progressing.
When Yamato and Kushina arrived, Minato turned to them, ready to ask questions, but then he noticed the redness on Kushina's arms. He rushed towards her. "Kushina, are you all right? What happened?"...
