"Guys, it's almost nine o'clock. I'll head in and livestream so we can see which spots are worth checking out…"
The capital city, entrance of the Pokémon Experience Store.
The popular live streamer, PDD, was already jostling for space before he finished speaking: "Hey, don't push me from behind!"
Despite his hefty build, Sao was struggling to maintain his balance amidst the enthusiastic crowd. This only highlighted how eager the players in the queue were.
"The doors are open, brothers… Whoa!!" he exclaimed as the crowd surged forward.
Meanwhile, Mark, another prominent YouTuber, had arrived right on time at nine o'clock. However, he was soon engulfed by the fanatical crowd even before he could get his bearings.
Diana, known for her strategic positioning, had managed to rush into the experience store ahead of the crowd. "Wow! Friends, look at this!" she exclaimed as she began livestreaming the store's layout to her fans.
The store was a treasure trove of Pokémon merchandise, featuring a variety of items like figures, dolls, and other memorabilia. The centerpiece was an enormous Pikachu figure, which quickly became a popular photo spot for visitors. However, due to its high price, most people opted just to take pictures rather than purchase it.
"Is that it?" Diana asked, squeezing her way to the oversized Pikachu figure. She glanced at the price and, with a determined look, declared, "I'll take it!"
As the number one Pikachu trainer, Diana's purchase of the largest Pikachu figure in the store was both fitting and impressive.
"Diana is a true Pokémon master!"
"What a massive Pikachu! It's no wonder she's called the best Pikachu trainer!"
"Diana, check out the other areas! I see a bookshelf over there?"
"Yeah, let's see what else the store has to offer!"
Following her fans' suggestions, Diana explored other sections of the store. Besides the figures and dolls, the store offered trainer hats and physical versions of Pokémon Pokédex. In another area, several Game Boy Advance (GBA) consoles and game cartridges were available, allowing PC players who missed out on the initial releases to experience battling Mewtwo for free.
After wandering around with her new oversized Pikachu and trainer hat, Diana arrived at an area crowded with people. She noticed several bookshelves and deduced it might be a reading area.
"A reading area in a game experience store? What kind of books are here?" she wondered aloud.
Grabbing a copy from the looted shelves, she aimed her live camera at the book cover, revealing the title: "Pokémon Special Edition."
"Guys, it seems to be a comic… and it's based on the Pokémon game!" Diana's curiosity was piqued. "It looks like GC is expanding beyond games into comics!"
She opened the first chapter with great anticipation, and both she and her livestream viewers were shocked to see the title: "VS Mew!"
Mew, known as the most mysterious Pokémon in the game, and numbered as Pokémon 151, was the subject of the first chapter. The excitement was palpable as Diana flipped through the pages, ignoring the chat messages from her fans.
The comic introduced Mew briefly before shifting focus to the protagonist, Red, and his rival, Green, along with the villainous Team Rocket.
Initially, the story seemed ordinary, but Diana couldn't help but laugh when Red, the protagonist, challenged the Rock Gym. In the comic, Red captures a Pikachu in Viridian Forest before facing the Gym Leader. During the battle, when all of Red's Pokémon were unable to continue, he sent out his newly caught Pikachu. Astonishingly, Pikachu defeated the Gym Leader's Onix with an electric attack, defying type disadvantages.
"Where have I seen this before?" a viewer commented.
"Isn't this scene taken from Diana's streams?"
The livestream chat buzzed with recognition and amusement, and Diana couldn't help but laugh.
"Have you seen this? This comic is from the official experience store!" she said. "While you can't recreate this in the game, everyone knows who it's based on~"
In the actual game, Pikachu beating Onix with an electric attack is impossible due to type disadvantages. However, in reality, Diana had accomplished just that in her streams, earning her the admiration of her fans.
Intrigued, Diana continued reading. The second Gym, Cerulean Gym, hinted at a budding romance between Misty and Red, but Diana, self-proclaimed "emotional analyst," quickly dismissed it. "Red is a total straight arrow. No chance of a romance here."
The third Gym battle in the comic featured Lt. Surge, a Gym Leader and Team Rocket member. The intense battle captivated both Diana and her viewers. As Red's long-time partner, the Poliwag, was hit by a Thunderbolt and fell into the sea, the entire livestream sighed in sympathy.
But the plot took a dramatic turn. At the critical moment, Poliwag evolved into Poliwrath and, with a powerful move, turned the tide of the battle, defeating Elekid.
"Wow, this comic's plot is intense!" Diana exclaimed, as her fans echoed her sentiment in the chat.
The Pokémon Special Edition comic not only brought back fond memories but also provided a thrilling new way to experience the Pokémon universe, both for Diana and her enthusiastic viewers.
