The sun was already high when little Joe woke up. Feeling weak, he went to the bathroom, and after about 10 minutes, he came out more energized and ready to work. He ate something from the bag of treats Ylsean had left for him and went to meet Mr. Van Vil. He arranged a job that no one wanted to do for 20 bronze coins.
He had to clean the entire area of the carin chickens, taking their manure to the cliff beside the cave where his father had previously trained him. His strength wasn't enough to even pick up a full shovel of carin chicken manure, but he wasn't going to give up because of that.
At first, he could barely put half a shovel into the wooden wheelbarrow. Then, he could barely move the wheelbarrow with just six shovels full. From a distance, Van Vil watched his work and noticed that little Joe no longer had that immense strength or exaggerated vigor but seemed to be trying as hard as he could.
When he finished his task, it was already past 8 p.m. The moon was high, and he was dead tired. He didn't even manage to put away the wheelbarrow, dragging his steps toward the bathroom with his face and arms covered in carin chicken manure. He bathed for a long time, and when he got out of the bath, he didn't even have the strength to eat and fell into a deep sleep.
He woke up to Van Vil knocking on the door and demanding his presence in 15 minutes. He barely ate anything, put on any old clothes, and went off for another day of work.
"Status System!" he said, evoking the blue screen to check if anything had changed.

"If I worked so hard yesterday, almost breaking myself with all the strength I used, and I only earned this score? I think I'll die working before I get back to my former level," Joe complained as he entered the chicken coop.
"Wait a minute, there must be a reason I can't gain XP. I know! I'll research the subsystem. Microsubs Status!"

"Well, it's better than nothing."
Little Joe continued working steadily, stopping only to drink water, and now with more energy, he managed to load the wheelbarrow with almost ten full shovels. The distance from where he collected the manure to where he dumped it was over 400 meters. Given the small amount of material he carried in the wheelbarrow, it would take nearly two weeks to finish at that pace.
But he wasn't discouraged, not even when his feet started cramping, or when he slipped and fell face-first on the ground, or when he stubbed his toes on the wheelbarrow's support legs. He only stopped when Van Vil advised him to quit early and eat more, or he might get sick.
He accepted the advice and went inside as soon as the sun set, took a refreshing tub bath, and decided to check if there was any difference in his:

It was still far below what he expected, but little by little, he would get there.
It was already early morning when sleep left him, and worry started creeping into little Joe's mind. His body wanted to sleep, but his mind insisted on keeping him awake. He was exhausted from working with the carin chickens these past two days. His body was all bruised, but even so, he was satisfied with the result.
It was still fresh in his mind when he approached the farm owner and began negotiating with him. Initially, all he wanted was a job that would earn him a few coins for his survival. Sure, Ylsean's bag was still full of durable foods that would serve as his provisions for a while. But seeing how hard he was working, the food wouldn't last as long as he initially thought.
The experiences Ylsean had described in his journal would be invaluable to him, after all, he didn't know anyone who had more will to learn about living alone and working hard than he did.
Due to greater circumstances, he was alone, but he wasn't abandoned. His parents had gotten into some big trouble, and somehow, he believed it was his fault.
Obviously, he wanted his strength and martial ability back, but after thinking it over, he concluded that it would only bring more problems. After all, wasn't his father much stronger and more capable than he was? And even so, hadn't he been arrested by a few guards?
No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't find peace, and his mind couldn't find a solution.
But one thing he was absolutely certain of—he wasn't going to give up on his parents and would find a way to do so. If not by force, then by wealth, but he would fight with all his might and determination to make it happen.
Looking at his skinny arms and checking his shorts' pockets, he laughed at himself, which immediately brought some relief to his fatigued body. And although it was something common among people, even if his situation worsened, he would never deny himself a smile, and on this, he swore.
Now more motivated, he grabbed Ylsean's journal and slowly flipped through the pages until he reached the third page, where he started reading, and without realizing it, fell into a deep sleep."
