Capítulo 5: Chapter 5: Pokémon Chef

"The day to receive our starter Pokémon is coming up soon. Are you planning to get one?" Ash asked curiously while munching on the breakfast crepe Heath had made for him.

"Hm? I don't plan on getting one because I already caught a Pokémon." Heath was cleaning the burnt crepe batter off the iron griddle with a spatula. When he heard Ash's question, he was momentarily taken aback but then smiled and shook his head.

Previously, receiving a starter Pokémon had seemed out of reach for Heath, but now that he had paid off his debts, caught a Farfetch'd, and acquired his special ability, his desire for a starter Pokémon had diminished significantly.

"Really? What kind of Pokémon is it? Can I see it?" Ash instantly got excited, looking at Heath with eager anticipation.

Heath smiled and took out his Poké Ball. Originally, Heath intended to release the Pokémon normally, but upon seeing Ash's eager expression, he suddenly had a bold idea.

"Let's go, Farfetch'd!" Heath shouted with dramatic flair and tossed the Poké Ball in what he thought was a cool manner.

Immediately after shouting, he regretted it. As a mentally mature adult, shouting such things felt incredibly embarrassing. Heath blushed, wondering how Ash managed to say it so naturally.

"Wow!" Ash clenched his fists, his eyes practically sparkling. He thought Heath's way of throwing the ball was so cool!

When the light from the Poké Ball faded, a Farfetch'd hugging its leek and snoring appeared before Heath and Ash.

Passersby were surprised to see a Farfetch'd in front of Heath. It was a rare Pokémon! But seeing Officer Jenny patrolling by Heath's stall reassured them.

Everyone knew how strictly Farfetch'd were protected in the Kanto region. Since this Farfetch'd was captured by a trainer, it meant it was registered with the League. Even the notorious Team Rocket would have to think twice before making a move.

Compared to the vast League, Team Rocket was just a small fry. If not for hiding in the shadows, they'd be wiped out in no time.

Moreover, for some reason, Team Rocket, which was rampant in Kanto, rarely appeared in Viridian City.

"That's awesome! You're amazing, Heath!" Ash looked at Heath with stars in his eyes. Heath stroked his chin, wondering if Ash's habits were influenced by him.

"Of course," Heath chuckled and placed a small silver object into Farfetch'd's mouth. Farfetch'd woke up with a crunch. Ash didn't see clearly but assumed it was some kind of treat.

Heath was pleased with Ash's reaction. As expected of the protagonist, serving Ash had earned him a Silver Crown. After using it, Farfetch'd's defense stats were maxed out.

Heath felt a bit conflicted. He thought attack and speed were more important, but it seemed Farfetch'd was destined to be a defensive tank.

"Leek! Leek!" Farfetch'd excitedly flapped its wings, looking much more energetic.

Ash circled Farfetch'd, trying to pet it. Farfetch'd, however, was very wary of strangers, gripping its leek tightly and watching Ash closely.

Heath knew Farfetch'd was in a defensive state. The leek it held was not just for eating but could also be used as a weapon.

"Do you want something to eat, Farfetch'd?" Heath quickly stopped Ash. Farfetch'd was his newly captured Pokémon, and he didn't want it to accidentally hurt Ash.

"Leek!" Farfetch'd nodded enthusiastically and stood beside Heath, wagging its tail like a happy puppy.

Heath found this amusing. Farfetch'd's behavior was almost like a Growlithe's.

Ash squatted beside Farfetch'd, curiously observing it. A Pokémon he'd only seen on the news fascinated him.

Heath continued making breakfast crepes. As he worked, he noticed something odd. He glanced back and saw Farfetch'd watching him intently, turning its leek as if it wanted to cook.

"Do you want to learn how to cook, Farfetch'd?" Heath asked, intrigued. Farfetch'd's actions seemed to suggest it wanted to make its own breakfast crepe. Though Heath doubted Farfetch'd's wings could handle a spatula, he asked anyway.

"Leek!" Farfetch'd nodded and eagerly walked over.

Heath smirked. Was Farfetch'd really planning to cook?

A Pokémon known for its delicious flavor showing interest in cooking? Heath found this a bit odd.

But it was just a breakfast crepe, so Heath didn't mind letting Farfetch'd try. He quickly stepped aside, allowing Farfetch'd to take over.

Just as Heath expected, Farfetch'd struggled to handle the spatula with its wings. However, it soon managed, and Heath calmly watched, giving instructions as Farfetch'd tried to make a breakfast crepe.

Seeing the iron griddle turn into something resembling a burnt disc, Heath fell into deep thought.

How did Farfetch'd manage to burn the crepe despite his guidance? Didn't Ash see it and laugh so hard his shoulders shook?

[Farfetch'd made a breakfast crepe, unlocking the long-term mission "Pokémon Chef"]

[Step one of Pokémon Chef: Train Farfetch'd to make a perfect breakfast crepe independently. Special reward awaits.]

Heath was stunned. A mission? And it was a long-term one? Training Farfetch'd to become a professional chef sounded daunting.

But the promise of a special reward was tempting. Heath had noticed his special ability's activation conditions were related to cooking and food. Serving customers often yielded rewards, and famous customers provided better rewards.

Ash and Giovanni had given Heath great rewards, while regular customers gave small candies.

Looking at the burnt crepe and Farfetch'd sneaking away, Heath realized this would be a challenging task.

"Sigh, I guess we'll just have to make do," Heath sighed. What else could he do? He felt helpless.
